we still have so much metric and imperial here..
almost all brass fittings are both..
ie; 3/4 BSP - 22mm copper or 1/2" BSP - 15mm copper.
I can go buy stilsons in 10", 18", 24", 36" and 48"
or I can go buy some nice knipex pliers in 125, 180, 250, 300 and 400mm

you can walk into a plumbers merchants and ask for 1-1/2" waste pipe and fittings, they guy serving you was certainly born after we went metric but will know what you mean..
I could go on...
