Fantastic frosty day in The Upper Coquet Valley, Cheviots..so myself & The EMF had to head for them thar hills..
That's not to say it wasn't muddy in places but the trails in the main were firm & dry ..in fact we were congratulating ourselves as to how clean the bikes still looked when that all went tits up in the last half mile on a track which the local farmer had been using to get feed to his cattle with his tractor ..so many thanks for the shared use of your mobi washer Wayne ..
The pics ...
This farmhouse used to be used as a tea room and did the biggest and best bacon sarnies you could possibly hope for ..alas no more

..just behind it is the first stiff climb of the day
The view looking back half way up
Was it only a few weeks ago that this track had us stumped on the way to the Ridge being covered in deep snow ..
A good hour spent climbing to eventually get onto The Border Ridge ( Pennine Way )..a lot of which has had stone slabs laid due to erosion..( I blame those wooly hat walkers with there clodhopping feet..

)
On the left side of the fence is Scotland ..England on the right ..due to the beautiful clear weather it was a fantastic day for spotting haggis jumping around in the heather ..didn't manage to capture them
Highest point of the day at Windy Gyle ..
Above ..the only other person we saw all day in the hills doing a 15 mile loop..
It was all over way too soon ..the final drop to Barrowburn ..
As always great craic & company with The EMF ..and as the " Rose " in Alwinton was closed for the day ..the Newcastle Arms in Rothbury was a worthy substitute ..
