Trek rail rear shock upgrade ideas please

Likely need trunnion mounting to make it fit. Not sure which Rail models are compatible with trunnion though. Might be the carbon ones only?

This is the shock just resting on the bump stop and bump stop is about 18mm tall. The gap from shock to frame is about 6mm, so I think 57.5mm stoke will hit the frame too. Somebody need's to try it with the 57.5mm stroke shock to confirm this.

thanks for looking into this! What a bummer! An affordable could shock with hydraulic bottom out would have been nice!

I made a 5mm spacer to reduce the stroke to 57.5mm. This is me just sitting on the bike and the gap to frame is 3mm. I couldn't make the shock to touch the frame by bouncing on the seat but that's not a real world test.

Does anyone know what the dynamic oil pressures can reach in a coil shock, I know it sits at 200psi +/- static. I'm having thoughts of tinkering with the upper housing of a regular DVO jade. I don't like levers, I do like proper high and low speed compression damping. The amount of actual fluid transferred to the piggy back is minimal, maybe 10ml, but this is easily calculated. Its peak pressure that could be the deal breaker.

Waiting to see if the new Deluxe Coil Select is any good.. looks like it should fit with no issues. Comes in 230x57.5, 230x60, 230x62.5, 230x65.... Standard and trunnion mounts.

Could be a decent basic shock, the compression tune would need to be spot on as there's no adjustability. No doubt they'll come with a stock MM tune for aftermarket. If they come as OEM then people will look to upgrade making this possibly a very.good cheap shock for the tuners out there.

I have a 2021 9.8 XT and I’m going to send the suspension off for a service soon. I’ll probably get the Zeb bumped up to 170mm travel but I’ve heard folk on here also increase the travel in the rear. Would it be possible for my RS Super Deluxe shock to be changed from 230x57.5 to 230x60? My frame is an XL. Has anyone done this to their Rail with this shock?

Thanks for that. This is something I was wondering about as I look for a new shock for my Rail. Looks very close at 57.5mm stroke. Any idea if the air versions have smaller piggy backs or have them oriented differently to the coil? Im still between air and coil but leaning towards air as I like the versatility for my Rail as it is my do it all bike.

With that amount of clearance I may even be tempted to try it. My Rail is pretty beat up at this point. Im a RS fan and these new shocks look very good. I just upgraded to the 2023 ZEB Ultimate on the front would be nice to match it on the rear.

Anyone Else here with öhlins ttx1air?

Just installed it yesterday, but can't get to test it until new fork shows up.

Ttx1 fits easily but i'm wondering that my shock can says 250psi max and the manual says 300psi max.. Do i have some early iteration of the ttx1 or what gives?

Weird, Ohlins website says 300 Max psi, but if you zoon in on the product photo you can see on the cans warning label it says 250

Well, i sent a question to the local official öhlins dealer for them to ask the factory.

Nice thing to see that they actually support using oil as air spacer, so no need to disassemble the shock from the bike.

Got a reply from Öhlins that the max. pressure for ttx1air is 300psi. So i guess the sticker on the shock is old info they didn't bother updating

Hi guys,
Looking through this thread for inspiration as im looking to upgrade my shock (Trek Rail 7 2022 Large).
Anyone tried out the Marzocchi Air shock? Will it fit? Iv been in contact with by local Trek dealer, but they could not give me an answer... and Marzocchi themself has not contacted me back'

Beside,

Hello!

I'm looking EXT e-stroria shock my Rail 9 size L. Does that fit on the frame?

I went for the Ohlins TTX22M.2 230x60 and it works a treat.

Anyone has installed on a Rail 9.8Xt 2022 (750wh, like Rob's) Size M ? Any chance with any brand? Maybe without piggy back?

Mine is already very close to touch the water bottle, and I would be sorry not to be able to use it anymore
(sorry for bad photo quality)

EXT advised me that the one they do wasn’t compatible, but this was before the e-Storia if I remember. Maybe the original piggy back didn’t fit?
Yes original don't fit and e-stroria maybe but want to be sure before ordering.

Finally got correct mounting hardware, fits great on Med frame with Reb adjuster on rear at the bottom. Mine came with the LS spring too.
For those asking about the stroke printed on the Jade they are a standard 65mm but use the bottom spring perch to alter stroke by supplying diff thicknesses for application.
Looking forward to trying it out, yes I fitted to a dirty bike haha, had just got back from ride and parts turned up.....couldn't wait ?

Hi bro, I saw you use 500x2.5 spring, may I know what is your weight? and you always perform enduro trail or DH jumping?

After trying to make a Rockshox Super Deluxe coil work with no luck, I ended up going with a Fox X2 and am super happy. Super plush and a ton of adjustment. Fox 38 or 2:1 Charger up front next.

May I know do you investigate before? Is it can fit on fox38? Because the head tube bottom size is biggest then normal head tube...I worry can't get the head set match for fox38, I'm not sure..
