Santa Cruz Vala

Did anyone experince the bike to shut down completely with the new kiox 400 display? I have tried it 3 times now. Never experienced without the display. The lbs changed the display and upgraded everything. But it happend again. I can turn on the engine again without any troubles

Yes! I have the same issue, happened couple of times per ride. Pretty annoying because before 400c this never happened and i dont want to go back to old system controller because its scratching the paint.
Hopefully this is fixable and not common problem 🤞🏻

My lbs suggested I took out the display and put it in a charger because maybe the backup battery was drained.
I never tested it since I took the bike back to the shop because of the floating bearing in headset.

I appreciate the reviewer talking through their suspension setup. I have seen more and more of this “wide open damping” advocacy lately, which is interesting to me. Anyone here running their Vala like that?
Hi there, I have the x01 vala and initially I didn’t get on with it. I ditched the 160 fork and fitted a fox 38 factory x2 170mm which I already had with the geo in high, I have found this makes the bike slightly slacker, more stable at speed and gives me the support needed for the steep Devon/Somerset trails I ride.
Fork settings for me at 78kg are 94psi with two volume spacers. Hs comp 8 from closed, low speed comp 11 from closed, Hs rebound 5 from closed, LS rebound 6 from closed, (Recently serviced fork)

The rear has been tricky! I found it firm and difficult to use any travel. After investigation I found there was a 0.4 volume spacer factory fitted. I swapped this out for a 0.2 with has meant I use more travel but it’s still very difficult to bottom fully. 204psi and I run the LS comp open with rebound at 5 from closed. I then found the bike too glued to the ground so I took the shock to TF Tuned and had the high speed comp increased outside of fox’s recommended valving, this has made the bike have incredible rear traction but still has a lovely amount of pop to hop across obstacles or lift off a root to change lines. One thing to note is I don’t do large jumps so I can’t tell you what it’s like on that but I charge hard on chunky steep terrain. The bike rides very well with this setup and actually outshines my kenevo sl which I always thought was the dogs dangles and is always my benchmark.

Not sure if you’ve experienced it but my other gripe with the bike was the rear stepping out under hard braking into a turn. I have all but eliminated this with this suspension set up and changing the front brake to a larger rotor 220 front 200 rear. I run Magura MT 7’s. Balance is great and I’m very much liking riding this bike and according to Strava the times are not too shabby either lol.
I hope this helps and good luck finding your sweet spot!

Great feedback. If you're ultimately after traction how come you've retained the Fox Float shock instead of a coil shock?

Thanks, custom tune on the air shock cost £175 inc service. I thought I would try that first, coil would of been next but to be fair an air shock can ride very well when set up right

Hello ! Quelqu'un a t'il déjà monté les nouveaux bushing Bosch sur son Vala ?

Report back - Vala went to LBS and he replaced the bushings and bolts under warranty. Also greased the seal behind the right crank. No more knock or squeal.

Mine went back too and came back the exact same. Going to pay to have my local mechanic to fix!

Also had the same issue after 400c replacement. The error code I was seeing was 136000 in the Bosch app after it happened.

I phoned up Bosch support and they said the error is harmless and indicates some version mismatch - they said a shop should be able to clear the error. Dropped my bike off a few days ago - will see if it returns.

Got the same bike and i am completely in love for this bike!
The handling is so great that i dont really think that i´m on a emtb when descending my local trails.
Did you upgrade the shock yourself? DHX2? 205x60? Reason and review if you can.
Thanks

Yeah 205x60. I enjoy coil on all my rigs. Pairs well for what I ride in the Pacific NW. Lots of steep rooty tech where traction is preferred.

Has anyone swapped in a ChrisKing Dropset 3 headset? I had an extra from another build and went to install but the upper and lower bearings appear to be to thick. The XX specs the same head set so I'm curious if I'm missing a detail.
Dropset 3 is correct. I have one on 3 different SC bikes. Are you sure that's what you have?

JFYI after bringing it to a shop to clear this problem with the 400c…I’ve done about 5 or so rides. No issues with computer shutting down.

Yeah, I was over thinking it after a long day. As soon as I preloaded the bearings with the stem on everything was fine.

Ordered a Vala X0 AXS RSV on Thursday two weeks ago. My LBS received the box from SC yesterday, completed the build with all my personal setup wishes on the same day and I picked it up and payed for it yesterday afternoon.
Attached my RRP fenders, did a first ride and must say - amazing

What size are the RRP Fenders?

Front is the ProGuard Front Bolt On V2 mini
Rear is the ProGuard Rear Cable Tie mini

I had the same pairing on my Simplon Rapcon Pmax for the last 4.5 years and very happy with them. So ordered them once again for my new bike.

Curious if anyone has had issues with the locking coming loose together with the ethirteen helix race chainring, on the vala gen 5, not using the O ring, came loose after one ride even torqured to 35nm, then applied some rtv silicone, came loose after 2 rides , so this time 45nm and blue locktite.

Have had the same chainring on my other emtb gen 4 but has never come loose.

Changed a couple things already.

Only down side, dealer fitted the kiox 400c and the grey paint stripe under the old cover has damaged the paint, looks like it was fitted when the paint was wet...
New Bike, dealer has contacted SC, seenwhat they say, but seems to be widespread.
