Reign E+ 2022

After owning the Reign E+3 for a little over 2.5 years, putting a bunch of miles and a lot of upgrades on it, I was thinking about servicing the bearings. Neither can I find any information whichs bearings I need nor do they sell any packages containing stuff for a full rebuild. I'd be ok with knowing the measurements and type of bearing, so I could order some on my own. Is there any reliable site to get those info without having to deal with the giant support via email? I know, I could just measure myself, but if I start to disassemble the bike, I would love to just get it all over with.

Useful information for the people that were thinking that Giant were going to update the Reign E+ for 2025 as it will not be the case.

Giant will only offer the Reign E+2 for 2025 (which is the exact same model as the 2024 model).

They're clearing out 2024 Reign E+1 and E+3, just pulled the trigger on the E+1...can't wait to receive it next week, crazy build for the price!

New generation of Reign E+ should launch for 2026.

What makes you so sure about that could indeed be the case but the current state of the industry suggest that the major players may be making some big changes to stay in the game. I think things might change a bit before the launch of the 2026 or at least they may come out a little earlier then normal.

Honestly i would never recommend this bike now, was pretty good 2 years ago but:

geo (too low),
motor (needs broader power),
BS giant policies (lock motor and bend you over $$$$)
aesthetics are not there

So yeah sizeable upgrade required.

I'll add:
shock mounting system
Creaky headset with dumb "standard" impossible to resell Zeb version
Motor efficiency

The main reason I wouldn't recommend it now (other than low BB which is a no go for me), is that all other manufacturers have discounted their bikes below the giant prices, but Giant don't seem to have much deals going. My LBS has had the same multiple trance's and a reign on the shop floor for well over a year and nothing is shifting.

Confirmed via a Giant Store, they're now listing the complete 2025 line up online.

The bike is not perfect, but the performance level remains very competitive for what it is. You don't always need the latest and greatest, plenty of fun left to be had on this bike.

In fact not that much changed in the industry in the last 2 years with no geo revolution, new motors or a new eMTB that is clearly standing out from the others.

Things will however change very soon with the new Bosch system & newer motors from DJI/ZF, let's hope Yamaha are cooking something very good to remain competitive.

In Canada Giant are doing 20%+ on Reign E+ bikes.

As a quick comparison you can get the Reign E+1 with factory suspensions and full XT LinkGlide for cheaper than a Turbo Levo Alloy Comp with very entry level components like Code Rs and a Fox 38 Rythm...

Frankly I’d rather keep my Reign E+2 (2022) one more year than see a half baked new Reign E+ come out… Giant will undoubdetly refine their geometry & e-system components to stay as a top tier brand,
Yamaha will most likely increase power to compete with newer dji & Bosch. I have 4,300km on my bike without fail, I maintain it well and it rides like day one… 👍

I think the current Reign is remarkably well thought out. Agree on creaky headset, and the BB and stack are little low. I'm also 195cm so would really like another 20mm on reach on the XL, or a new XXL size. Add another degree to the seat tube angle at the same time.

But: with 800wh battery I'm about the same as Bosch guys on 750,
power is more than good enough,
handling is really very good indeed,
maestro suspension excellent (way better than 4 bar, doesn't have that 'wallow'),
chain stays are a reasonable length,
head angle spot on,
seat tube is a 'real' angle (not kinked) and clear right to the top of the motor mount so you fit long droppers (I'm on 240 with plenty to spare),
cable routing is pretty easy,
it's already UDH so mech hangers easy to replace (and I like the 'rotate on impact' feature - saved a few mechs that), bearings are well thought out and easy to replace,
battery tech is pretty mature and mounts easily and reliably,
charger is fast compared to what you get with other bikes

I've had very good support from my Giant dealer for 2 motor issues and a blown Fox X2 over 2 years. Yes, I am concerned about what happens after December when electrics warranty runs out, but fingers crossed!

Would I still recommend it now? Yes. But at a reduced price.

EDIT - I must admit I am also very interested to see what Giant does next with the Reign and full power Trance.

So of course 1.8 to 1.5 crown races exist but are there 1.8 to 1 1/8 reducers? Just in the off chance I ever wanted to fit a dual crown to one of these. Whether or not that is advisable is another story...

