Not only have I done it multiple times since 2006 ..but I was the original author of the full Bolts Law route which I sent to Tom Hutton ( routes editor at the time ) at MBR magazine ..even got the tiniest of mentions in the magazine ..??There's a cracking long descent near Edmundbyers we've done a couple of times, well worth hunting down if you haven't already done it

Swift 21 mile outing this afternoon, did a circular route into my local woods and looped down to the river Tyne via Derwent Walk near Gibside then across to Wylam and back up the hill through Crawcrook.
It's a main cycle route but absolutely chocka with familes and dog walkers, I think I need to invest in a bell

That seven person zip wire looks fun ....
The guy on the paddle board looks like he's first trying to use the paddle as a sail. Then finding this doesn't work, is praying for more wind ?

My home, Helmsley in North Yorkshire has close ties and fond memories of the Canadians stationed here during WW2
They operated out of nearby RAF Wombleton, which was a sub-base to RAF Topcliffe for No.6 Group RCAF flying Halifax, Wellingtons and Lancasters. I ride by this memorial at the entrance to the former base most road rides and always pay my respects to their contribution and sacrifice.

I once turned up in Brittany with the family, dumped the sailboard under the caravan and drove straight to the beach with the wife and 2 kids. There was a sailboarder just beyond the waves scudding back and forth. As soon as he saw us he came tearing up to the beach and did his hero beach landing. (He obviously wanted an adoring audience). He spoke no English and I didn't have too many words in French. I asked what brand his sailboard was and he thought I was asking what it was. So what was on his mind when he offered the board to me to have a go? To my mind he wanted the Brit to take a ducking. I was in jeans and trainers etc, I even had sunglasses and hat on! (It was the early 80's). I jumped on caught the wind, powered straight off through the waves and was all set to sail into the sunset. But them Mr Sensible came to call and I turned around and sailed back in. I did a perfect hero beaching and trotted off the board without even getting my feet wet! I handed him the rig and the guy was speechless. I contented myself with a muttered "Merci beaucoup, Rule Brittania!" and walked off to join the family

If you mean a top hat, Isambard Kingdom Brunell posed in a famous photo in front of the SS.Great Britain. The top hat he was wearing was apparently reinforced to form an early version of the modern safety helmet, so one of those would be ideal for your cyclist.
I heard it was an absolutely electrifying ride.

Every bike needs a bell! However it really helps if the other trail users understands what it means.....I was riding in a known to be cycling friendly town a few weeks ago on their MUP system and it was the first time I had thought that the people were savvy and would move to the right and not even look back when I (always) used it.
The area I live isn't quite as astute and folks are apt to either ignore it, jump to the left or hurry up and put on their mask whilst standing clustered in the middle of the double track. The area is not well attended so it's not too much of a pain and I just expect the worst and act accordingly.
Slightly too late to the party there Nicho...a very similar response has been made further up the page by let me see ...oh yeah ..it was me !?

Where gravel comes from
There are at least 4 gravel pits across the road from me and I call this ride the Pit Loop.
Don't get too upset about the elevation....but it is at least half that according to my other device
