E bike for under £1000 ?

Hi my father is 72 and has decided he wants to give e biking a go. He doesn't want to spend anymore than £1000 and will only be used on roads. Any recommendations ?

Something like a decathlon est100 ? Think they're about 800 these days. There are also loads of none "MTB" e-bikes which are normally well priced.

I see you can either collect from store or pay extra for delivery with the decathlon bikes. Can anyone on here that has got one collected from a store tell me if it still comes in the box or is it built up in the store?
