TQ hpr50 firmware updates

Hi everybody,
I am about ready to update, I receive the dongle today, my account at TQ is OK, the app is install and works ... before I proceed, I have a last question, where I can not found any answer : do I have to remove , disconnect the Speedfun Ribelle module ? if not what can perhaps happened, (I prefere not move the motor, it was very difficult to remount when I install the module)
Already thanks for your advise
I didn’t wait for any reply, so I just disconnected the module and did the update without any issues.
That said, and this is why I was asking : putting the motor back in place isn’t exactly easy! (in my case : BMC Roadmachine)
So, let me put my question differently:
Has anyone done an update while keeping the Funspeed Ribelle or any other module to remove the 25 km/h limit connected ? if yes, what’s happened, do it create any issue or is the update done in good order like nothing isn't connected ?
thank you,

Hi all. I have 2023 Scott Solace eRide 20 and just updated it to the latest firmware via the Service Dongle/ Dealer Service Tool.

Curiously, before the update, when connecting via the phone app, the max watts available were 300W.

Now after the update, the max is only 255W.

Anyone else seen this?

no, in my case it stay at 300 w

Is it normal for New Zealand that the max speed is 45 km/h? Shouldn't this be 25 or 32?
In NZ there is no legal limit to the max speed for ebike assistance.

Before the update this field in the app was blank but from riding the bike I'd estimate cut off was about the same, 45-47kph.

I believe the only legal cap is power related, being no more than a constant 300W

I sent an email to TQ group yesterday, the return :
"No, if you are not a dealer, it is not possible to update per dongle.
But we are working on an over the air update. That will be an option about the end of the year. Then you can Update your bike per Phone.
But until that is available you will still have to go to your dealer."

It good news for the update on the phone but i can't use my Dongle...
F*** process no way for own private dongle service tool
This is good to know. TQ is behind the times, the customer owns the bike/motor [not TQ] and they should be able to perform the update if they choose to do so. Updated my wife’s Bosch SX via the phone app and that is the way it should be. My TQ motor is up to date but my battery is not, hopefully since it’s a TQ battery they allow this update as well.

Does the battery not get updated when the rest of the system gets updated?

I’m not sure. My Canyon Spectral Onfly came with the motor up to date and the battery one version behind. Everything works fine but I’ve noticed the TQ battery information is nothing but dashed lines. I suspect if the battery was at the current version I would receive all the data provided by the TQ app. Maybe someone knows more about this?

Fair to say, anyone with a dongle can do update, you just have to create an account saying you are a professional.

Tons of people have done it.

What you cannot do is to do extensive changes like speed/country as it require a Brand validation instead of Dealer. Been there done that with TQ.

That said yes, you need version aligned to have it working, not sure for the battery & motor (never had any misaligned, failed to see how) but had it with the range extender.

Yes, everything connected gets updated to latest version at time of update.

However, not all components get software updates released for them on the exact same schedule, so you can still wind up with a subset of components that are out of date.

Yes, early battery firmwares did not support a lot of app-side reporting. The display also has its own firmware and probably needs some minimum version to enable that. I expect a software update would fix this for you.

Yeah it’s a little strange but according to the TQ app my motor has the current version of software and my battery is one version behind. It has been working this way from the day I got the bike and I have about 1,100 miles on it so far. From what I read the latest software for the battery provides better charging strategies.

I have done all updates by myself with my personal purchased TQ dongle for motor ,display, battery and range extender all the time as soon as new update released by TQ.even I have replace the my old version 2 display with color version 04 display on my HPR 50 and updated it as well.

I believe TQ is pretty much done with software updates on the HPRTQ50 motor. For me at least it is not worth getting the dongle and software because everything works fine. In the future I suspect TQ is going to get away from this format of updating firmware because everyone else has already. After you buy the bike YOU own it including the motor/battery.

Moderator Translation :

In the last update, I didn’t take the extender to the shop, and the battery didn’t get updated. As a result, when I tried to charge it without the update, it gave an error—unless I charged it directly without connecting it to the bike. I took everything back to the shop, and they updated everything correctly, so it started working again when I charged the extender directly connected to the bike and motor. Someone mentioned that TQ had responded, saying they were working on allowing users of their motor to update it directly with their smartphone, like the rest of their competitors.

Hi All,

Just a reminder. Please write in English on the forum. This makes it easier for everyone to understand and contribute.

Many thanks.

A curious thing: If when you update at the Distributor you didn't have the Extender installed, the rest of the components are updated to the latest version. Obviously, the Extender does not get updated. When you get home after a route, having the Extender installed, and you want to charge the entire set by plugging it from the Extender into the power outlet, the system gives an error. This error occurs because TQ recognizes that there is an element (Extender) that has not been updated, so it does not allow charging. The solution is to remove the Extender, charge it individually from the power outlet, and then connect the bike to the outlet for charging. This process will need to be repeated until we update the Extender to the latest version.

Anyone have info on when TQ will implement wireless firmware updates? Last summer they said “by the end of the year’.

Does the battery not get updated when the rest of the system gets updated?
You would think so but in the TQ app it shows my motor has the latests but the battery is one version behind. Everything works fine (1,400+ miles) but I only get dashed lines for the battery info in the app. Maybe Canyon forgot to update the battery before assembling the bike who knows?

Hi all! New to this forum.
This thread is by far the best source of information I found about possible updates (and changes) of the TQ app. Thx @you all for that.
Hopefully the rumours (because all I could find on the internet are user reports of an email or a verbal exchange with TQ) come true.

Very interesting is also the post of @whitymon that states that eve with the dongle and a registration as a professional seller updates are indeed possible but change of country for example are behind another „paywall“. Can you maybe elaborate on that? Still looking for the best way to unlock the 25 km/h limit (based on Europe) - and compared to the solutions offered on the market the thought of updating a European bike with f.e. the us firmware is highly attractive. But obviously not easily feasible.

Best place for news on possible updates from TQ are their Facebook or instagram pages?

Asked TQ and received the following answer (translated with software) today:

Regarding over-the-air (OTA) updates, we are in the final testing phase. This feature is expected to be added to the TQ e-bike app within the next two to three months. We cannot yet provide an exact date, as we also plan to implement other features in the next update, which are currently in the testing phase.

As soon as the update is available, we will announce it on our website and via our newsletter.

A mediados del año pasado, me dijeron que estaría disponible a finales de 2025... Bueno, si por fin lo conseguimos, ¡genial!

3 month ? TQ is too late for everything ,even answering Emails for Advise, I have changed my old B&W display with new color one , but it is not connecting to the Trek app, I have another problem in my IGPSORT bike computer in TQ assist level showing.

I’ve got the dongle and just myself up as a store. No issues so far.
I have also just got a dongle. Was setting up as a store difficult vat etc? Asking because having software would be a great help as the new update will allow my SRAM blips to work.

Super easy. I’ve had it for about two years. Don’t recall it being difficult at all.
