Haibike All Mnt 10 Pinion MGU

Yeah love the bike, was out in the slop yesterday, riding through deep puddle after deep puddle 🤣

On Monday I couldn't get up a very slimy clay hillside, rear wheel just spinning and then me slipping all over the place trying to walk up it.

I think I may have to consider a new dropper, perhaps a SRAM AXS.

Hi All
It's been a while since purchase and think I've done about 400 miles on it so just thought I'd give a bit of a review/ what's it like type thread.
I've come from a 2020 Jam 6.8 Bosch. First impression in almost all rides was that the Jam is an oil tanker of a bike, where the Haibike seems very nimble (almost twitchy) and agile, which is strange as they both weigh nigh on the same.
Motor delivery is also very different and takes a bit of getting use to. Bosch seems all power and gives a kick with a Jeremy Clarkson POWER shout, where as the Pinion is very linear and you don't realise anything is happening.... but then you are at the top of the hill. I did try and play around with the settings in the app but then went back to the factory as that seemed to give best variation between the modes - off/eco/flow/flex/fly - I spend most time in Flow and that seems to do most single track round where I am but decent oomph from flex and fly as well.
Noise - lots of YouTube reviews have said its noisy, in 1-4 very, 5-8 so so and 9-12 silent. there is a clank between 4 & 5 and 8&9 which is a tad scary first time under load but then like everything after a few rides you don't hear / feel them - it's just part of your bike.
Gears - just the BEST bit - sounds like the noise of an arrow on Robin Hood, so fast, so easy, so precise, just love the gears. I have mine set to go into 4th gear when you stop which is wonderful on gates and stoppages. Shifting gear without moving is also fantastic - don't realise how useful it is.
Brakes - I'm not that techy but they stop me. Forks and suspension - I'm not that techy but seems to be a smooth ride where I bike. Dropper - slight niggle here as you need to sort of sit going forward to drop it (on Jam was just straight up/down) but not sure if that is regular or not and a real minor thing. Mullet - don't notice it really unless that's what makes it feel real nimble and agile coming down hill.
I think all in all, as I am not techy and just want to ride, it's a great bike - the no gear faff is just so reassuring for me - everything just works. I think the pinion motor could do with a bit more Bosch (or guess now it's the avinox) type power and a bit more meaty but my legs have always given out before the motor!! It's definitely not lacking power for sure.
Battery - 800watts and seems to do 30-40 miles, although has an annoying battery saver when it charges to 80% and been caught out twice on long ride. The app. could do better or I need to read up more, I'd like to change screens but cant seem to 'set' a main screen, just goes back to the front screen and can another moan is that its all KM - those dashed Europeans. No miles or MPH.
Going back on to my old bike - no, just feels very agricultural with chain, cassette and gear change. Can it be better? Yes of course, put this drive train on a Bosch /DJI and that would be perfect. Am I glad I changed to this bike - Absolutely.
If any other riders out there that are more clued up on the app - setting screen, getting best out of the drive modes, setting up how to record / follow a route please let me know. THANKS.
Glad for your honesty on this.
I've been considering getting one for some time and the local shop has offered me a loan of one for a weekend to try .
Shall give him a bell in the week 😉

Let us know how you get on.

I forgot to mention, last week I had the belt come off, it was absolutely caked in ice and mud though, which got under the belt into the rear cog and likely pushed the belt off the teeth. The combo of low gear where the torque is much higher as going up a steeper hill with the crud all around it. Best bit was it it took no time to get back on.

Make sure the snubber is correctly set, I have had problems in the past. Made my own snubber with stainless steel bearings, never had any problems since

Be prepared to buy one then - bet you do. The speed of gear change in difficult situations.... bugger, I need 4th and quick as a flash you can press the button and you are there ready to pedal - still amazes me. There are always downsides but the benefits are immense. Just been out, crap everywhere, washed it down, 3 minutes, towel dried, 4 minutes - ready to ride again..... Wash'n'go.....

