Bosch Flow App not saving heart rate data

Flow app is reading my heart rate off my apple watch, and it shows up on my Kiox display. However when I complete a ride, I don't see any heart rate data saved in either the Flow app ride, nor is heart rate data uploaded to Strava (but everything else is, including cadence, etc). Am I missing a setting?

For what I saw the flow app stores power data in a non conformant way in it's .fit files. I tried to read them with few different tools like garmin, xert and others and a big part of the power output just seems missing.
Even reported it to bosch but w/o any reaction other than thank you for your email.
But I have not tried strava, maybe they implemented a workaround.

Bumping this up in case anyone has fresh hot tips. For those of us who use rider power and heart rate to track training efforts, this is quite an annoying gap.

Well that's incredibly dumb. Guess I'll ditch the flow app and just use Strava.
The kiox 300 only displays HR it doesn't record it. I just use Strava on my apple watch
Sigh.. if you’re using an Apple Watch, I‘ll assume you are also using an iPhone. The HR will be found in the Health and /or Fitness apps along with other metrics. You don’t need your iPhone with you. . I know the Apple Watch can track & record activity, via the Fitness app. I personally when using Fitness app concurrently with Flow, HR will only appear on my Apple Watch not simultaneously on Bosch display. I could be doing something wrong….

Yeah I am using an iPhone and can see the HR plot in Health / Fitness apps, but that's no more than a novelty for my use case. The fact I know it's there makes it all the more frustrating that the data doesn't travel seamlessly with FIT to other platforms (I use intervals.icu).

You’ll need a Bluetooth approved HR from Bosch lists if you want to track it. I haven’t done it yet because I don’t feel like purchasing a new HR monitor. I use Garmin HR/1030 and p2M cranks for the road.

The real issue here is not being able to sync Bosch to a Garmin 😔

For others navigating this I've resorted to recording with both the Flow app and the Garmin computer, then using the gotoes combiner to merge power / cadence data from Flow with GPS and HR from Garmin. The process is clunky but the tool is great.

Just figured that it isn't possible for the Flow app to add my HR monitor data when it uploads to Strava. Looks like it's a common issue. What woukd happen in Strava if I used the Strava app at the same time as flow app? Do I get 2 uploads of the same ride within Strava? Or does it combine the data?

You’d get a double upload.

This is quite frustrating considering the data is really useful from the flow app but HR is key to effort levels
Agreed. I have a $600 Garmin I can’t use when I’m on my e-MTB and I don’t feel like buying a Bosch approved HR monitor because I already have a Garmin one.

You can use the tool I linked to combine them, then delete the originals (still annoying, but it works).

Which list of approved monitors are you referring to? As far as I can tell, I have "Bosch approved" monitors that work fine with the Flow app, but the Flow app still doesn't export that data with the FIT / GPX file.

From the Bosch help site:
„The eBike Flow app supports the Apple Watch heart rate monitor and all heart rate monitors that use the official Heart Rate Profile 1.0, standardized according to Bluetooth®SIG.“
Source: Which heart rate monitors can I connect to my eBike?

From Garmin the HRM-Dual and the HRM Pro definitely work.

Again, can you define "work" here? For me: yes they work, with the Flow app. No they don't work getting the HR data exported off for other platforms.

I wasn’t aware that even with the approved HR straps the data doesn’t export. I know the Apple Watch doesn’t export the data.

Maybe you're right that the approved, non-Apple-watch straps do carry with exported data, I just can't tell if anyone has confirmed this vs quoting compatibility documentation. In my case I was assuming since AW was "supported," the behavior would be the same, but it does look like the pairing process is different (to the app vs to the bike).

edit: I confirmed today with a Polar OH1, the HR data doesn't make it off with the FIT file.

That is a known restriction Bosch has decided to implement and works as designed.

It is not that the HR data doesn’t export from the Flow app, the Flow app simply doesn’t record the HR data.
For HR data the Flow app basically acts as a transmitter in order to display HR on a Bosch display.

Why Bosch decided for this very basic approach is beyond me and probably anyone else.

I have decided to de-couple Flow and Strava and just use them as separate Apps. Strava will give me my HR info which is the most important to me, and I will pop in to the Flow app now and again for cadence etc. The feedback from the Bosch help desk was that there is no compatibility for HR data at the moment but they will suggest it as a build for the future
