Bafang m510

what is new ?
Nobody ever knows, that’s the fun of Bafang, it’s a surprise every time! They have the absolutely worst software release practices of anyone out there. Multiple builds citing the same date on them, zero release notes most of the time, apps that brick motors.

yes, the torque sensor feel better.
Against M510 ? M560 feels pretty good already so maybe dado could check if there is a difference between M510 and M510RS torque sensor but I doubt about it. It could be firmware.

Pretty sure Bafang said there is a new torque sensor in both of the new RS motors.

Someone needs to check because there were rumors also for peek gear. We need a complete autopsy :)
I remember seeing somewhere that these early demo motors would not yet have the plastic gear so I think that’s expected. Think I saw that on Facebook somewhere.

Thanks for accepting me to EMTB Forums!

I would like to ask about my Leaderfox E-Bike with Bafang M510 Motor. I tried to read into the topic for quite some time, but would still need a bit of help to understand all of this.

I read, that the Bafang M510 should already have pyramid-shaped CAN BUS type Connection to the Display - but on my display, there is a round UART type plug (please see pictures).

Even more confusion for me is, that the Display Manual (Type KD686) also shows the round UART connector but mentions the display being a 'CAN BUS Model' - which I tought always have a pyramid shaped connector.

I have the intention to find out more - as I want to adjust the speed limit on my display/controller - which is obviously locked at the moment. We have some where nice offroad mountainbike- and race tracks where I live that I want to try out with some more motor support ;)

i think u have locked motor , it will not update unless special tool is used - not regular besst

Hi, I think it is CAN, look url COMPTEUR / DISPLAY VAE LEADER FOX KD-686 COMPATIBLE MOTEUR CENTRALE BAFANG SUPPORT CAN BUS, CONNECTEUR BAFANG G5.4 3700948290743 - P2R

So you should trace wire from display inside frame to found normal CAN connector.

@ pxl666 & ncs
Thank you for your reply.
Now it makes sense (to me) - so it is the cable that has different plugs on both ends.

Since ncs mentioned that the motor could be locked I guess I have to forget about finding a solution and have to accept it then.. Sad :(

motor could be locked
Not me,
You should trace wire from display inside frame to found normal CAN connector, if you found it you can buy (take from someone) BESST and use loginbypass.py + old version Besst soft try to set speed limit you want.

thanks - I will give it a try asap
You might want to have a look at

it’s a cheap way into programming the Bafang engines if you don’t already have a BESST tool available and you’re reasonably competent around computers.

Does anyone know the tuning potential of the M510 (I come from a BBS02b 48V 25A)?

I plan to use it with a 14s battery (charged to 58V), is there an option in the software to change amps to ~20A for short peak power?

May I ask you where you see the main advantage of the M510 vs. the older M600?
"Only" lower weight or anything else?

I replaced controller M510 V2.0 48V/ 14A with a more powerful M560/500W/48V/19A on my Dengfu E10 .The throttle now works up to 50 km/h. It should be now more powerfull, than Bosch CX5 ( 100Nm/750W).
I also added a removeable 2nd battery on my Dengfu E10 (48V/10Ah) - under the down tube of the frame down to the motor. Battery size: 290 * 75 * 45mm, 2 Velcro straps 38 mm and small holder at the bottom of the frame to prevent the battery from sliding down.

Yes, I saw Mirko's E-Bikeschmiede on the 'Bafang M500, M510, M560, M600, and M820 Users Group' on Facebook had also done so with his CEF69. He reported that his max is 25A and it's set to 85%. Are you running the controller at full power? Can your M510 handle it well?

so u changed m510 controller with m560 controller? plug and play and compatible?

Yes. I was inspired by Mirko's E-Bikeschmiede on FB: Zum Anzeigen anmelden oder registrieren
-after changing controller, calibration position sensor in Besst was done and setting cycling parameters in BesstPro and higher speed limit with display Bafang 600C in the end to 50 km/h.
What surprised me , that the throttle now doesn't disconnect at 32 km/h, like the original controller M510 V2.0.
I hope that the weakest parts of M510 motor (the Nylon gear and the one-way bearing in the secondary gear)
can handle higher loads.
