Specialized Levo 4 Firmware Update: 850W, 111Nm, and a Free OTA Power Unlock

The first over-the-air update for the Specialized Levo 4 goes live today, 17th February 2026 . It bumps peak power to 850W on S-Works and 810W on standard models , smooths out the speed limiter transition, and refines overrun behaviour.
I have never seen a smoother trail. Honestly.
The action camera effect is real. They make everything look a lot more mellow than IRL. Hawes is a nice middle ground from Browns Ranch that’s genuinely mellow (but aesthetically beautiful); to Phoenix Mountain Preserve and South Mountain that has millions of loose rocks. Adding a quick clip from a demo ride on an Orbea Wild at PMP as an example. I assume people are somewhat familiar with SoMo.

Now that's better.

Our trails have a few rocks too. You can barely see my buddy in this pic.

So now the dust has settled on the update who would like to switch back to the previous firmware ? To me the bike is far less efficient battery wise, the bike grinds gears more when you change them, the walk mode is none existent, not sure if it's linked but my bike now looses power to the rear mech since the update I've now got to turn the bike off and back on again to make it work, the overrun is now rubbish to say the least, the only 2 things that are better is turbo and the bike no longer surges after hitting 15/16 mph

They’d have to take the update from my cold dead hands if Specialized wanted it back. It’s awesome! I see nothing like “far less” efficiency; actually I’m finding consumption to be nearly identical to pre-update.

The bike isn't any less efficient it just has 150w more power. It will obviously drain more battery when using that extra power. Those 150w extra don't come for free. If this is causing range issues then tune the power down 10-15% in the motor settings.

The new firmware is great..... To me the bike is just as efficient battery wise, and my bike never grinds gears when changing gears properly and the walk mode is as smooth as before. Not sure if everyone has the new battery nest, but once installed, my bike never looses power to the rear mech, and since the update the bike has been flawless... I've never had to turn the bike off and back on again because of a battery malfunction. The overrun is now far superior to say the least, the only things that are bugging is, the people reading about the update and bitching about it!

"new battery nest"??

Have now 4 good long rides with the update. Battery consumption is nearly the same. My usual 16 mile, 2100 ft, 1:20 loop in Turbo 100% of the time used to result in ~44% battery remaining. Now it's maybe 42%. I have no idea how they delivered 22% more power while mostly retaining identical battery consumption. Kudos to Specialized's engineering team.

I have similar thoughts about motor noise as @Ribinrobin. Seems like somehow the motor makes less noise under certain conditions. Even my action cam footage backs this up.

This fact is clearly established by the following footage from yesterday.

Think a lot of it is you’re getting up the climbs quicker, so yeah it’s drawing more power, but for less time.

I noticed a slight increase in battery usage however, I hadn’t retuned the power settings since the update. I had trail set to 60% power. 60% of 666 watts is 400 watts and 60% of 810 is 486 watts. That difference will burn a little more battery. I retuned trail to 50% so theoretically I should be back to where I was before the update. What I really like is the reconfiguration of the modes to move Auto before Eco. I usually go back and forth between Eco and Trail so it works better for me. I haven’t noticed any difference in motor noise while riding. So no, I’m not returning to the previous version.

I finally got the update installed. I had tried multiple times (at least 5) and it failed each time. I finally as a last resort reset the Mastermind controller to factory settings and it installed. Who knows? Bike was awesome as usual on my ride this morning.

I'm very happy with the new update. I now only use Dynamic Microtune, mostly in 0/100 mode, and increase the assist when I need it: phenomenal! To achieve perfection, I'd ask Specialized to fix two more things: the initial noise when you activate the walk mode (the noise is also present when you start pedaling, so pay attention) and that annoying sensation you get when you shift gears or press on the pedals after a short stop and the bike jerks slightly forward due to the abrupt engagement of the motor. Then it would really be perfect!

I haven't even messed with Dynamic Microtune, will check it out.

You guys see this on the US website? I imagine there will be another update shortly.

At least my bike drains the battery faster when riding after the update therfore I hope an update is around the corner.

In what way does it drain more battery? Are you using the extra power or have you equalized the settings to what you had before the update? initial reports I saw suggested that the update slightly improved efficiency when power output was equalized.

I hasn't adjusted anything just been riding the same route as I have done earlier on G3 and now G4 and after the update the battery drains faster like before when it was fully charged it used ~15% after 10km now it's ~20% at the same route.

In that case it's just physics. More power means more battery consumption. You can always tune to motor back to pre update power levels if needed.

Yes that's what I thought as well.

How do you get into the 0/100 micro tune mode?

I installed the new update and also recently got a Garmin watch with ANT+ so I can share my heart rate with the bike and display my heart rate on the display. The watch paired with my Levo 4 pretty easily and then I configured a display to show the heart rate, calories, cadence.

With the watch, I just have to scroll to heartrate and click a side menu to share the heart rate before I start riding.

FWIW I typically only charge to 80% and run microtune at 20/20 on climbs and sometimes drop it to 0/0 on descents. I tend two get a couple 2-2.5 hour rides in between charges and haven't run it below 35%. ( I'd love a half sized battery that fits into the frame so I can keep my water bottle)

I've disabled the overrun, and have the least aggressive settings for everything after being dumped a couple times with the rear wheel breaking free when I didn't expect it.

I hope to try out the software update tomorrow, but I'm not sure that I'll notice anything considering how low I have it set.

Has anyone tried the setting that adjusts the assistance based on your heartrate?

First ride today with the new update, with the extender did 38 miles and 7200ft and finished with 13%

I got a bit tired towards the end and upped the power but it’s one of my first rides this year as the weather here has been crap.

The range seems better anyway, it’s way smoother all round and I’m really happy with it, big improvement and the bit of extra go does suit the bike.

Dynamic micro tune 0/100: engine power and assistance ratio do not appear, is it that difficult?

I have noticed a bug.
The Specialized app is getting my heart rate from my Garmin watch and everything says it's connected.

But all I see on the Bike is 90 bpm. It never changes. The watch shows my heart rate, the Specialized app has my heartrate according to the app, but the bike won't show it on the display.

It's worth mentioning that when I first synced up my watch to the eBike that it was showing my heart rate properly, so this is likely a bug that came with the firmware update.

Works fine on mine.

Maybe try to repair the sensor.

The sensor works fine because the Specialized app is getting all the data and I had the data showing on the eBike display before the firmware update.

I can go through the pairing process again and see if it makes any difference but everything else is working fine.
