I never got the need for 2-wheel power. I went in a different direction. From 1977 to 1986, this was my passion.
Steve - this is the "when I was a teenager thread" .. in 1977-1986 your kids were probably teenagers !!! :)

Don't you have any Stone etchings from when you were young ?

Plenty of room in the back though

So weird ... as I scrolled down I expected it to be a reliant robin ..... :) Don't say things like that @BAMBAMODA will fill the thread full of condom sponsorship paperwork.

I did manage to hold onto this though. 400cc, single cylinder, 2 stroke. Ridiculous.

F. Nuts ! When I was 12 my uncle, who had a bike shop, brought me a 50cc yamaha trials bike .. strapped to the back/roof of his MGB on a blanket ... Possibly the coolest person I've ever known. Unfortunately my mother banned me from riding it straight away, so she rode it and crashed. Then I was allowed to ride pillion behind a neighbour - who trashed us into a barbed wire fence and cut the crap out of me. Thank god it wasn't the Warwickbiggusdickus400 ! (I can get you the label made up for that if it helps ...)

Yeah, I know. But I felt like a teenager, does that count?
All I did when I was a teenager was swim, fish, or ice-skate.
I only gave away the fishing tackle earlier this year and I still have the ice-boots (you never know when global warming will take a pause). But the swimming trunks are long gone, rotted away probably.

It sounds a bit more like you were a seal in your earlier years ?

Or maybe a penguin ?
When I was at school, we all had to alternate between swimming and the ball game of the season (football, rugby, cricket). I was crap at ball games, so I swapped names with other lads who hated swimming. The sports staff taking the names turned a blind eye so we all got better at our chosen sport. I was in the school swimming team as a consequence. I used to be in the water five times/week. I believe that was why I never suffered from acne, all that chlorinated water dried out and sterilised my skin.

This is my first car - it was a nice day so we decided to make it into a convertible. I actually used it for a couple of weeks like this.

And one for steve.....what happens when a swing set, old bike, windsurfer and angle grinder meet.... She has been sailing since 6 weeks old.

When I was at college some of the Agri Engineering students did that to an old Vauxhall hatchback. Then they welded the doors shut to stop it flexing! It lasted about a week before plod came and towed it away. :ROFLMAO:

Here's one of my many many VW's but this one was my "Fave" it was fast (ish) reliable and was super trick with a pukka sound system.
the 90's were rad man.
*** Edit *** Its a 1969 VW fastback type 3, de seamed, de guttered and smoothed over, lowered 3" one piece tinted windows.

My first car was a Renault 6. It was so bad, it never occurred to me to take a picture of it.

The Renault 5 GT Turbo was the car we all drooled over as teenagers. Then the Peugeot 106 GTi came along, just wow

After my MKII Escort vanished (long story), I acquired a 2CV. Loved it. I also don’t have any photos of that car (only had the disposable cardboard / plastic single use cameras) but I’ll leave it to your imagination. I’d grown dreadlocks by the time I had that car 🤪

My 3rd car was a green '71 Fastback that I shoehorned a T4 1800 with twin DCNF carbs into. Great on the straights but corners concentrated the mind. Unfortunately the glasspack exhaust used to attract rather too much attention from the neighbours and then the local plod.

I managed to crash my 1st car a 67 6v Beetle while I was still on L plates and my second car a T3 Variant self-ignited on a night trip to Wales after I'd improved fucked up the heating system cold air pipes....

We used to drive such shitheaps back then and the jobs to keep them going that we completed on a parent's driveway or at the kerbside were part of the deal. In no particular order some that spring to mind are; a Marina gearbox swapped as it was getting dark using just axle stands and us sliding around underneath the car, a Maxi clutch changed before a trip to the coast and various jobs to keep a friend's Mini alive.

These days just checking the screenwash seems a chore!

This was running on a set of twin 40's and a "tweaked" 1600 engine, lightenend fly wheel (made it horrible at idle) yeah corners were not its strong point lol. I had a glass pack too, quieter than the beetle I had with a Zoom tube that used to set off car alarms on over run lol.
I have two girls, not interested in cars at all, one wants a camper though, so thats something.

If I recall correctly ..fantastic in a straight line ( relatively speaking) ..terrific on corners too ..if you liked seeing hedgerows up close ..

Never had the pleasure of driving a GT Turbo so I wouldn’t know. The MKII Escort however, that was a beast to drive. Learned hand brake turns, drifting and doughnuts in that car

Now then, as we’re talking classic cars and teenage years, and I’ve previously mentioned my MkII Escort Rave Mobile on another thread, suppose it’d be rude not to share this photo (can’t believe I’m doing this!!)

Note the tiger skin (fake obviously) seats, posh leather steering wheel and my piece da resistance was the pig air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror, complete with proper bobby 👮‍♀️ helmet. For some reason I was always being pulled over by the police when driving my rave car. Of course I had the boot full of bass speakers playing classics such as LFO’s LFO
You had an 808 in the registration too - was this deliberate (I really hope so).

Well spotted. It wasn’t a private plate, but I had a choice between a Vauxhall Viva, Lada Riva, or the MKII. The 808 reg on the Escort was the usp that the other cars didn’t have. From memory the Escort was a whopping £50 more too!

I used to say my name was Alex (to fit the plate) if people asked me about it 😆

Imagine the plate was ROL 808S, it’d be worth a fortune now!
