There is plenty of bedtime reading here.

If you have it set 10/10 then surely you aren't getting the full 115W of assistance on the flat while casually pedaling? With the ease setting so low I would expect you are only getting a portion of that and only getting the full 115w when cranking hard.

Either way I think your complaint is a pretty niche viewpoint among most emtb riders. Maybe a TQ powered bike would be more suitable for your use.
Ok, might need to correct myself here a little. Specialized has a table that shows rider input required to get the max assistance at each increment. It applies to microtune but I assume it the same for the regular Eco/Trail/Turbo modes also.

Looks like 44w/48w of rider input will get you max assistance at 10/10 which would be an additional 66w/72w from the motor.

So interesting to have a "too much power" problem. Why not a lower 0/5 setting (between OFF and 10/10) just curious.

Even if the motor output on flats is not full 115W, and let's assume it is lower say 60-100 W, sometimes on flats that is all you may need. Very little watts is needed once you crest the hill and go flat. Naturally on the 10/10 setting I would expect the motor will lower it's assistance way more that what is does and that rider's effort feels similar as if going uphill; meaning rider doing 90% and motor doing 10%.
Because since the bike's assistance on the flats is so high, one immediately has to start braking in terrain when riding singletrack.
(And yes, I am coming to conclusion that TQ HRP60 would likely work better for me, motor wise, at least on singletrack. But Levo Gen4 has great geometry and I really like to have the 28mph limit for road sections and already own it).

That’s a great idea! I, like many others, really want that too, but Specialized currently locks the system at a minimum of 10/10. My dream would be to have a 5% Assist setting that I could choose as “ease,” and then pick a number for Max Power. Even better would be a slider or micro-tune between 0% and 10% ease.

What I really want is to ride with a motor-to-leg power ratio of around 1-1.2, so the motor supports me gradually—not too strong on flats and not too weak on climbs.

It really depends on what you want to do with the bike.
  • If you're sticking to bike paths, the power Levo offers is more than enough.
  • If you want to reach the top quickly just to have fun on the downhill, it's also fine.
  • But if you're doing long alpine all-mountain rides, this isn’t a niche issue at all. It’s exactly for that kind of riding that many of us chose the Levo.
I hope Specialized understands that this request isn't just coming from one or two riders—it’s a real need for a lot of riders who do extended alpine and all-mountain trips. Hopefully Specialized sees this feedback and gives us finer control in the next software update! I think that software change would be really simple for Specialized to implement.

That’s were the AMflow really shines been up in the Welsh mountains yesterday, you can really micro tune the settings. Also the smooth shift is a complete revolution it’s effortless and really impressive the way it goes up and down the gears on the technical hills parts.

I am installing a wireless dropper but will be reinstalling the cable one when I eventually sell it.

Question
Does the motor need to be dropped to install a new dropper cable? On my G3 it had cable tubes, but I cant see any on the G4.
Yes. motor has to be dropped to install a dropper cable. You cannot route the cable up to the dropper with the motor in place. I installed a Oneup 240 :)

I need the Y-Splitter to connect the front light but today it's impossible to buy it in europe but will maybe be available end of december according to ride care though there is lots of them in USA but Specialized protects their regions so they don't ship outside USA.
Warranty support is excellent but this sucks big time.

How bad do you want one?

I just found the following information and thought it might be of interest to some of you:

At least Specialized explains here that a certain amount of clattering during descending is normal and increases over the lifetime. But it remains quite subjective; some people notice it more, some don't mind it at all, or some are insensitive to it.
The rattling when reversing (I've posted something to this topic already) is also mentioned and explained, even with example videos 😅

I personally think that Specialized's open and transparent way of explaining and disclosing such effects is a good thing, in contrast to some other manufacturers who vehemently deny certain things, do not want to accept them, or do not even take a position if they are asked.

Ok, so they admit the motor will have clattering/clunking noises under different scenarios. So it's normal. Now what ?

Worry less, ride more :-) Enjoy feeling SuperNatural.

