Santa Cruz Vala

I posted this photo on the Bullitt forum. The 250mm cable works great with the battery end facing down. Not sure what they call that since the Bosch description is confusing. I have an XXL frame

Do you just pop off the rubber charge port cover, then reattach it when you finish using the PowerMore? That's what the Pivot manual suggests doing, SC doesn't say anything to that affect.

Yes, I cut the little tab off of it and just remove the cover. I would think If I didn't it would end up missing at some point. To replace it is like $4. I haven't lost it yet

I posted this on the Bullit forum. 250mm cable on an XXL frame is perfect. No frame contact. Cable exits down at battery and does not use the wrangler. Cut the tab off the battery cover and just remove it when not using the PowerMore. No dangling and if I had to replace it, it is $4. Repost to edit photo for improved quality

Try spraying some suspension lube around the motor mounts. It worked on my Bullit.
Hmm manual is specific regarding greasing and lubing motor bolts, just loctite on threads nothing else. I had few levos before and motor bolts should be greased to prevent unwanted sounds. This bike is problematic from day one its like a singer producing all sorts of songs during ride :)

Following up on my previous. Ordered some new bushings from Euroland ( thanks for the tip Shark58! ) that arrived today. Same day as Sc Bikes has one available due to the holiday break. New vs old. View attachment 152797
Hard to say why it happened. The inner lip locks into the frame and maybe it was damaged from the factory? Took no chances and ordered 6 of them!

Sweet ride!
OK, after contacting Santa Cruz recently about the movement and creaking noise from the bolts against the bushing sleeves, tech support told me that a new design on bolts and sleeves (from Bosch) were on the way to SC. And that a set was going to be shipped to me in the next few weeks. After waiting actually less than two weeks, they arrived on the mail. I was so excited to install them, that I did not take pictures, sorry. Bolts look almost the same, with a small difference on size, (bigger around the head of the bolt, compared to the original ones) Sleeves are completely different. However, when I was testing the new bolts without even replacing the sleeves, I noticed a big difference in how tight they fit now. No movement on the motor anymore. So, at the end, I ended up replacing just the bolts and it feels super solid. And saved the new sleeves for the next time I service it. This worked for me. I hope it works for you guys as well. So, basically, in my case, the original bolt heads were smaller than ideal. My bushings were still good and in place.

Hi all,

any medium GX Axs owners with confirmed weights (ready to ride)?
There seems to be quite a bit of variation between specs - Have seen 21.5 - 23kg in this thread

Was hoping for something under 22kg. My current alloy trek rail is 24.7kg with a EXT coil & WAO carbon wheels, so would probably build up with similar parts

Saw my first vala in the wild yesterday . Look really nice. The linkage to the rear triangle looked low and sick. Didn’t look too chunky either like a lot of new e-bikes. Nicest looking Ebike about I reckon

Anybody else had this kind of problem when pedalling? Bike has 200km and this sound started from the box but descreet, now its louder and louder.

Clicking sound video
I had the same sound. Turns out the motor mounts were a little loose.
I was able to fix it by just tightening the motor mount bolts with a torque wrench set to 35nm ( Torque setting supplied by Local Santa Cruz dealer)
Noise is totally gone, but I was told if that didnt work the mounts can fail and will need to be replaced under warranty

Just weighed mine at 22.9 kg. Plastic pedals . Rockshox neo Dropper post.. my Trek rail was 25.4 kg.

I have the exact same problem

Youtube link the sound
Yes! That was my problem!
I fixed the sound by laying the bike on the drivetrain side and put a few drops of chain lube on the heads of the bolts and bushings and left it like that over night so it will kinda soak the contact points and fixed the sound. However, the issue is that, in my case, the motor still had movement and the bolts needed to be replaced for the updated ones. Santa Cruz should have them now. I suggest to give them a call or send them an email. Their customer support is top notch.
I hope this helps.

I was able to score a Kiox400c off of eBay this week. Came from Italy via FedEx. Took 4 days to arrive and no tariffs. Came in OEM packaging. Easy install. There are a couple of YT videos for installing and pairing. The remote took a few tries to get paired. The display besides looking cool adds a lot of functionality that bike computers do not offer. Haven’t ridden the bike yet. Price was $247 USD. I had seen some in the US that were $349

Thanks, I just placed an order with them. We'll see if they ship it to the USA - a lot of the European webshops won't ship Bosch stuff to the US. But I didn't see any restrictions when I checked out so fingers crossed it goes through. Price even with $34 shipping was cheaper than the place I've got one backordered on in the US.

It might take a little longer if you order from Europe.
Shipping was with DHL which is usually OK. If it was Deutsche Post I could see it taking ages. The shop I've got it backordered from in the US doesn't even have a specific availability date, just "September".

BTW, I know a few of you guys who are running their Vala long-shocked also overforked to 170. Any long term thoughts on how it handles? I was looking at the numbers and in Lo geo chip with a 170 fork it has pretty similar geometry in terms of head angle, BB height, and chainstay length to the Bullit in Hi. Seat angle is slacker, reach is shorter, and stack is higher. I've been running mine with a 160 fork which is great for smoother flowy jump trails but have been thinking that a bit more travel would be nice on some of the steeper lines (it's pretty noticeable when I ride the same features on my Nomad).

That’s what I found with my eBay order from Italy. Less expensive than the local shops I also had a back order with. They shipped FedEx which was really fast

Also got mine yesterday from Bosch Kiox 400C Display Smart System
They are available at the moment.
It makes this bike complete finally :)

I've have also installed kashima decals to match the rest of the bike a little bit better i guess. What do you think?

Like the decals. Looks like you have a Ride Wrap also. I contacted them today to let them know they need to change their pattern around the top tube cutout with the Kiox

Decals are custom made with great local rider who cuts it to size with machine. He is truly amazing at his job.

The other kashima decals are Slick Graphics.

Sweet ride! I see you have an xx chainring.
I just ordered one too for my vala. Is yours 34 or 36 t?
I wasn’t able to find 34t anywhere so I ordered a 36t

eBike24 sent me a note saying they are shipping my display with UPS instead of DHL because of issues they've had since the display has a battery in it. I'll update once I get it on what, if any, import duties I end up getting stuck with.

Did anyone in between sizes decide to go with the bigger size? I am 5'8.5" so Im really borderline M/L. I demoed a large and the reach felt good, but it did feel a little less agile. Might be something to get used to.

I'm 5'8" and no way I'd size up to a large.

Further update: UPS hit me with a $184 ($170!!! in tariffs & $14 in brokerage fees) customs fee. I went ahead and paid it because I knew I was taking a risk ordering from oversees, but goddamn that's insane. Would not recommend doing that. Thanks Donald...

I was expecting 15% and have asked UPS for a copy of the declaration from the shipper to see if the charges were calculated incorrectly.

edit: the country of origin is CN and not DE so the rate should be 55%?
