Hi All
It's been a while since purchase and think I've done about 400 miles on it so just thought I'd give a bit of a review/ what's it like type thread.
I've come from a 2020 Jam 6.8 Bosch. First impression in almost all rides was that the Jam is an oil tanker of a bike, where the Haibike seems very nimble (almost twitchy) and agile, which is strange as they both weigh nigh on the same.
Motor delivery is also very different and takes a bit of getting use to. Bosch seems all power and gives a kick with a Jeremy Clarkson POWER shout, where as the Pinion is very linear and you don't realise anything is happening.... but then you are at the top of the hill. I did try and play around with the settings in the app but then went back to the factory as that seemed to give best variation between the modes - off/eco/flow/flex/fly - I spend most time in Flow and that seems to do most single track round where I am but decent oomph from flex and fly as well.
Noise - lots of YouTube reviews have said its noisy, in 1-4 very, 5-8 so so and 9-12 silent. there is a clank between 4 & 5 and 8&9 which is a tad scary first time under load but then like everything after a few rides you don't hear / feel them - it's just part of your bike.
Gears - just the BEST bit - sounds like the noise of an arrow on Robin Hood, so fast, so easy, so precise, just love the gears. I have mine set to go into 4th gear when you stop which is wonderful on gates and stoppages. Shifting gear without moving is also fantastic - don't realise how useful it is.
Brakes - I'm not that techy but they stop me. Forks and suspension - I'm not that techy but seems to be a smooth ride where I bike. Dropper - slight niggle here as you need to sort of sit going forward to drop it (on Jam was just straight up/down) but not sure if that is regular or not and a real minor thing. Mullet - don't notice it really unless that's what makes it feel real nimble and agile coming down hill.
I think all in all, as I am not techy and just want to ride, it's a great bike - the no gear faff is just so reassuring for me - everything just works. I think the pinion motor could do with a bit more Bosch (or guess now it's the avinox) type power and a bit more meaty but my legs have always given out before the motor!! It's definitely not lacking power for sure.
Battery - 800watts and seems to do 30-40 miles, although has an annoying battery saver when it charges to 80% and been caught out twice on long ride. The app. could do better or I need to read up more, I'd like to change screens but cant seem to 'set' a main screen, just goes back to the front screen and can another moan is that its all KM - those dashed Europeans. No miles or MPH.
Going back on to my old bike - no, just feels very agricultural with chain, cassette and gear change. Can it be better? Yes of course, put this drive train on a Bosch /DJI and that would be perfect. Am I glad I changed to this bike - Absolutely.
If any other riders out there that are more clued up on the app - setting screen, getting best out of the drive modes, setting up how to record / follow a route please let me know. THANKS.
