oh, not looking to go through all the hassle of building it from frame up, electrical and all. was hoping something similar to mondraker or crestline

For a brand new release, I can't imagine there's a chance you'd see a frame-only option come in any cheaper than buying the full bike and selling off what you don't need.

Maybe later in its life once the initial sales buzz has worn off, but anything available now is going to command a premium price because they can.

FWIW the price of the frame alone that I have seen is equivalent to the lowest tier of build, once you add in the motor and battery. Probably more, once it all shakes out.

As @Free54 says that might just be an SKU for dealers to order-in for warranty purposes, but that's the only option I have seen, both in a Trek store and on various Trek dealer websites.

alright, I think lowest tier it is then. (y)

According to my friendly, neighbourhood Trek dealer, the frame only options are there if someone is stupid enough to want one. They have their own ordering system for parts and accessories.

I cannot confirm to what extent there is an SKU for each frame, but for the Slash+ and Fuel+ you can buy one if you want to... but you'd need your head looking at if you did!

Seriously thinking on a LX eagle 90 / enduro build with coil to replace my acoustic m enduro bike ( Pivot Firebird) which doesn’t get too much love since the Full Bosch CX bike does a heck of a job but thinking at a 20ish kg bike or even sub 20 with a smaller battery . Could that be achieved on a L size bike ?

My large framed EX 9.8 XT with carbon wheels, was 20.2 kg, as delivered, with the 580 battery excl. pedals. I have got it down to 19.6 kg (ready to ride incl. pedals), after swapping in a few lighter components. With an LX Eagle 90, low 20's kg might be achievable, but the factory spec reckons on 20.88kg excl. pedals as delivered, so it could be a challenge. I guess the coil and the fox 38 fork on the LX adds a bit to the weight compared to the EX.

There are a few places where weight could be gained without cutting performance like :

- lighter coil spring or a Vivid ( love that shock )
- cassete / cranks
- break rotors ( SRAM HS2 are just crazy heavy )
- better wheelset .
- smaller battery ( for some occasions that 290/360 might just work )

Anyone here ridden both? I saw one in store and it felt quite a bit heavier than the original EXE. Curious if someone can provide some details on how they compare geometry wise too. Not too fussed about the power, i thought the exe was great already.

for sure with a 580 instead of the 360 w battery there is near 800g wheight to add .that's why I will order a 360 for the fuel+

I maybe wrong but unless there is a new 360wh battery from TQ, the 2nd Gen Fuel+ is not compatible with the older 360wh battery as its slimmer than the 580wh?

Not sure I understand you, but the 360wh and 580wh are interchangeable on the Slash+. As far as batteries, seems more of a length change than a profile change.

So I think any bike that can take a 580 can take a 360 too. And so probably the 290 as well.

Must be some amazing trek engineering as the 360 is rectangle and from what I have seen the 580 looks like it has 5 sides with a distinct triangle profile on one side?

look at the fuel+/serviceMANUAL p22/28 you have the description of the adapateurs yo have to order with the tq 360W battery

Ahh thank you for the clarification. The Fuel+ is not even released in my country yet so we don’t have the bike nor the information.

Good to know it’s just adaptors!

Old picture, 360wh (L), 580wh (R), doesn’t show the profiles but you can see the length/widths.

I'm seriously considering a 8 or a 9.7 to replace my 2018 Fuel EX. Maybe a bit odd question, but what does the rear tire clearance look like, especially width wise? I have a set of 27.5+ wheels with 27.5x3.0 spike tires (Suomi Tyres Fat Freddie), which are about as tall as a 29x2.4 but obviously around 3" wide at the height. It'd be nice to get some use out of the set.

I have put 27.5” x 3” studded Wrathchild tires on my Fuel ex-e. Not sure if the Fuel+ clearance is identical, but it should be very similar. Clearance for me is pretty tight… about 4mm on each side. No rubbing yet, but I’m also not exactly railing corners in the conditions that require their use anyways. The chain does rub the tire sidewall on occasion in the lowest 3 gears, but it hasn’t resulted in any problems yet.

Thanks, I think I'll just have to wait and see. IIRC the Fat Freddie is actually a fair bit bigger than a Wrathchild.

If nothing else, then I can do a 27.5f/29r reverse mullet, now how cool would that be!

I had my first proper problem with the Fuel+ this week after 550 miles (880km). Proving the old adage, that the 'Apple never falls far from the family tree', it has developed exactly the same loud drivetrain creak that the EXE has a reputation for.

As I have replaced the chainring for a lighter one and have fitted longer pedal arms, I started fault finding there as these are components that I have previously disturbed. I removed the pedal arms, checked the torque on the lock ring for the chainring. I found that the lock ring needed 8nm more torque. Care if you do this, as the fragile & easy to cross-thread or over-torque aluminium lock ring needs tightening counter-clockwise, and its well known in engineering circles that many cheaper bi-directional torque wrenches don't measure torque counter-clockwise particularly accurately. I then reinstalled the pedal arms but it didn't fix the creak.

I then checked the motor mounting bolts and found the problem straight away. The rear upper motor mount bolt only had 12nm of torque on it and the front lower one only 16nm. I tightened them both to the 20nm recommended in the Fuel+ service manual. I probably should have re-greased them, but I will leave that until the bike has more miles under it.

This fixed the problem.

Hello, I ordered the Fuel+ LX version.
It Will be my first Coil shock.
Not sure which spring tot order.

I'm 80 kg/176 lBS with gear.
I ordered the 475 spring.

Does Anyone have any feedback, experience with the LX model ?

Thanks

I ve order a 350 and 400 for my 70kgs without gear

Across many bikes, I've had good success with this formula:
rider weight (lbs) x Leverage ratio = spring rate (round up)
You can calculate the (generalized) leverage ratio by diving the travel by the shock stroke. So 160mm / 65mm= 2.46

176lbs x 2.46=432.96

So I'd start with a 450lb spring. But I think a 475 might be perfect if you ride aggressively and want to run lighter compression damping. I think the spring tolerances are easily +/-25lbs anyways. I think you should be good.

Try one of these too, gives some adjustment on spring rate…

I ve order second hand springs ( 350 and 400) before ordering the sprindex one

Thanks for the formula 👍
The bikeshop is going to let me try the 475 & 450.
One of these should be good 🤞

My wife just picked up a 9.7 (medium) and it seems like a great bike. I love the TQ60 paired with a 580wh battery (no range anxiety). The geo and everything about the bike seems dialed.

I would have bought one myself one but their XXL geo is a bit wonky. At 6'5" I feel I'm between the XL and XXL size. They also made the same mistake (IMO) as Santa Cruz and Specialized by making the front center overly long and the rear center not long enough. You end up with such an unbalanced feeling bike. It sucks to have to constantly think about maintaining weight on the front tire the entire ride. Size specific chainstays are a step in the right direction but most brands aren't going far enough to maintain similar proportions (F:R ratio) across sizes.