I've set it as per the shop's guidance which was to have the arm pointing down at 90 degrees to the belt. Making my own is likely out of my skillset 🤣

Hi guys, hope you are still on this thread. I have a 2022 Turbo Levo with lots of upgraded bits - just before Chrimbo sent my Brose motor off for the full upgrade but now it's back I have a hankering for a Pinion. I'm old now so don't crash downhill as fast as I once did and would love a (almost!) zero maintenance bike for my next 10 years, bloody chains and sprockets are a right pain when half of the Peak District is stuck to my back end. Would you still overall recommend a Hai 10? Going to JE James to peruse tomorrow and I think they can be got on Cyclescheme. Cheers

Absolutely. Think I've said before that yes it has some down sides and is just 85nm and not the 120 from Avinox but it takes me where I want to go and with a smile on my face. I see you can buy the 10 for a quid under 6k now. Not sure where you are but I had fab service from Rich at Sussex ebikes and he matched a price on mine.
I have also finally got the 2 major spares just for peace of mind - the belt and the snubber. Got good deal on the belt at £55ish and not that there's anything wrong but just thought if they break I'm buggered so keep in the car now. It is amazing how much the snubber does, or rather doesnt do if it is not in the right place.
But in the past 2 months of rain, poop and mud I come home, was with the hose pipe and towel dry, in fact think spend more time cleaning my boots that the bike! If you are SW then have a ride with me.
I would buy again without hesitation..... and the bike is also good, I know the 11 has upgrades but I'm not jumping 100 yard gaps and prefer XC, natural tracks to parks so more than enough for me. Buy it.

Hi mate thanks for getting back. I’m just polishing the Levo for photos on Pink. I’m very tempted, unfortunately not in the SW but up in the Peak. JE James are my dealer locally so hoping they will go to £6k too. The rinse and repeat is very appealing as I spend as much time fixing my chain as washing my gear at present. Anyone want a bargain Levo?!

Fudge & sons and Ebike direct both <6k. Shout if you need anything.

Hey mate, I’ve read all of he (admittedly very few) reviews out there on the 10 - I can’t afford the 11! What do you think to the negatives that pop up namely drag when you tip out the 15.5 mph assistance, the whiney 1-4 gears, the clunk 4/5 and 8/9 and the vulnerability of that tensioner spring? I’m not really put off as a derailleur bend trumps al of these and is far more likely, but always good to get the full picture . Also what real world range you seeing from the 800w battery? Cheers

I am not fit, can't ride a normal bike, the drag is more with the pinion than my jam2 bosch motor but I ride without problem! Everyone mentions the whinning 1-4 gears, no one mentions the absolute silent 9-12 gears. I have more to worry about going up a cliff in 1-4 than the whine, as with the clunk. The clunk is scary the first time you hear it, but the 4th time you don't notice it. Real range is hard to say, easily 20m but that was on a flat circuit so motor was always on. The modes give a range after 100km of travel and they normally read 50+ km which I think is 30mils-ish. I was out with a fair few people today and I had the worse battery life - 20% and others had 30-35%. Battery probably due to the drag?
Spring - whats the height of the spring against a derailleur? I ride a lot single track with stones and not had any problems but think its all luck on spring / hanger?
As said previous, no bike is 100% - for me the motor queries don't bother me at all, the drag - well I manage to ride it, battery is a little concern but I can ride for 2hrs so think its ok? If an extender was brought out I would buy for sure, but I don't lose sleep over it.

800Wh seems a decent battery size to me, and range depends on your weight and what power you're using. My Orbea has 540Wh and I can ride as far as I want to; eco for long rides, trail for short blasts. I'd be more than happy with the 800Wh battery on this slightly heavier bike.

Are you calling me fat.......

Still wavering, there are so few reviews compared to the Amflow, Cube, Spesh etc
The only thing stopping me is the (slim) possibility of another MGU bike coming out soon, but you could use that excuse for not buying any bike really. That and the fact that my current bike does everything I want, so I'll just put up with chain maintenance for a bit longer.

If you want reviews, then our own Rob did a couple of videos and bought the Nicolai bike. Just get the bike that does most of what YOU want it to do. Power then Amflo etc...

