Reign E+ 2022

I have the exact same issue, charging to less than 100%, ever blinking green light, latest firmware. Reign E+2 2022, 625wh.
I also charged to 100% with battery removed from the bike but the problem came back once again charging on the bike. 🫤

After owning the Reign E+3 for a little over 2.5 years, putting a bunch of miles and a lot of upgrades on it, I was thinking about servicing the bearings. Neither can I find any information whichs bearings I need nor do they sell any packages containing stuff for a full rebuild. I'd be ok with knowing the measurements and type of bearing, so I could order some on my own. Is there any reliable site to get those info without having to deal with the giant support via email? I know, I could just measure myself, but if I start to disassemble the bike, I would love to just get it all over with.

I lucked out and found a seller on eBay selling all the bearings as a set awhile back. They are the Enduro Max bearings. I have them ready for when the time comes to replace them.

A little OT but with Yamaha exiting US emtb market and other manufacturers who used Yammie motors in their bikes moving to other motor providers for 2025 models do people expect Giant to follow suit with their next line of bikes?

Yamaha are only exiting the US market, but will continue to sell ebikes elsewhere. The market is too competitve to sell bikes like the Yamaha YDX-Moro series in a successful manner, this bike was a few generations behind on a geo & design perspective.

It's highly unlikely that Yamaha will stop selling motors to Giant & Haibike as both have relatively new models using various Yamaha motors.

The motor contract with Giant must be one of the largest in the industry as per the very high volume of ebikes they're moving.

Hi all

Does your chainring continue spinning when you stop pedalling? Mine keeps spinning some turns… not sure if it’s normal or not, and starting to think it’s getting more evident.

Thanks!

No, it does not. Well, it doesn’t normally, but when I’ve had issues with my freehub, that happens. Get you rear hub checked.

The motor keeps pushing for like a second after you stop peddling making the chainring/wheel continue spinning, this is normal behavior...it has nothing to do with the rear hub.

This is a great feature when going over ledges or roots.

This feature is not specific to Yamaha motors as Bosch & Shimano are doing the exact same thing.

Your motor has a lot more overrun than mine, are you on a 2022 or later giant reign? my experience is Nothing like as much overrun as Bosch, or as now programable (I think) with shimano. So not ‘the exact same thing’ as you describe. I don’t think we have the ability to adjust this in the app, do we? Would be good if possible!

I would not describe the giant syncdrive pro 2 overrun as ‘some turns’, hence the comment on the rear hub

Same for me, the handful of times my chainring has spun an extra turn it was something stuck between the cassette and spokes. A freehub issue could also cause this.

In my case, a spoke was broken and stuck in the cassette so that the free hub mechanism no longer worked.
In this situation, the chainring was spinning all the time.

Maybe a bad free hub could be the problem?

Can you try a different rear wheel?

BB
Yes!! 2022 models had their bb lower than advertised. Even in “high” setting my bb is 30mm lower than rear axle.
Then something must be wrong with your bike.
I have the E+1 2022, measured the BB drop at 18mm in the High setting. It's of by 3mm as by specs it should be 15mm but that's mostly due to suspension sag settings on my bike.
With 160mm cranks I had some minor strikes, but nothing major, went to 155mm and no issues since then, as said before a lot depends on pedaling technique...

If it could lose
I think the current Reign is remarkably well thought out. Agree on creaky headset, and the BB and stack are little low. I'm also 195cm so would really like another 20mm on reach on the XL, or a new XXL size. Add another degree to the seat tube angle at the same time.

But: with 800wh battery I'm about the same as Bosch guys on 750,
power is more than good enough,
handling is really very good indeed,
maestro suspension excellent (way better than 4 bar, doesn't have that 'wallow'),
chain stays are a reasonable length,
head angle spot on,
seat tube is a 'real' angle (not kinked) and clear right to the top of the motor mount so you fit long droppers (I'm on 240 with plenty to spare),
cable routing is pretty easy,
it's already UDH so mech hangers easy to replace (and I like the 'rotate on impact' feature - saved a few mechs that), bearings are well thought out and easy to replace,
battery tech is pretty mature and mounts easily and reliably,
charger is fast compared to what you get with other bikes

I've had very good support from my Giant dealer for 2 motor issues and a blown Fox X2 over 2 years. Yes, I am concerned about what happens after December when electrics warranty runs out, but fingers crossed!

Would I still recommend it now? Yes. But at a reduced price.

EDIT - I must admit I am also very interested to see what Giant does next with the Reign and full power Trance.

If it could lose 2kg min would be nice - My XL is over 25kg, heaver than a mates Kenevo with boxxers! Carbon frame please, more top end speed / refinement on motor so the cut out not so noticeable. Higher BB.

NO CARBON unless it a option that would be a mistake if that frame was only available in carbon.

I'm pretty sure we'll see alu & carbon options from Giant for 2026.

Lots of competitors are doing this strategy for their ebikes and it's working very well (Trek, Specialized).

2026 Giant models should be available OCT/NOV this year, so we're not that far away from seeing these new bikes along with the new Yamaha motors.

I think that would be a wise choice to offer both as one is not really better over the other they just have different characteristics.

Build is complete for summer 2025, very happy with the bike. Giant is on to some crazy colors lately and this Dragonfly is no exception, color shift is insane.

It's going to be my 4th season on a Reign E+ so I'm very familiar with the way it's riding.

I would say the Reign E+ is composed, plush and the geo is still amongst the best. Going fast on proper enduro trails is very fun, but you do need to maintain a certain amount of speed to make the weight dissapear. The manoeuvrability of the Reign E+ at speed is quite surprising.

The Yamaha motor is not best is class, but still packs some kind of punch. It's important to note that the motor is about to be outdated by a pretty large margin with all these newer units coming out, I wouldn't buy a Reign E+ today unless it's discounted 20-30%+.

Here's a recent take on the bike for those interested :

A lot of that probably applies to the Kenevo I just bought at 5k reduced from £6.5

I agree, all of the current gen +-85nm bikes are about to tank in value with all these manufacturers about to launch a new generation of bikes and motor at the same time.

The hit on resale is going to be pretty hard if you didn't buy a discounted bike in the first place.

Looks sick, i think a stem upgrade is sorely needed though.

I removed mine half way after accidentally pulling dropper post outer past seat tube junction. Was not easy. Just gotta squish wire in / around motor as best you can. I know there are some wires at the front that sit above / in front of motor that can cause fitting issues. Work gently and im sure youll get it
