Bafang M560

I wont. :)) Is not that bad with noise. Many times when I reach other bikers in a terrain with pedalling assist they not noticing me. When reving it at full power with throttle, there is some noise, but acceptable.
You should hear my LMX 4kW, what is noise. :)

Go with M510RS then.

The only thing I want to see are plastics gears for M560 motor. Aftermarket, I don't care. It's strange they are not out for this motor. I would trade the higher power for more silence on the road. And I'm willing to replace if needed :)
Totally agree which is why I’m actually interested in the M510 RS. Lighter, quieter, and still plenty of power for me. I use barely half the power my M560 can provide.

Yes, it's hard fore me to compare because I can compare it only with Bosch CX gen. 4. So if M560 is on the same level or quieter I'm fine with that. I mean at around 60 - 80 rpm. Did you have a chance to compare it with this Bosch motor ?

M560 is on its way so will take some time until I build everything up but probably I will switch to M510RS once available if I won't be able to stand the noise on trails. But let's see.

Yeah, seems like a good tradeoff. I'm pretty fine with my current Bosch CX gen. 4 tbh but maybe I would take a little bit more Nm sometimes. I'm quite heavy like 135kg system weight but 90% I'm fine witch Bosch. What is bugging me most is that stupid 25kmh limit. And all those chips are meh. So Bafang could bring some relief here :)

Do you know when this M510RS will be out ? Are there any reviews and it's confirmed it has PEEK gears ? I'm still waiting for the frame and components so guess I will have a good month until all is here.

I've heard "late 2025" and somewhere in the first half of 2026 in other places. I would put my money on sometime next year, maybe late Q1. The PEEK gear I thought was confirmed somewhere, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, hope it’s truth, let’s see. Until then I will tey to get used to M560 noise :) If it will be very bad then there is aleays possibility to switch to different motor. This is good on bafang, with Bosch you are stuck with the motor because every new model is with different mount. And they do it intentionally 🤮

Anyone tried to setup a 560 as close to the settings of a 510 and compare the noise?

I have mine tuned down pretty low, especially on Eco. It’s still somewhat noisy but nothing offensive. Metal on metal is just always going to be louder than the plastic gear on the M510.

So when peek gear available swap them with metal and it will be the same noise I assume.

M510 has plastics gears ?? Btw, I was thinking to open the M560 motor and fill it completely with some thick non-conductive grease. Wouldn't this reduce the noise significantly ?

As far as I know one of the gears is plastic, yes. Plenty of people (Myself included) have regreased their M560s from the factory. Don’t know if it made much of a difference because I did mine right off the bat but it certainly doesn’t make it silent. Probably helps though.

I don't mean regrease it. I mean to fill the whole motor space with a grease :)
I did not regrease it and to me its ok. I like the sound :D
That's good. Maybe I will be fine with that but if it's louder than my bosch gen. 4 then.... :)

You will not be able to do that. Electronics would get greased.

And thats exactly parameter Assistance level % - sensitivity to pedalling or power multiplication.

If you set 50% you need to push 300W on pedals to get motor assistance 150W. And Max power is limiting power from top. So if you set 20% you get max 0.2 x 25A = 5A, so cca 250W max electrical. And thats cca 0.8 x 250W = 200W on the rear wheel from motor.

I'm happy to report that my problem with the assistance behavior was solved using the K1 Flash. After some experimenting I ended up raising the power limit to 100% on all PAS levels and setting assistance to 75, 120, 200, 300, 400%. This way I can smoothly modulate the motor power by pedaling easier or harder. I set the acceleration (ramp up time) to 500 ms.

I'm mostly using first two PAS levels, 3 and 4 are useful on extreme kickers, 5 is for goofing around. Done a 250 km flat paved ride and several short ones on mountain trails with these settings and I'm really satisfied with this motor. Still using the 48V19A firmware, I might try others later, I want to see if any of them reduces the noise.

I can really recommend the K1 Flash by @Dado to all M560 users, it's an excellent tool.

