I have spoken to a guy called Duncan from Specialized UK in the last week about firmware up-dates & he has told me no bike shop should be charging for firmware updates (UK). it may pay if everyone rings Specialized UK if there bike shop where they brought there levo or kenevo trys to charge them....they are really concerned at Spesh UK about this problem so hopefully things may change
I spoke to a guy called Andrew from Specialized UK and he emailed me stating that shops will charge. He did state that specialized are associated with Concept stores and if you buy your bike from a concept store, and take it back to that concept store, then that store "may" not charge you for their time, but also, they "may".
He did state however, that all bikes shops are fully entitled for charging customers for the "time" that a member of staff takes to perform the upgrade, but they can not charge for the upgrade it's self.
So you will be paying around £10/£30 depending on your location as some shops charge less for their staff time. My local bike shop (which is a specialised authorised dealership) charge £60 per hour for any work performed on a bike that wasn't purchased directly from them (and charge in 30minute increments) and around £40 for those who did (who are out of warranty etc) so the cheapest I can upgrade my FW would have been £30
So while the shops (that are specialised authorised dealerships) are charging customers, they are not charging for the update directly, they are charging you for their time in doing it. Which is total bullshit in reality.
For what it's worth, I returned my Turbo Levo Carbon Comp and got a full refund and won't be shopping with specialized again. It's been a disgusting experience from beginning to end and considering I spent £4999 on a bike an around £900 on accessories. To be told shit like like this, I just can't invest into the eco system. It's not for me as I don't condone treatment like this, business models like this so I left. I'm also not the type of person who validates and enables this type of cuckery. I do understand that some people don't mind getting cucked etc but it's not me for, I'm more traditional.
I'm now looking at some other manufactures and emailing them with these questions directly.
I have collated a list of questions (18 in total) that I am sending to all the manufactures which I will Be posting on my Facebook page and Reddit showing their responses.
Most so far have stated what you would expect free updates and free warranty support etc. along with support for 3rd party apps etc.
All EXCEPT specialized!
They stated that shops (including all authorised retailers) can charge for their time to do the upgrade which can be in excess of £60 in some cases, Shops can also charge for time spent fixing a warranty issue that is at no fault to/by the User even if the store fixing it, is an authorised specialised dealership (SCS) where you purchased the bike from.
Shops can also charge for time taken to replace or repair warranty replacements of items that were faulty or failed their intended purpose or had a structural failure etc. And while specialised will replace the item she they WONT always pay the shop for their time to install it So the user would pay this charge or the authorised dealer would float it.
Other manufactures replied saying that they will refund the user or will pay the store directly, if the store state that a charge will be incurred to the user.
It's utterly disgusting how specialzied are treating their customers considering the expense of these items. I have emailed 3 companies so far (plus specialised) and they are the ONLY ones willing to screw their customers over in these cases presented above.
I've seen some awful, disrespectful customer service in my time. But ive never witnessed this, or even a customer base defending it like villho etc.? But I understand that that not all people react the same in some situations, some like to be dominated, humiliated etc and just blindly do whatever they are told, by whoever tells them, while others are more alpha/foreceful and have a higher standard for which how they expect to be treated. While I'm accepting of these differences, and I don't mock or have digs at those who enjoy being dominated, humiliated and are too scared to push back or just enjoy being a cuck or getting cucked etc, it seems they aren't so willing for others to have an opinion/view point that different, but betas will be betas.
So I returned my bike, got a full refund and, began a dialog with more manufactures and will make a more informed decision in the coming weeks of who to spend my money with.
Great bikes, from a company with the most abhorrent and disgusting morals I've seen in a long time.
All this will Be posted in r/ebikes along with the all the emails / email info names etc. from each manufacture. Specializeds if a fucking embarrassments thus far!
I literally can't believe what they have the balls to say/do/write in their emails.
