Bafang m510

Hi everyone, I just bought a bafang M510 but I don't like the cap, I'm afraid that water and mud will get in. Is there a more precise and robust replacement cap? Link to buy it? Thank you

1200W electrical of DJI is remarkable. I wish Bafang will copy :) this HW gearing design - is best so far! Can be very reliable.
Difference is that Bafang can hold this peak for long. Bosh did overheat quite quick in a race (purely on Turbo) and did reduce power.

Possible to find power curves also for the rest of motors?

Had one M510 with older firmware (with greater overshooting) and was peaking 820W. ;) Bafang is measuring current quite precise, was comparing against smart BMS.

DJI Avinox has an amazing motor, in older firmware version you could set more than 25 km/h, unfortunately not in newer version. Also, it's not clear how it's going to be with this motor to rechip to higher speeds-for now it can't. The question is reliability and repairs in case of failure too.
Rob has been hill testing DJI-Bosch-Pinion motors. The DJI is a world apart in performance and time achieved.
E-bike motor manufacturers are careful to withhold power and peak power data, so it is difficult to get data to compare motor power.
Even though I mostly ride off-road, a motor with a max of 25km/hr would put me off.
For the Seroxat with Innotrace controller, I now have a Lekkie Pacemaker throttle (it has a blue Led) and according to the bench tests, it modulates power very well and starts from a standstill just fine. There was no need to add resistors and tweak the voltage. I added a switch to it-throttle use only on critical places+different throttle settings with X1-Tool for 5+5 levels. The standard Bafang thumb throttle or twist throttle is unusable for me , so hopefully this throttle from Lekkie will be just right.

1st one is CRX10N.510.FC 1.0 with software CRX10NC3619i101021.1
2nd one is CRX10N.510.FC 2.0 with software MMG522C3619F802028.1

the problem is that the software CRX10NC3619i101021.1 don't have "Assistance %" option like the software MMG522C3619F802028.1 ---> look fotos
is the only solution to replace the driver with version fc2.0? or can I update the software?

Motor efectivity-comparison: It is often mentioned in user reviews that the Bafang motor M510 is less efficient than Bosch 4Gen or Shimano EP801 motors - that is, it takes more Wh from the battery to achieve the same power during a ride.
The attached video compares several of the most used motors by Extreme range test climbing (same rider, same conditions, same heart rate,...). The M510 motor was placed in this efectivity comparison behind the Bosch CX Race motor, but ahead of the Brose S Mag or Shimano EP801 motor. The best are Specialized Turbo and Rocky Mountain Dyname 4.0 and DJI Avinox.
Note: Not much details on the methodology, but I wonder how they made the calculation of the power consumed by the M510 motor, where the percentage of battery capacity on display is a very inaccurate. Unless you recharge again to full battery capacity with a charger with a wattmeter included.

Sure but I saw somewhere that the newer firmwares/controllers of m510 have disabled the throttle so basically you can't use it no matter if you get the cable..

Personally i never heard that :giggle:. With the M820 yes, we can't use throttle. but in waiting of return of someone (several) who can't really use throttle on is M510, i will said that it"s possible.

So basically every M510 with every firmware and controller can use throttle. The only thing needed is the cable I mentioned and the throttle itself of course. If this is true...that would be wonderful 🎉🎉

A year ago I bought a spare controller for M510 at GBK and there were possibilities this time :V1 with throttle or V2 without throttle-I bought V2 without throttle.

Can anyone explain how the eu 250w rule works?

All these motors make way more power for a decent length of time but a m560 isn’t allowed?

I've seen a few different explanations on here, long and short of it is that the 250w thing is a very vague guideline and something measured over time. It's not a hard limit in any way on peak output power, but more a measure of average power delivered over some period of time. It was a weird enough process that I honestly don't even know why they bother with the regulation in its current form. They might as well switch to a peak power output limit and make it more realistic to match what's out there in the market.
 
Yep, it is defined something like average power in last 30 min can not be more then 250W.

I am asking the same, if DJI is legal (has 1000W peak on a rear wheel) then also M560 with speed limit 25kmh could be legal.
 
I dont see the power output makes any difference if speed is limited to say 15.5 mph what difference does power out make?

Indeed it makes. Acceleration up to 25kmh. You can not have 100kW motor, limited to 25kmh and pretend all is ok. ;))
 
250w or 500w cuts off at 15.5mph whats the difference except you might hit 15.5mph going up hill!!

They just had this vote on increasing motor power to 500w it was kicked out by vote but no real reasons were given except by people who have no clue what an ebike is and does or people in the trade with a vested interest and a warehouses full of 250w motors

Thats why we buy and build bikes with Bafang motors. EU sadly is already very behind in terms of new technologies... (And keep digging lower )...I would have happily bought a bike with Bosch if it was restricted to 32 km/h ... But we have already seen on many occasions with strange policies and regulations how EU tends to kills it's economy on its own. Sad.

I am not sure if their tests are objective....
 
Looks like my drive side bearing has failed again after the UK winters of mud and slop and ice and grit ( this is not unique to the M510 as all the Bosch riders I ride with are having the same issues ). The seals look like they are just not man enough to prevent wearing in the abrasive muck it is running in, eventually letting in water and corrosion which kills the bearing. Left to the lack of maintenance extreme and water will enter the engine.

Has anyone come up with an alternative bearing as the bearings can only be bought via Aliexpress or through a Chinese agent like Chilli Shen. I'm not actually sure the bearing is the problem as any make of bearing will suffer the same problem. Is there a solution or a seal kit like the Bearing Mans kit for the Bosch engine ? Any solutions out there including say machining the case to take an additional seal ?

On the drive side of the M510 there is a large bearing:61810 2RS (65x50x7) , on the axle an oil seal 22x28x4 and a needle bearing NK22/12: 22x28x12, all easily accessible.

Andy5, yes its the 61810RS bearing that always fails. The bearing seal is directly exposed to the elements with limited shielding and protection. I'm coming to the conclusion that our UK mud and crud is exceptionally abrasive and when it gets down between the crank arm and seal, the rotation of the crank together with the mud and slop is enough to abrade the seal until it eventually starts letting water in. I believe this is not unsimilar to the Bosch engines hence Bearing Mans upgrade kit.

The outer side never gives a problem with its lip seal doing the work.

Its only a 30 minute job to change that bearing once the engine is out, but do we really need to be taking engines out.