Ok so after more research it looks like what I would actually need is a zs66 lower headset cup in 1.5 inch and then a 1.5 to 1 1/8 inch crown race if I was to stock a straight steerer dual brown on to a Reign.

It can be done:

I have switched from Reign E+, to Levo Sworks.
Giant motor power at low cadense is better, S-works was same price as heavily discounted Rein E+1 2024, I needed one size smaller,, Giant did not want to sell frame only.
But for racing Yamaha needs to do some updates. else I would have chosen the Reign again.
Levo Range is 20-25% less Levo 700Wh vs. Giant 800Wh, Turbo all day.

Edit :
S-works frame set 4.600€
Reign e+1 5.600€

That's some crazy pricing in your country!

In Canada the Turbo Levo S-Works is more than double the price of a Reign E+1.

Levo would need to be 60-65% off to match price, not happening.

Yes, my toughts exactly, Canadian S-Works Turbo Levo is now priced at $15,000 down from $18,999 !
I doubt very much that whoever can afford it is that same person who really needs it …? 🤔

I just picked up my 2024 Reign E+1 from my Giant store, paint is so nice in person, it's a mix of blue, purple and sometimes it's looking grey/green in the sun...crazy!

Staff at the shop were loving it so much that 2 of them ordered one for themselves.

Only modification for now is a 2025 Fox Transfer Factory 210mm dropper as I found one for cheap, but the bar/stem combo is way too low so I will most likely swap that for a 40mm stem & 35-40mm rise bar.

I'm not used to Fox suspensions and they feel very weird at first with the tuning process being harder than Rockshox.

New Giant TRA wheels are looking pretty solid, hub sound is very nice...much louder than previous Giant MTB hubs.

Some more pics, can't get over how great the paint looks!

XT LinkGlide 11 speed drivetrain is quite surprising, that thing is almost as smooth as T-Type but mechanical, sad that Shimano struggled to get LinkGlide stuff out on the market until now and XT LinkGlide is still VERY rare. The only negative aspect of that system is that the shifter feel is very cheap.

To be more accurate :
S-works framekit I bought 4.500€.
Reign e+1 2024 was discounted 30% 5.600€
[S-works om sale (complete) 8.000€]

I had most parts for complete build using the frame set, (using Giant E TRX wheels from my Old Reign)
So total cost would be c.a. the same. …for me ;)

After the latest Updates of SG & RC Go the LEDs are flashing three times up and down everytime the Bike is turned on. No impact on function and performance. Looks like a Test Series?

just update and mine does the same led lights blink up and down 3 times then turns on normally. I ran diagnostic and everything is ok. Also did not lose my mileage or settings.

I did an SG and RC GO Update(Android) update a week ago, but don't have this led dance. Although my updates have different dates. The bike had a higher consumption at first 40Wh/100m altitude gain) but it settled back to 33Wh after one full charge cycle outside the bike.

There were 2 updates in a row last week.

One was really quick to upload and the second one was longer, last one is including the LED dance.

I'm pretty sure the LED dance is to eliminate the guessing when powering on the bike, now you just press the button once and the LEDs start dancing immediately showing the bike is powering on.

Giant is not making the update notes public right ?

No they are not unfortunately. Yes I had two updates, just like ur description, had to repeat one update though, so I don't know if it wasn't successfull as I have no more available updates to do and also no led dance. Hm interesting update with just a press for on/off. Recently I wrote to the app support email with some suggestions and ideas for the app, one thing I mentioned there was that an on/off button would be useful on the remote, let's say a loooong press of the mid button and I also said it's a bit dangerous on trail to look down the downtube for 3+ seconds to turn the bike on/off. Could be they took some ideas...

Does anyone still have charging issues even with the latest (flashing leds) firmware?
I’m still not getting 100% battery at once when charging on the bike. It stops around 80-95% and need to unplug and repeat the process. Then, even at 100% , charger keeps flashing green light.

Yes, I'm having the exact same issues. Seems zo happen more often with 625Wh Battery than with 750Wh or 800Wh.

What Battery Size do you have?

You need a bigger battery then 🤣
Heheh. If they had released a lighter battery casing that would be tempting. These are built like a tank for no reason! Anyway, I managed to charge the battery off the bike and finaly got that green light always on. Lets see if that resets anything.
I am quite pissed off with all these charging issues. The only thing left loving with this bike is the maestro.
