Reign E+ 2022

Read something about water ingress on the reigns. Similar to tsu on specialized? Can someone explain it and how best to avoid it?

I'm not sure what is tsu on specialized. For the 2022 Giant Reign E+, it's just water ingress in the battery compartment, which IMO shouldn't actually affect the battery's ability to perform. Nonetheless, people are cautious about it and have done a very minor mod to seal it up, which is definitely worth if it you ride in the wet. The mod is done by placing 3m tapes along the edges of the battery compartment as shown in the following post:


Water ingress in the motor was a more serious issue in older Giant bikes that has long been fixed.

Yeah. I'm no electrical engineer, but I feel like that area is not as susceptible to water failure as the ride control unit.

In fact, Giant's website has a how-to video where a guy hoses down the battery compartment and the battery itself. I do this with my bike from time to time as well.

That motor warranty seems too leaky to name it a warranty. It seems like there is a way to void the warranty that covers most situations. The value of that warranty for giant is if people only read the headlines, not the detail. I'd rather have a 2 year warranty that is real.

In all seriousness, my LBS has been pretty good with taking care of any issues that have presented themselves with my '19 Trance E. I sincerely believe that their warranty policy is not a bait n' switch sort of a deal.
 
I was finding the 38s to be a bit harsh and after reading a few comments on here decided to check how many tokens are installed. And yep there was three. Riding at windhill bike a park tomorrow so going to drop to 1 token, hopefully that solves the problem. 🤞

I also have removed 3 of the tokens and it still felt harsh. So I borrowed a ShockWiz from a friend. To calibrate the ShockWiz you have to let all of the air out of your fork and then pull it up to full travel. When I tried this it wouldn’t pull up, like it was sucked down.
I took it into my lbs and they contacted the Fox service agent in NZ. Initially they said there wasn’t a problem and I hadn’t set the shock up properly.
When we persisted then they told the service tech at the lbs to let all of the air out while using a block between the crown and steerer to hold it at full travel, then pump to up to usable travel and then hold the fork down to equalise it. This seemed to work but after one run it was sucking back into its travel again and when I emptied the air out it it pulled the fork down tight again.
Now they have said that there is obviously too much grease in the negative chamber and it’s not allowing the fork to equalise properly.
They are going to service it under warranty.
It maybe worth checking if your fork is doing the same thing. Empty all the air out and if you can’t pull the fork up to full travel there is a problem.

Don't Fox 38s have a bleed valve on the lowers? I thought the whole point of them was to equalize pressure. Or maybe the grease quantity is in such excess that it is physically incapable of doing so?
 
The valves at the castjng are not connected to the internal air chamber. They are only usefull to equalize pressure inside the casting easily.

Was checking the wheelbase of my bike to compare to my Amish bike and just noticed the price just went up E+1 $300 $8199 -> $8499 CDN. Anyone else notice it on your countries website from what you paid?

It was 75000 sek in Sweden. In December it was increased to 78300 sek. I paid 65k+5k of store stuff. So they do have wiggle room.
 
To all the suspension geeks out there a bit of advice. I have a transition patrol with a trunk on mount coil which is 205mm x 60mm. The giant reign is 205mm x 62.5 mm. Would the coil from my patrol fit on my giant? Thanks for any help.
For sure it will fit. But you will limit the travel to ~154mm

Indeed. But if it's a RockShox, there's just a plastic spacer below the bottom out bumper that you can remove. It is probably a 5mm spacer or two 2.5mm spacers. If it's a 5mm spacer and you remove it, you may be able to run 65mm stroke, which would increase travel ~6mm. That's what I'm running on my non-E Reign and will be doing with the Reign E+ once I get it, assuming there's enough clearance in the frame during full bottom out.

My understanding is that the 60, 62.5, and 65mm RockShox shocks are all the same thing, just with travel reduced via external spacers. I could be wrong, but I think Fox is the same way, but with internal spacers.

Hopefully I can cope with a few mm less 🤣🤣

@jasperofpuppets I’m running a ohlins ttx22m on my other bike so not sure about the spacer I’ll have to take a look. The only thing I’m thinking is I’ll need to run a firmer spring due to the differences in weight. I’ll speak to the shock supplier tomorrow as they can tell you depending on bike and rider weight. Thanks for the advice. 👌
 
@Rob Rides EMTB are you going to be doing any more videos at ebike races, the last one you did was a real old watch and something a bit different. Mini enduro are holding a race at bike park Wales in March and the ebike categories are determined by riders weight rather than by age 😘

Hey everyone.

Did my second ride today.

Reign E +1 625Wh All Stock

1.49h
Average speed was 15,6km/h
95% Mode 1, 5% Mode 2
28,43 km
715m altitude gain
33% battery consumption(71% >>> 38%)
1st battery charge
Temperature 6°C

Today's ride was with a buddy that has the previous Reign with the PW-X 2 with a 500Wh battery and has a speed box(unlimited speed) in it. So he did 27,8km basically the same as me and for most of the ride used mode 1 except for the last 20min he used 3 and 4 for a fast getting home(at 44km/h). He burned 48% of the battery. The extra battery consumption is due to the speed box, otherwise it would be about the same...as he says if he pedals the same up to 25km/h the consumption is no higher.

So if we do a little calculating...theoretically with a fully charged battery in mode 1 it would be possible to do a 86km and 2166m vertical tour ride with the new Reign. Possibly a bit more in warmer temperatures. I will do more similar tests in other modes if I don't return the bike.

Also did check, did a video on motor/frame resonance noise issue I already mentioned before in this forum. After tightening the battery and cover it didn't get any better.

After constant climbing for about a half an hour it did quiet down a little bit, as if when the motor got warmer it was better.
But then again after descending and cooling it down it came back again...
It present mostly in the upper part of the cassette when pedaling/motor working. When I stop pedaling/motor stops running it goes away.
Also I noticed that the noise dimms a bit for a moment when going over curbs etc...

It doesn't affect the motor performance in any way, as the motor is really quiet, this noise makes unbearable for the ears...

Does anyone have the same issue?

What do you think should I go to Giant LBS with it?

I tested the ANT+ sensors Cadence,Speed Power on my Garmin Fenix 6X. Worked beautifully.
Average input power across all the ride was 62W.
Max average input power(20min) was 118W.
Average cadence was 59 rotations/min
Max cadence was 137 rotations/min
Didn't really check the speed.

I could easily maintain 26km/h without motor assistance...there is basically very little internal drag.

Mine E+0 does the same sound when it decouples. If there is load on the pedals it went quiet . Also my Motor Motor became much more quiet after 500km regarding the wining noise. now it is very quiet. But this decoupling sound is a little bit annoying . Please keep us informed what your LBS says.

My motor has 55km so far(2rides).

Was your motor silent(no noise) under load from day one?

Mine has this noise when it is under load, but it stops when it decouples, so just the opposite of yours.

I can confirm though that I already did hear a significant positive difference in the second ride about the whining sound.

I have a 220 on the front. Working fine. Didn’t give me the insane stopping power that I craved but I still went an got one for the rear, just not got round to fitting it yet. XT calipers
 
anyone in here put a coil shock on the bike? i have no complaints about the x2, but i do love a coil shock. the sensitivity and liveliness is unmatched, and you never have to faff with air pressures as they change with temps and time.
I have team edition dhx2 and 400lb spring. I'm 82 kilos with nothing on.
I could have gone bigger like 425. It only bottoms out on very large stepdowns and gaps though and not harshly. Fox spring calculator seems bit light.

The wining sound was much louder. I do have decoupling under load but only on flat and low gear. If i give more load on the pedals it disappears
