Hi All
It's been a while since purchase and think I've done about 400 miles on it so just thought I'd give a bit of a review/ what's it like type thread.
I've come from a 2020 Jam 6.8 Bosch. First impression in almost all rides was that the Jam is an oil tanker of a bike, where the Haibike seems very nimble (almost twitchy) and agile, which is strange as they both weigh nigh on the same.
Motor delivery is also very different and takes a bit of getting use to. Bosch seems all power and gives a kick with a Jeremy Clarkson POWER shout, where as the Pinion is very linear and you don't realise anything is happening.... but then you are at the top of the hill. I did try and play around with the settings in the app but then went back to the factory as that seemed to give best variation between the modes - off/eco/flow/flex/fly - I spend most time in Flow and that seems to do most single track round where I am but decent oomph from flex and fly as well.
Noise - lots of YouTube reviews have said its noisy, in 1-4 very, 5-8 so so and 9-12 silent. there is a clank between 4 & 5 and 8&9 which is a tad scary first time under load but then like everything after a few rides you don't hear / feel them - it's just part of your bike.
Gears - just the BEST bit - sounds like the noise of an arrow on Robin Hood, so fast, so easy, so precise, just love the gears. I have mine set to go into 4th gear when you stop which is wonderful on gates and stoppages. Shifting gear without moving is also fantastic - don't realise how useful it is.
Brakes - I'm not that techy but they stop me. Forks and suspension - I'm not that techy but seems to be a smooth ride where I bike. Dropper - slight niggle here as you need to sort of sit going forward to drop it (on Jam was just straight up/down) but not sure if that is regular or not and a real minor thing. Mullet - don't notice it really unless that's what makes it feel real nimble and agile coming down hill.
I think all in all, as I am not techy and just want to ride, it's a great bike - the no gear faff is just so reassuring for me - everything just works. I think the pinion motor could do with a bit more Bosch (or guess now it's the avinox) type power and a bit more meaty but my legs have always given out before the motor!! It's definitely not lacking power for sure.
Battery - 800watts and seems to do 30-40 miles, although has an annoying battery saver when it charges to 80% and been caught out twice on long ride. The app. could do better or I need to read up more, I'd like to change screens but cant seem to 'set' a main screen, just goes back to the front screen and can another moan is that its all KM - those dashed Europeans. No miles or MPH.
Going back on to my old bike - no, just feels very agricultural with chain, cassette and gear change. Can it be better? Yes of course, put this drive train on a Bosch /DJI and that would be perfect. Am I glad I changed to this bike - Absolutely.
If any other riders out there that are more clued up on the app - setting screen, getting best out of the drive modes, setting up how to record / follow a route please let me know. THANKS.

@Flog any chance you could do me a favour please?
Take a measurement between shock and down tube so I can work out if my fidlock bottle will fit under it. Could you also take a measurement of the top bottle mount screw to the top of the down tube where it meets the top tube so I can see how much space to transfer my current frame bag.

Cheers
James

The strap you have put on, is for better sealing of battery cover?
Mine has also this gap, I thought it could be a defect of my bike, then now I think it could be a bad desing. Haibike should improve also this.
To solve this issue I have glued on the edge of the cover a small strip of rubber, taken from a windshield wiper
it’s a bit of a botch job, it’s not perfect, but it works.

No, the guy in the bike shop gave it to me and said he had the cover come off so he always used one "just in case"
The gap isn't too big on mine - the cover could do with upgrading but it does all work ok

Sorry @Flog , one more measurement, the width of the down tube if possible please?

Slightly concerning the battery cover doesn't clip in that well with the price of these bikes 🙄

Well, I don’t think that cover comes off easily, in my opinion, the guy may not have close the cover properly
My complaint is more focused on the fact that there is some space between the cover and the frame, and water and mud can go into the battery room. But there is no rattle noise and the cover is firmly attached to the frame
I don’t know if the Flog’s bike has also this issue
But, yes, you are right and a bike of this price should not has this kind of issues
Anyway it’s a great bike and this issue does not overshadow the rest of the bike’s features
Find a shop that lets you test it. You won’t regret it at all

It's finding a place not too far from me that I can test one, the remaining issue is the reach (large frame ) , 15mm more than my 2020 Trek Rail but the medium is 15mm less than the Rail 🤣

Where did you guys test yours?

You can solve the reach issue in a size M by,04º, changing the steam for a longer one.
I didn’t test it before. It was a blind purchase.
no regrets.

