So I’m always just slinging the old MTB or road bike in the back of the pick up.

with the eMTB coming I thought I wanted to put the bikes in the back but fixed. Didn’t fancy lugging it onto a roof rack, its too high.

can get racks across the back but again, it’s a fair old lift and they sit way up or they hang off the back.

the roller shutter clashes with the forks and wheelbase is too long to shut the tail gate. So needed to fix them higher on a fork block closer to the rear window.

lashed this together today to see if it would work with some left over timber from the current house renovation...

built the base so it’s wedged into position when tail is shut but easily slides in and out

Raking support just missing everything....

All I need to do is get the fork blocks and tweak it for the wheel bases of each bike and got a solid rack keeping the bikes low and secure within the truck bed.

Can’t see much of it either....

not to bad for some left over timber and an hour of my time....

with the tow bar mount can now take 4-5 bikes easily.

if it works out ok I’ll make a neater one and paint it black so it looks a bit more in keeping ?

great project! You've inspired me to make a custom rack. I went through tones of alike reviews, and even almost bought one from this list, but that I read your post and figured out that as I have some spare time, I can make it on my own too.
