2026 Giant Reign E+ Megathread

Wow - those prices are insane. +0 is NZ$21,500 with a similar spec to the old +1 which was NZ$13,000 - similar to the much lower spec +2 at NZ12,500. Guessing the sales will knock 20% off which will be what most sell for.

The Velduro Rogue R retails at NZ$17,000 with a spec similar to the 0, but with the DJI motor and 800w
You are correct, the sales will come soon enough. Plenty of 2024 stock still out there in NZ as Giant is on clearance hard.

My LBS has MY24 Reign E+2 for $6132 and the Reign E+1 for $9750

Yamaha have an 840Wh battery for their 48v link systems listed on their website:

Like previous batteries, I'd imagine that external dimensions are all the same.
There is a 1.0kg weight increase for this larger battery which isn't much.
I agree they will bring out the bike with a larger battery at a later date.
Or it will be at least purchasable.

They probably started with the smaller battery to they can brag about lower weight and keep costs down for now. with a long term goal to up sell next year for the 2027 models with larger battery’s etc

They have to leave them self’s some head room to make the next few years models “better”

More I look at it more I'm impressed. Cat 5 frame, big forks and shock, burely build, heavy tires and 22.xkg. also removable battery which also adds weight to the design. I can't think of another ebike with all that and a similar weight.

PW-x4 motor supports the larger 840wh battery that is made for it. The new reign will accept this battery. But production of the battery isnt ramped up yet. It will 100% support it. Like the old reign that supported the 800wh when that came out.

This gives the reign a real advantage as all other full power bikes with 600wh batteries, they cannot be upgraded or swapped in the carpark. .
Are you sure it accepts the 840wh battery? If so then that’s great.

Surely the 840wh is physically longer though?

It’s definitely very modular and for a big hitting full power e-bike it is pretty damn light.

If they could bring out a bigger battery that fits in the down tube for longer days it’s a home run if you ask me!
I want a water bottle not a range extender

Giant have previous for doing this. Did it for the last reign. Expect the same for this one

Exactly. If you look at there track record they have the same bike for roughly 3-4 years and make it alittle better each year before they make bigger changes/rebuids.

Same in the motocross world.

But in the mtb world they tend to do it more on purpose, keep things held back and cards close to there chest and drip feed it to use over a few years, as they need to make the next year model more appealing.

It’s just basic long term marketing.
While it’s a shame right now.
It will come.

There was a pic earlier in the thread showing the 560wh battery in the down tube and it takes up the full length of the slot. So if there is a bigger battery it either shares the same casing or else it will have to be thicker/deeper. Perhaps the down tube cover already accounts for the extra space this would require.

But the 840wh battery for the new Yamaha motors was super thick and was not specifically a Giant product.

A lot of the time with batteries they can up the cell density and also it wouldn’t surprise me if that small 560w battery is half full of air.

Yeah, Giant don't use the Yamaha batteries, they do their own using Panasonic cells. That's not to say that they definitely won't offer a bigger battery at some point but it's far from certain that the Yamaha 840wh battery will slot right in. That being said, the fact that you can swap between 625wh, 750wh and 800wh batteries on the current bike with no modifications does suggest that Giant may go down that route again if they can package a bigger battery to fit in the narrower down tube on the new bike. It seems to me that it's speculation at this point though.

Exactly on my currently 2024 reign I have 625wh and 800wh and depending on if it’s an after work or longer weekend ride I’ll choose accordingly.. and if I’m going away to a bike destination or bike park I’ll take both fully charged. And swap them at lunch. Very rare I’d get though both in one day I’m normal smoked after the 800 is done.

Yep. Giant having a deal that Panasonic only supply them helps. Make the best cells in the game. Hence last time they brought out a 800wh in the same size as the 625wh

I have the current 625 and 800 batteries and it's pretty much impossible to tell them apart at a casual glance.

Asked ChatGPT, it says that 840wh battery is around 12% longer than the other one by compare both photos.

I wouldn't expect a bigger battery anytime soon. Giant claims the 540wh battery weighs 2,7kg vs 3,2kg for the Yamaha battery - it doesn't look very big either. I do not think there is much air left in the battery case. The giant trance advanced e+ elite still comes with 400 wh and a Range Extender. I believe that is the concept they will stick to. I think chances are higher that they will release a Giant Reign made of aluminium with a bigger battery.

Hopefully have a demo of the giant in the next 3-4 weeks. Been looking at other bikes (vala, cube one77, bullit etc) but this is really looking good to me. Just need to see how it handles on the downs.

Another thing to consider, imaging trying to sell on sell these used in a couple of years? Buyers will simply not see past the battery size when 800w elsewhere is the norm. You going to be wedded to this thing.

That won't make any difference. If anything it's a positive. Just have two 560 batteries. Massive range but a light bike. Win win. Being a removable battery is a huge plus.

I would think otherwise, the bike is specifically built as a big travel Enduro rig... "midlight-fullfat" new category🙄🤷‍♂️, IMO someone(serious trail rider) looking for dedicated terrain rig will look past an 800Wh bike because of handling-unless off course the tech in the years comes as far so that the 800Wh weighs as the todays best 600ish packs cca 3kg...
All other(Touring like, occasional Trail) riders will look for other bikes such as a full 29ers less travel where an 800Wh makes more sense.

Plus, lets be honest, any ebike you buy will lose thousands. Just a reality you have to accept.

The new model is noticeably better in every aspect.
• First of all geo. If these geo numbers are correct they make this bike more agile and more capable on technical uphill riding given the fact that can be set for more ground clearance and steeper head angle.
Current model is too low and slack for most of the stuff.
• cat 5 frame gives rider peace of mind
• slimmer and more beautiful carbon frame with modern display.

Only downside is the battery capacity.
560Wh surely isn’t what the majority of riders demand.
A 700Wh would be ideal. With a higher voltage system that would be equal as a 800Wh why messing with battery extenders?

edit :
I asked chatgpt about this.
It says that a 48V system gives you 2-8% more range compared to 36V

So think of a 560wh as a 600wh with the current standards. But! The good news here is that it will not fade so quickly as years go by.

Keeps it lighter. If efficiency is what is claimed, 560 will be equivalent to 650 now. More than enough. Especially considering it can be swapped out easily. I'm all for this. Big burely bike but still on the lighter side. Won't suit everyone but perfect for me. Chuck a spare in my back pack for the rare instances I go on a massive loop somewhere. Otherwise just keep it in the van can charge one while riding. Endless power 😂

The first quick run test from Flow mountain bike channel - they say they got cca 1459m of altitude gain from the 560Wh, that on par with the previous 625Wh on a weaker motor.
I’m guessing that was not in turbo my 625 would get maybe 3000ft in a high power mode and I’m not a heavy rider

I wonder why they didn’t go with the 100nm that the motor is capable of or if they are going to make it an option in the future. I’m not saying I need the extra torque, it would just be nice to have the option I guess.

I rode the large and medium e+2, the medium almost feels bigger than my large 2022 reign e. I’m guessing it has something to do with stack height, if I choose to buy one I might go with the medium and use the +5mm headset cups. I am tempted to buy it because I have really enjoyed the reign e for the last 4 years, but there are so many more options it’s hard to choose.
