GOBAO ECVT EMTB Mid-Drive Motor

The rumours are that the Levo G5 will come with a gobao system.
This would be profound if true! And would make total sense for likes of Specialized. Gobao could easily become the new Brose for them. This is exactly what we want. Competition in the ebike motor space again, not to mention and instant validation of the Motor-Transmission-Unit MTU space (need to stop calling it MGU).

Heard this a few months ago, in Spesh bikeshop from another country than mine (France). I thought it was a joke , and still think it is one (US company buying chinese motor ? Especially in the actual context. But heh, if Spesh wakes up and delivers a proper new Levo, and not a fridge on wheels, they can have my money).

At higher outputs. cog belts are more efficient than metal chains because they lack the joint friction and metal-on-metal wear that rob power over time. Belts are also clean, silent and require zero lubrication.

This Gobao system also supports a chain should you wish to run one.

As for maintenance: I can only see a sealed unit containing all of the drive and gearing requiring less maintenance, over an exposed system, with a RD hanging off the back of the bike.
I am curious what source the information came from. My understanding is you are correct in regards to better noise control although, Roller chains generally remain more efficient than cogged synchronous belts at higher power outputs.

While cog belts do eliminate metal-on-metal joint friction, they experience significant energy losses from hysterece (the constant flexing and deforming of the rubber/polymer material) and tooth shear under heavy loads. High-quality metal chains running with proper lubrication typically achieve efficiencies of 98 to 99 percent slightly outperforming cog belts in high-torque, high-horsepower applications.

What if the motor is blocked in one rotational direction? That way it can amplify the ratio, but if it is dead, it will be stuck at its lowest ratio. And there won’t be pedal assistance. But it could work.
I've looked into planetary gearing a bit. It's very flexible and you can configure it in a number of ways. The sun gear is sentral here, as is the possibility to lock it with an electromagnetic brake (no current = locked) or a sprag clutch.

1) Sun gear is only allowed to go forward: When stationary, you are in the hardest gear. When spinning faster, the gear becomes progressively easier
2) Sun gear is only allowed to go backwards: When stationary, you are in the easiest gear. When spinning faster, the gear becomes progressively harder
3) Sun gear can go both ways: When stationary, you are in a middle-ish gear

So you are right, it is possible to lock the sun gear when the battery is dead. What gear you're in when this happens is determined by how the planetary gear is configured.

Planetary gears are very clever!

Hardly real competition given Gobao is another Chinese company which, like the rest of them, is undoubtedly controlled by the state!

Because the U.S.A don't massively support their industry, nor pirat E.U. / outside US top tech industries ?

Occident : the goods
rest of world : the bads ?

Oh god ...

Future of "Western Technology" dialog ... warning long winded

Title: The Circular Firing Line of Innovation

Characters:

  • ALEX: A stressed Western tech executive.
  • LIU: A representative from Chinese Tech Giant A.
  • ZHANG: A representative from Chinese Tech Giant B.

[SCENE START]

(INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY)

ALEX sits at a massive table, rubbing his temples. A sleek, glowing smartphone sits in front of him.

ALEX

(To himself)

We spent five years and three billion dollars developing this AI-powered toaster. We are going to dominate the market.

(Doors fly open. LIU walks in, holding a device that looks like a glowing crystal ball.)

LIU

Too late, Alex! My company just launched the Quantum-Toaster 9000. It doesn't just toast bread; it predicts when you’ll want toast and holographically projects your morning news onto the butter. And it costs four dollars.

ALEX

(Gasping)

Four dollars?! That undercuts our manufacturing costs by 200%! You’re destroying Western tech!

(Doors fly open again. ZHANG sprints in, out of breath, holding a tiny metallic cube.)

ZHANG

Hold your horses, Liu! My company just acquired Liu’s supply chain and launched the Sub-Atomic Toast-Photon. It bakes bread at the speed of light, feeds your dog via algorithm, and we pay the customer fifty cents to take one.

LIU

(Slamming table)

Zhang! You copied our holographic butter interface! We announced that four minutes ago!

ZHANG

Four minutes is ancient history, Liu! We already updated the firmware three times while I was walking down the hallway.

ALEX

Wait... so you two aren't even trying to beat me anymore?

LIU & ZHANG

(Simultaneously, without looking at Alex)

Who are you?

LIU

(To Zhang)

Oh, you think you’re fast? We just open-sourced your entire corporate database and turned your factory into a automated smoothie stand.

ZHANG

Jokes on you, we already bought that smoothie stand and leveraged it to buy your parent company. Look at your phone!

LIU

(Checks phone, gasps)

My ringtone is your corporate anthem! How did you do this?!

ALEX

(Interjecting)

Guys, please! What about the global tech ecosystem? What about fair competition?

ZHANG

(Pats Alex on the shoulder)

Don't worry, Western friend. We will let you buy the movie rights to our corporate warfare.

LIU

Too late, my company just released the movie. It’s already streaming in Zhang's brain.

It's a tiny bit visually similar (inverted) to the Brose concept drive from 2 years ago - which had a 420% range and was supposedly intended for city and trekking bikes. Torque was limited to 60nm.

I think Bosch releasing a gen 6 as an eCVT is a good way to get out of the 750w corner they have put themselves in. They can say 750w isn’t enough for an eCVT to work.

Ahh, in that case, you'll need to enable your subspace transmissions for faster-than-light (FTL) contact across the galaxy, and handheld combadges for local, person-to-person linking. Together with the Universal Translator, these systems power integrate seamlessly, to get you home!! :ROFLMAO:😭

That was a good one! But I think in that situation, you'd call Gobao's customer support, and they'd teleport you home—for free.

Yes. February 2027.
Ahhhh 💩 of course I've ordered a M2S, and by the time I get the bike.... why oh why do they do this to me!! However, will Forbidden take this up.... will we be able to swap out the M2S for this new Avinox motor... but then what happens to the geo and CS length stuff if you take out the derailleur and shorten the chain.. aw crap....

Why wouldn't they just teleport you a replacement motor straight into the bike ? And possibly a cold beer if you were still in warranty.
