commencal 2021

Commencal just replied and stated that I will need "to tighten the preload cap down to 2-3 nm and then tighten the two pinch bolts on the crank arm. You’ll want to tighten 1 bolt a half turn, and then switch to the other bolt and tighten a half turn. Keep alternating every half turn until you’ve reached 16 nm on each bolt."
This is the same response I got. Noteworthy the e*13 spec says 14 nm on the crank.

Hey, anyone happen to come across a serial number or frame number somewhere on the bike? Meta Power Essential here and failed to find one for insurance detail.
There are some stamped numbers in a couple of places I can find:
On the back of the motor mount and inside the chainstay

The adapter to charge the battery off the bike is not included, you need to buy it separate.

btw, when i received mine from DHL last week, the box had been opened and then re-sealed with about 100m of DHL packing tape! I think it might be due to a customs check.

Hi mates! Rear wheel spokes on my 2021 meta essential came completely loose from Commencal

Ps: 100kg rider on top of the bike

Thanks!

I don’t think there is a “spec” for spoke tension. Most important thing is to get them even and the wheel true. Park Tool has a wheel builder app on their website that can help you out if you have the proper tools.

Just got an email from Commencal related to the cranks. I have translated this so the English might not be the best :)

"You have just received your Meta Power and we appreciate your confidence! So that you can fully enjoy it, we would like to stress two points that we invite you to check:

Depending on the use, the E13 pedal may require a slightly higher tightening torque than that applied to the assembly. On the production line, they should be tightened to 12 N.m. However, we recommend a tightening torque of 16 N.m., so that you can use the pedal unit safely. Here below we send you some assembly instructions:

To ensure uniform tightening, please perform this operation in four steps:

1. Tighten the screw on the inner side of the frame to 12 N.m.
2. Tighten the screw on the outside of the frame to 12 N.m.
3. Tighten the screw on the inside of the frame again to 16 N.m.
4. Tighten the screw on the outside of the frame again to 16 N.m.

If you do not feel comfortable carrying out the recommended manipulations or do not have the necessary tools, there is no problem, you can go to any specialized shop of your choice and we will reimburse you for the labor costs incurred

In some cases the Shimano V 4.1.1 engine update will bring the system into safe mode, limiting torque to 25 N.m. If you are in this situation please contact us so that we can solve the problem. "

Great news imo :)

trying out this phone app for battery percentage, garage test works. also will do all the assist settings. haven't tested the top speed deregulation/premium app yet.
same dev also has ST ride app which looks cool, gives you fraction of ride spent in various modes etc. haven't tested yet.
both previewed here:

found a source for the EP8 off-bike battery charging adapter:

note for lithium battery longevity it's best not to charge or store in very cold or hot temps aka your garage!

here
note url says BTE60 which doesn't fit, but item pic & label is BTE80

ordered! ¥6,520 JPY = ~$62 USD with shipping

Got the same mail, but how am i supposed to tighten the inner screw at the chainring? My torque wrench cant fit in it doesnt work with an extend either! What kind of tool do you use? Tomorrow is maiden ride and i dont wanna fck up my ankle as @ShaneBean did it! looks painfull dude!
Damn just updated the DU

First ride today and was pleasantly surprised by everything. He is a little ride review, and the motor efficiency was amazing riding at normal bike speeds. My decoy with 540wh and e8000 would not have been able to do this full ride unless I REALLY conserved, and I still had 40% left on the Meta!

Did a similar ride today but this time with only ebikers, and rode in half eco and half trail. This time was at 10% battery at the end.

I regret not getting the signature/fox edition. My 38 on my pedal bike feels way better than this Zeb that came on my Meta.

Just torqued mine they were definitely not at 16. Getting the the inner screw is tough but I had enough extra goodies to make it work

Well this seems to be a rather critical issue that Commencal needs to address. I mean this is some serious sh*t that can (already has looks like) cause serious injury. And I need to go get me a torque wrench asap
Yesterday I talked with a seller from Commencal Andorra and I pointed him to these problems, he said that they already know about it and solve it, so we'll see :) ......

It's just 2-3nm for the retaining cap. Friend of mine checked the torque on the same bike I got. He said the cranks where only tightened to 6nm. It was like the same with my bike.

I suppose you all got this email. A little different than previously noted:

Good morning!

We hope you are enjoying your new Meta Power! Thanks so much for your choice in Commencal, we’re stoked to have you in the family!

Over the last week we have received customer feedback on the new 2021 Meta Powers - one issue has been brought to our attention.

We have seen several non-drive side (left side of the bike) E13 crank arms loosen or fall off.

The E13 crank’s pinch bolts may require greater torque than what was applied during the initial assembly. On the production line, they were tightened to between 12 and 14 N.m. However, we recommend a higher torque value of 16 N.m. Below is some info on what to do.

To ensure proper technique when tightening the cranks, please complete the following steps:

1.Tighten the screw closest to the frame to 14 N.m
2. Tighten the screw farther from the frame to 14 N.m
3. Tighten the screw on the inside again to 16 N.m
4. Tighten the screw on the outside again to 16 N.m

If you don't feel confident enough to complete this procedure, or if you don't have the necessary tools, no problem! You can go to the bike shop of your choice and we will cover the cost of labour.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Picked up the bike today from the LBS. This is for the moment the final spec :) Additionally, they told me that the cranks were 6nm tightened vs the 14/16 as recommended by Commencal's last email.

So far so good. Haven't ridden a trail yet, as in Portugal it has been raining allot lately and we have a strange partial lockdown situation. But I will go this week to ride it :)

Anyone found matching teal nail polish for Signature? Dropped the bike today and left with couple deep gouges :(

IMG-2096.JPG

where you get invisiframe?
From their own website. They don't have the 2021 kit so I bought the 2020 kit and had to modify to fit. Pain but worth it. The seat/chain stay sections all fit perfectly from the old kit but the rest needed modified. Took me best part of a day but glad it's done ??

See my previous posts on the color matching. Still looking for the perfect toe nail polish...
haven't used this but seems cool. I don't love the electroplate lagoon anyway..

or, embrace paint removal & scrape it all off..the polished ohlins version saves a few pounds :)

I figured... Sounds like air spring rebuild is next for me :| Downside of mail order bikes - can't take it back to the shop: "Here, fix it!"
Probably just the negative air spring a bit over pressurized. To fix it, let a bit of air out so you can cycle the fork through its travel, then cycle through travel several times. When the fork moves past the transfer port it will burp the negative spring.

Since some people have their bikes by now, how bad is the rattling noise from the motor while coasting and descending?