Finished the build of e82 with M560 and wihile the frame seems to be great this motor is loud as fu*k! I can’t believe that and I’m pretty sure I will have to replace it.

Please tell me there is something much more quiet or if it can be damped
somehow. I know guys were
talking about some newer version of this motor but if mine is new version which I suppose to have I can’t image what first version must have been.

This is beyond my tolerance and I feel
quite embarrassed on trails.

Heres the link of the motor noise.

Welcome to Bafang quality. Pretty incredible they even let them out of the factory sounding like that, right? Sounds pretty normal for an M560 to me I think.

Sounds just like mine. I'm going to open it up and regrease it, now I have received the proper tools, just need some spare time.

I don’t know to be honest. Some people are saying the new version is more quiet but to me it does not look like that and sound like 1st motor dado had. It’s really incedible. What is strange that it does not depend on power of the motor bit more on rpms. It can take 100W and be incredibly loud. This is night and day with bosch gen4.

Oh boy, and you have also the new version? Either they saved on grease or I don’t know what is this but it’s disgusting. On asphalt it is OMG.

Could you please tell me what tools are needed? Any special tools? What grease you wanna use?

Hi, Misenko
my M510 no loud sound even on support on 40kmh , ride with man on bosch g4 - I hear the same.
On some levels I can hear only inverter sound but not gear sound.
So you should buy 510 and ride more on you own power if you want more quiet ))

Yes, mine is a couple of months old. Not sure if fresh grease will help with the noise but it won't hurt for sure. I don't think there is a definitive proof for the source of the noise, some think it's mechanical because of the metal gears and tooth shapes, others say it is electrical because of the switching frequency of the controller. Maybe a combination of both.

Not sure which grease I'll use, I have some generic thick lithium machine grease, probably not ideal, any recommendations are welcome.

From what I read the only special tool needed other than torx drivers and a mallet is a lockring tool like this one:

Thanks for tip. Yeah, I’m used to bosch gen.4 and I’m pretty fine with power so I could live with M510 as well. I guess I will wait for some reviews of M560RS or 510RS. I think I will open the motor apart and try to evaluate what is causing such crazy noise.

Yup it’s a tool for removing lockring. I have that already so I should be fine.

I was also thinking about some lithium grease, it should be fine but if it helps who knows. But I think it’s not gears…

I found this video and it is exactly that noise! Look at that small fast spinning part generating this ugly noise which is then amplified by frame.

What is worse this noise is not constant but intensity is changing all the time
which add to annoyance.

You can buy a new controller but who knows if it helps and it cost same as motor, crazy price can’t get it.

That video is from @Dado on here actually.

I wish I had just done the M510 personally, it would have been powerful enough for me; I only run my M560 at like 50% power in the highest assist mode I use. I’ll either get an M510 RS or more likely just move on to a new bike by the time that thing is available.

Yeah, m510 peak is around 800W I think so this would be pretty sufficient. I found I ride mostly E and T modes where T is 500W max. Will try to buy spare m510 or wait for rs but there is very few information about them.

I don’t understand why Bafang is not doing something with this noise.

Btw do you know what motors have same design (mount) as m510/m560? I guess not all would fit.

Same mount also with M500 and M600. ;)
Thanks maybe I will look into them. Here a guy is testing m510rs but sadly not riding. Wonder where he got it from.

Btw is there really not a way how to dampen that damn part you’ve showed in the video lol, it’s incredibly noisy.

@Misenko @gsoros use Mobilith SHC 100 as grease.

That @Dado short/video shows the m560 sound perfectly. Not sure if there is a way to dampen the sound. Greasing does nothing or very little to the sound though.

Thanks. It’s really unbelievable how that part can be so noisy. What about other motors they don’t have that part or what’s the deal that m560 is that loud? I believe this is the loudest motor I’ve ever heard and I’ve just buy that one.

guys - can't find solid info on this - stock m560 runs on 14s battery without issues ?
