Ebike Garmin apps ~ UPDATE: new multi battery support

I added the sensor for the Garmin remote after it started to work. Is that sensor preventing the Garmin from displaying the battery and assistance level properly?
No. I use a Garmin remote with Edge 1030 since ever and Ebike app works fine nevertheless.
I suggest to go to setup of Ebike IQ-app, type in „0“ (zero) in line of ID number - that deselects your Levo. Then turn off your Edge completely and let it boot.
Then connect your Levo anew.

I will give that a shot. Thanks. I have typed in “0” several times but I haven’t done it after installing the remote. It seems like the other sensors are working as I am getting the speed but just not the battery/ and level assist.

@AML I am sorry, I already lost track what you already done or what not as I have lots of emails here and you are writing both there and to emails.

So lets repeat the basic rule:
Just make sure
1) you don't have connected ebike via Ebike Sensor Settings menu (if supported by your Garmin)
2) you don't have installed also Specialized Datafield together with Ebike Field..
3) to be sure, you don't have paired other battery - add 0 to first app setting field (Changing Your App Settings in Garmin Express/GCM/CIQ Mobile Store - Wiki - Connect IQ - Garmin Forums )

Then there is no reason for it to not connect to your bike if you renew pairing by adding 0 to first app setting field.

Like you both suggested I changed it back to 0 last night and it worked.

This morning I tried again and it was back to the same issue :(

I then put it back to 0 and it wouldn’t fix it this time and I don’t have any more time today to mess with it.

Jan I will say this isn’t your fault and I chalk it up to just lousy software from Garmin. Frustrating to say the least. I am taking the bike on vacation the next couple weeks so I will play with it some more then.

When setting up the e bike field on my Garmin Edge Explore how do i get it to display the e bike data like this?

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="" title="data field"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48288742591_e1dab33181_m.jpg" width="163" height="122" alt="data field"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Every time i try i cant get it the same as the pic

@escrs Hi, check layout settings for activity screen. It may be possible, that some Edge devices doesn't have layouts like this though.

I can get the layout the same including the e bike bit

I cant get it to show the battery as a percentage and the mode im in like the pic above, at best the modes appear as numbers

@escrs how the Ebike Field renders data is configurable in its settings via Garmin Connect. Please make sure you have there selected "Battery level + Assist Mode description"

Another question

One of the data fields says travel range, yet when my Garmin is connected to the bike it dosent display the travel range, ive also have a trailwatts extender fitted so dont know if that would affect it?

Same issues here. Very annoying. Seems like a garmin issue because when ebike field doesn't work my tyrewiz data field doesn't work either.

@escrs This datafield is not provided by me. If you have such datafield in your Garmin and want to use it, you will propably need to connect your bike via Sensor settings, but that blocks connectivity for Ebike Field apps.

@oripaamoni @AML can you guys please confirm that you don't have your bike connected also via native Sensors settings as Ebike sensor? But if also tyrewiz datafield is failing at the same time that seems to be indeed just another issue on Garmin side. :( What devices do you have?
Honestly, I don't know what to think about Garmin folks anymore. With current issue in newest Garmin Connect they completely broken tens of apps in Connect IQ Store (including my other even bigger project), its for more than month already and they still don't know at all when it will be fixed. So not much to trust in their software solutions...

On my 2019 Levo with uptodate TCU firmware I can connect rider-power from Levo as a „normal“ power sensor and ebike field from J. Capek still works!

@McInner1 yes, this is no problem. Ebike Field is blocked only if you pair bike as Ebike sensor - which supports newer Garmin devices. Pairing power meter or speed/cadence sensor does not affect Ebike Field app. :)

Thanks JanCapek

Is this something you could add to the e-bike field?

Would be handy to have an estimated travel range data field

Hello,

as I also ride Turbo Levo and likes to ride with my Garmin instead of smartphone, I developed applications specifically for ebikes which communicates via ANT+ connectivity (which all Turbo Levos supports) without need to be setting up any fake-channel. So, in case somebody is interested in similar setup, here are they:

Ebike Field behave like simple datafield which you can configure to your preferred screen layout. It can show both battery level and current assist mode and it supports wide range of Garmin devices (EDGE and watches). You can even configure what and how it should be shown on screen. Additionally it support to render graphs of battery state and used assist mode during whole activity to Garmin Connect, which is perfect for evaluating your battery consumption. Version 2.0 changelog with multi battery/bike pairing feature.