I reckon at the end of this year a couple of the big names will be showing prototypes... and April 2027 there will be a glut of releases, same as the avinox motor this year.
But where's the fun in waiting!!

Ha yeah know what you mean. I think I can get one of these with a certain tax saving buying scheme too. Looking at Rob’s review again he mentions that the lag, overrun and gear selection has improved. Whenever you buy a bike someone brings a better one out for a grand less straight away. I certainly don’t want another winter of chain carnage, is it just me that has a salad bed’s worth of mud on my rear mech every ride? Mgu has me hooked and 160nM uphill in 1-4 will definitely quieten the motor whine I’ll let you know if I plunge in

My only grumble with the CF 11 is the passive battery drain. Which with the cold days is even worse so there is some kind of power draw occurring even with the bike off. But nobody else online seems to be complaining so it might be my bike rather than the model.
And I too bought a rubber strap for the battery cover - but no big deal.
I've not had any issues with the dropper post and the same can't be said for my 2 Specialised bikes (which haven't lost any battery power sitting in the same shed though).

Not sure I have had passive draining? I normally take mine off the bike and keep in doors and charge indoors too. This week I charged last Sunday evening and went out yesterday morning - put it on charge before I went and charger went to orange for about 10 seconds - so no battery drain off the bike in 6 days.
I'm thinking the battery is shite because of weather / temperature, muddy terrain, gert big tyres and doesnt want to be out in this weather.... Roll on the summer and I think will be better.

I went out a week last Saturday and came back on 79%. Untouched until yesterday and I was at 45%. Which is the worst drain I've seen. I'm going to try the charge to store option at some point and see if that is the same.

?? Explain - don't understand
I think it's probably the same as the battery saver option. But when on charge, you can use the arrows to flick between Store and Normal.

OK, thats a new one havent seen that - better go see what I'm doing.
Have you charged your battery off the bike, and then see what it is in a few days? If like mine nothing happens then reckon you have a short somewhere on the bike which is draining it?

Yeah that's my diagnosis plan. Once the weather improves I'll be out almost every day, at which point it doesn't really matter. But it is annoying me tbh.

So asked the bike shop what the difference is between store and normal and..... Thanks to Rich at ebikesussex.com

Menu–Charge
The charge indicator appears as soon as the charger is connected to the e-bike. Use the plus/minus button to select
the charging mode (NORM, FAST, STORE) and save it by pressing the rocker switch. The Long Life mode can be
switched on or off with the light button.

Charging mode Description
NORM(Normal)
Normal charging

FAST (Fast)
Fast charging

STORE(Storage)
Storage mode
If the battery is not going to be used for an extended period of time, we recommend
storage mode «Storage» and an optimum storage temperature between 5 and 15°C.
In Storagemode, the battery is charged to about 60% which allows the battery to bridge
the time until it is reused as gently as possible.

Long Life
Slightly less capacity is available if the battery is used in LONG LIFE mode. Ontheother
hand, the battery retains its capacity for longer. The LONG LIFE mode is available for
both normal and fast charging. In LONG LIFE mode, the battery is charged to about
80%

I believe fast charging is something you have to pay extra for as a software update, but it can cause faster battery degradation

Just Wondering where you guys are with your real world (real 2 foot of mud everywhere uk world) experience on the Pinion still. I’m sending the code in to get my cycle scheme as I type. Hope I’m doing the right thing!

In what respect - miles? as stated pretty low compared to old bosch but I'm putting that down to sheddar tyres, 2 foot mud, real mud and pretty cold?
As far as liking it in the real world - YES. Loving it. Ride pretty much in flow which if tour on the bosch and that seems to do most things but hysterically fun when in Fly (turbo). In these conditions it has not missed a beat - chain came off the other day but think that was bush, ferns, crap, popped back on and rode out of a bog!! Get home, wash it off for 3 minutes and pop in garage. I try and keep the snubber clean and lubricated as for a round of plastic that does loads - keeps belt on and stops it slipping. (have a look at Andy boy - @OldNorthern_eMTBer on you tube - he's documented most problems with his Nicolai and they have now swapped over the snubber to the same on the haibike).
Let's see some pics and hear your thoughts when you do get it.
