DH World Cup thread

Noticed that the course has been altered again this year to remove the woods section & the cannon into the metal ramp ahead of the cliff drop. The catch berm, if you can call it that at the entrance into the woods has caught loads of riders in the past but I will miss that part of it.

Kick off at 11am local folks. Was 9am, they've moved it for whatever reason.

One for the fans, Ric McLaughlin on the MBUK pod. Key moment at around 24 minutes. I dislike his comms, if I'm honest, partly because he isn't Warner but also because he's three years in & I can more or less predict what he's going to say at any given moment & on that level he becomes superfluous.

The interesting part is he reveals he's had dogs abuse for replacing Warner, isn't introspective about why, which I would expect, after all he is doing a job he's been asked to do & none of the rest of it is his fault in the slightest but telingly, there seems to have been no interation between him & Warner when it changed over. He pointedly mentions a phone call with a tennis commentator, from which you can draw an obvious inference.

Feck ! He Dunne wasn't hanging about ...

Matt Jones certainly knows how to execute a Scorpion!!

So good to see so many kiwis at this year’s event. Four in the top 12, too.

So many DNF’s (as expected), and brilliant to finally see a women’s champ crowned.

Well race time is on again and track walks posted. New track is looking fresh and if weather predictions come to pass should make things interesting. Any bets on if the crowd will be able to rush the finish line this year?

Roger Viera to win the next four rounds. BORA BORA!

Nothing will hold the lets gets crowd back.

Pissed it down all night here. At least they can practice in the wet and it should be the same for them all this year. Last year the rain started pretty much with the first racer, which caused absolute carnage!

Saw they put up double barriers above the finish & immediately thought that'll never work. Don't really know why the flics have a thing about it, the crowd invasion is a huge part of the spectacle at Les Gets, they should recognise it.

Elsewhere, I've swapped Gracey for Camille after GH said she doesn't like mud. I wonder if that will come back to haunt me.

The weather has upended the qualies, a few surprises in the top tens. Would be pretty cool to see some unusual names on the box today.

Saw Danny Hart in the pits after the race. He looked totally gutted to miss out by 0.16s

It rained a lot overnight and is still coming down a bit. As long as all racers get the same conditions then I don't mind. Should be a good race!

I was also impressed by how quiet the zerodes were coming over the little river gap towards the end. Belt drive may be the way forwards...

Ronan Dunne scaring the shite out of himself a few times on the way to P2 in qualy. Watch out for the final left at the exit from the woods, deep rut there nearly takes him out altogether.

Another great race in the books. It was pretty bad for everyone so no arguments from me. I’m currently on holiday in Australia so had to rely on Tiz to watch. Worked fine.

My team was Gracey, Millie, Jackson, Maes, Thiron and Keifer. Did pretty well with 100 points in PB Fantasy.

I’m into the top 3% now in 428th which I’m pretty stoked about. Onto world champs next weekend!

Hats off to the French fans who were there for the party regardless of who won.
Seriously! They were not to be denied....between the chainsaws and smoke bombs and the sheer humanity it is quite the spectacle, from afar anyway. The race was not bad either.

On to world's then & all the fancy frames. I reckon we saw another Bruni Masterclass yesterday, the overall is down to 25 points, Loic absolutely knows when to race percentages & rely on the vestigial ex junior win it or bin it syndrome. Jackson did say he crashed twice in the same spot, so it may be fair to suggest whatever Peaty whispered in his ear went straight out the other one.

Maybe I'm talking rubbish, wet races always rip up the form book & plenty crashed but Bruni for me is a master of playing the long game.

Such a composed (didn't think I'd ever say that!) ride from Ronan in those conditions!
Possibly the only rider to not put a foot out.

I expected more from Oisin, he looked very tentative and not his usual self in those conditions. But I have a theory..... I think he gambled on intermediates/dry tyres and it didn't work.