@j_s
Must admit mine was a blind purchase as well, but Rich at eBike Sussex - The Electric Bike Specialists - 01273 596368 is the guy to see - totally awesome and makes a great coffee as well. The shop is soooooo full of e-bikes and some lovely kit. He's into the Pinion as well and has sold a fair few so knows a lot about the system. If you are ever south you can take mine out!!

Ohhhhh, you've gone big with the CF11 - does look nice. Although the blue (CF10) is a solid colour, I do like this rose gold. How have you found it, please don't say you are waiting for the film - ride it like you stole it!!!! Let me/us know what you think - we need more pinion champs!!

Sadly not been out yet, had to wait for a dry patch to get it properly washed and dried to then apply the film and then ceramic coating goes on straight after, vin theory that's tomorrow and then a very quick test out on it. Proper ride out soon even if it rains 😯😂. Part of the reason I opted for the pinion, less faff for me to sort out the bike.

Still need to swap my carbon bar over and likely put some gum coloured Peaty grips on it but will keep standard bar and grips to see how they feel.
Also waiting on Wolf Tooth B-RAD base and double bottle adaptor to get the Fidlock bottle in, it doesn't quite fit under the piggy back with the basic bottle mount so angling the bottle to one side I'm hoping will clear it.

Hi @j_s I have just worked out who you are! The bike was a dead give-away. :ROFLMAO:
Enjoy the bike.
Whoever gets that Trek Rail of yours will get a bargain.
(I assume tnat you will be selling it and not keeping it)>

Cheers Steve.
Yep, it was how I contacted you a few years ago for the rides around Pines

The Rail is now sold, someone indeed did get an absolute bargain but I get a few quid back towards the Haibike and someone carries on riding it and are happy with it. Seeing as Rails only a year to a year and a half old weren't selling at quite frankly cheap prices, there was no hope my coming up to 6 years old Rail was going to get top dollar, especially with a scratched up and battered battery cover - first month of owning it, it popped out as I turned off a road. Had the latch checked after that, but decided to add a velcro strap around it just in case.

The B-RAD stuff sorted out my Fidlock bottle clearance, so I know have the ability to add 2 fidlock bottles side by side.

@Flog , @Frompi This might be a stupid question but how do you remove the rear wheel? It's a hollow rear axle with what looks like 2 hex sizes, the larger outer fits an 8mm and the inner fits a 6mm. If I try the outer, it is absolutely solid whereas the inner doesn't seem to loosen up after I get it to turn a bit, I didn't want to force it so left it. Am I missing something here? My previous bikes, you just used a 6mm and it loosened up as normal and out it comes, they were solid axles though.

I love it when someone else comes to my biking mechanical skills!!!!
From memory, on the brake disc side, put in the larger hex key and unwind, it will unscrew. You do need to add the snubber side as it will just spin - sorry that is confusing. disc side the larger hex key, snubber side the smaller, hold the smaller and un-do the larger - that make sense. Once undone it's a bit fiddly (and you may need to undo the snubber - take a picture of where it was as it does need to go back in the same place) but will come out.

All that sounds confusing and I think I have made it harder than it needs to be. Any probs shout.

I had the same issue. I was unable to unlock it. I pushed so hard the key that I finally “cleared” the hex head and I had to take the bike to the shop
Don’t try to loosen the screw on the belt side. This screw is for the sram lever and it loosens by turning in the opposite direction (clockwise)
I think that this is what it caused my issue.
But before loosen the axel you have to release the tension of the belt
In this video you will see how to do it. (Min 1:20)

Cheers guys.

It was the hex key I had, the wera ones I use have almost a taper to them so they don't fit if the hex slot is buried slightly like on the Haibike.

Been out a few times on mine now, love the gear change! The zeb fork and shock combo make the bike feel great even though I'm a bimbler rather than out and out search for the gnar rider 🤣

Went up some steep climbs and it went up them great. I do still prefer the feel of the Bosch motor power delivery to the mgu though. Also riding with assistance off up a slight incline wasn't too bad (would not opt to do it much though), I went for a ride with the guy who bought my old Rail and he ran out of battery about 2 miles from home so I switched mine off in solidarity. As soon as we got to his place , motor back on for me 🤣

One other thing, how do you guys get on with the dropper post? For me it's a bit on the crap side, works fine if off the bike but on the bike it ain't great at all.

The Bontrager one on my old Rail was flawless for nearly 6 years.

Know what you mean. When I test ride it I said dropper is sticking , but was told you need to slightly move forward when you drop and that works well now. Still the odd time I sit straight down and it sticks but just a bit.
Still liking it?
Just wish the weather would dry up a little to get out more.