Ebike Field "Nerd Style" does the same as first app but is specifically for watches and tries to maximize number of information on watch screen while remaining usable. It is even able to remind you in case you are off your preloaded route/course and you can reconfigure shown metrics on screen in app settings via Garmin Connect Mobile app.

Ebike Diagnostics is app with ability to read lots of useful information from bike and is even able to change bike wheel circumference. Unfortunately, no full support for new 2019 FSR Levo. This app is only for my donators.

More detailed description of all applications can be found under provided links on Garmin Connect IQ app store. More interesting features are on the way. Enjoy and let me know your thoughts!

Update: 2.0 with multi bike/battery support and more: Ebike Garmin apps ~ UPDATE: new multi battery support - EMTB Forums
downloaded yesterday, great little app, many thanks.

Hi. 2019 levo. After what I presume is relatively simple advice. Just wondering if with an edge 830 I can
1. Have specialized set the wheel circumference to 2000 (27.5 wheels) while keeping the 29 wheels on and use the garmin speed sensor to get an accurate speed reading?
2. Have trail forks maps visable with speed, distance travelled and battery % visable on the same page?
Cheers

1. You should be able to set the wheel size in a Garmin unit manually or automatic.
2. I don’t know what you mean with “Trailforks map”? But you can have the map and data fields at the same time.

@escrs That is because ANT+ LEV connectivity have optional way how to transfer remaining range from bike to Garmin. But Specialized don't populate this data in their bikes. Provided data is not even sufficient to calculate this on my side. I considered to try to implement algorithm which will estimate range from already driven distance vs battery decrease, but I didn't yet spend time on it as result will be compromised anyway because of limitation on Garmin side (UI).

Hello, I just got my Levo on Saturday and wanted to use your Ebike Datafield (Nerd Style) on my Garmin Fenix 5x plus, but I get an "unsupported layout" error. The normal Ebikefield works.
The Watch firmware is 8.40. Any help would be appreciated.

I sorted this one out myself by changing the background color back to white! Now works as it should. Keep up the great work! Will donate to maybe see black background support ;)

Hi guys,

just small details from Garmin software world...

1) As it turned out, both Edge 530 and 830 suffer from ability to connect to ANT+ via Connect IQ apps if it was restarted.. It seems that this bug is on these devices from very beginning and is reason of some your problems. There is some workaround to make it work again: Swap the datafield to another one, restart the device, swap back, and start it. It should be working until restart of the device again.
More details here (in case you have account):
Edge530 datafield ANT communication not work after the device restart - Connect IQ Bug Reports - Connect IQ - Garmin Forums

2) EDGE 1030 with new 8.0 firmware is unable to connect to ebike too. Not sure yet if they just port there the same issue from lower models or it is unrelated. It was reported here:
8.0 Firmware bug - Edge can't connect to ANT+ LEV - Edge 1030 - Cycling - Garmin Forums

We can only wish that Garmin finally learn how to do and test their software...

Hello Jan,
any plans bringing Ebike Field - Nerd Style to Fenix 6 series? I really like this one on Fenix 5X, but now realized it doesn't work on 6X :(

@salko Hi, Nerd Style version might not find its way to Fenix 6 devices because of some limitations of CIQ and because Fenix 6 natively supports more data on single screen already. So with using basic Ebike Field defafield - which is supported here - you can get similar results.

But I am still considering to create redesigned successor which will be much more universal and nicer.. No promises yet, though. :)

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to connect my garmin with my ebike bh with brose engine with the e-bike field app. Thank you

App does not work on Garmin Edge 1030 8.11B, which is required for the Edge to work with latest iOS.
Probably garmins fault since there are many apps broken.

I have no issues with my 1030 running latest Garmin sw apart from sometimes very slow to connect.

Hello guys,

Next week I'm picking up my new kenevo and I was wondering how to connect to my fenix 6.

If I understood correctly I can get battery and assistance mode from bike field .

What about cadence , motor power and rider power ?

The specialized app for IQ connect is not compatible with fenix 6 by the way ...

Thanks