I was so glad I got a chance to test a Levo 4 S-works for a couple of days. Bike itself is nice, feels good, nothing really bad to report here.
I could complain about extra weight, about a beefy downtube, about the battery door that will squeak and easily let the dust in , but I won't. I was more interested on how the electric assist feels. After all it's an eMTB, electric system integration with the rest of the bike and the rider it's paramount, for me.

Regarding the motor, Levo 4 is surely a step down from previous generations in terms of smoothness in power delivery, noise, support at high cadence. First minutes of Levo 4 assist reminded me of PW-X3 feel especially when on low gears and high cadence. What a disappointment, that I didn't expect that from Specialized. No dynamic micro tune or other firmware tweaks will really change that.
"It's only you, only faster" is not levo 4's thing. Now it's in Bosch territory...or Yamaha. A bit of clunk (it's normal all do that :D), a bit of gear whine and high torque at low cadence (it seems that's what most want these days).

These are my first thoughts about their new motor maybe with a bit of emotional tone.

An evolution from 3rd gen is the fact that now it has a dedicated charging port. It took them some time. Also the battery seems to have a more solid construction and with better water proofing. But energy density wise, nothing revolutionary.

Mastermind T3:
Decent display but the shape/size resemble more like a handle bar display for road bikes than a top tube eMTB HMI/display. It has a flimsy construction/mounting system and will let liquids/dust/mud get inside the top tube. You can easily slide it a bit in every direction with your hand, no gasket between the frame and the display. You can remove it from the bike with your fingers, in fact this is the official procedure. No tools involved, Yay. It feels cheap but I know it isn't :)

From the official document/link posted above :

Gearbox clatter when descending : A gearbox design with SPUR gears always require a small amount of play.....

Fact: Specialized/Brose 3.1/doesn't have spur gears in the internal transmission, just helical.
Fact: Helical gears also require a small amount of play.

The rest of it describes what is happening in different scenarios with plenty of details. Especially when turning the bike backwards, slowly. But this noise is dependent of gearbox/reduction design.Belt /planetary gear combo would have better noise characteristics here because of lower overall backlash and no metal to metal gear contact.

After enjoying the Gen3 Expert and now switching to the Gen4 S-Works... I'm amazed by your comment regarding the new engine's performance. The 3.1 is much smoother, smoother, has better traction than ever, and is virtually frictionless. I honestly see it as a huge step forward compared to the Brose Mag.

Regarding the new screen, I can only say the same... amount of information, size, resolution, and visibility... radical improvement.

I guess it's all about convincing yourself that you don't need to change bikes just yet; it's human!

I'll try the Levo 4 for the first time in early May.

Have you played with the engine settings?
There is a Huge difference between "acceleration" set in low and in high.

I am a racer guy and i love power stage 😜, and i didn't feel any weackness of the engine 🤷‍♂️
I went from a boch race gen 4 and i mostly ride with friend with gen 5 100nm and my SW is far better in grip at low cadence in technical climb section.

Sor far it is the best motor i have owned

and will let liquids/dust/mud get inside the top tube
Maybe something is wrong with the gasket.
battery door that will squeak and easily let the dust in
Did you get a lot of dust inside because I got nothing after 2500km and the door is removed every time I charge.
no gasket between the frame and the display
I agree T3 is a bit flimsy and some are easy to move around other not so I would like it to be attached in a different way because when I tried to remove the display which is supposed to be done by moving it downwards it was very tight and the gasket between the display and frame got damaged, it looked like it was glued on to the display frame and the glue didn't hold it together good enough.
LBS didn't want to try to glue it back insted I got a new display but I wouldn't be surprised if it happen again.

There's still plenty of room to upgrade components to make it super, duper special but if you got the money, more power to you.

This is a special edition with Titanium Crank, special fork, etc., so it's a premiuim price, so, it you got the cash, and want the best, then go for it!!
Exactly then the price did not go up and no I'm broke.
