Just got my bike back from service.. everything is like brand new and I’m just waiting for spring.
Does anyone have experience with using the bike below zero degrees celsius?
If I’m not mistaken Trek states that the bike should not be used below -5, and wonder if someone have tried to use it in even lower temperatures?

Yeah it's fine, range is reduced a little the colder it gets, and I guess at some point if the temperature drops low enough the system will refuse to work, but I haven't had that happen, I've used it in probably -5c

Here it is -10 degrees celsius at the moment. I’ve been winter riding a lot previously using Schwalbe’s Ice Spiker Pro on an analog Epic, but now I just got the Trek. And when I purchased the EXe I didn’t bother to read about the temperature limitations, as I didn’t think that far ahead..
I’m not too fond of the thought of salt sprayed all over the EXe though, so maybe I should buy me an anaog bike too.
 
Walk assist.. how does it work? I’ve tried to fiddle with it, but have not managed to trigger it yet..
It has to be enabled and you have to hold the power selector button up. That’s the up arrow button ^. But seriously, your thumb will give out before your legs do if you have to push it.

It's not awesome, but seems like no motor has really nailed walk mode yet IMO.

One trick I've found that helps: sometimes you hold the walk button down and get no assist. I've found kicking the pedals jump-starts things. Then it's a matter of finding the right gear.

I would love it if anyone came out with a walk mode switch that wasn't momentary. (i.e. you don't have to hold the button down to keep it engaged)

If you are hoping it will help get the bike up difficult, steep and/or tight terrain, you will be massively disappointed.

I‘m pretty sure it was not tested for that as it really is not great.

I figured out that it wasn’t enabled and have now enabled it.
Will try it out on the next ride and get disappointed as you all! 😂
 
A totally different question.. MAGIC MARY RADIAL tires.. have anyone tried these?
I am thinking about putting those on and just ride them in all conditions and surfaces.
I felt them (old version) drag a lot on an analog bike as they kind of suck them selves on to the surface, but I hope that it isn’t that noticable with the motor on an EXe. I’ve been using the Bontrager SE5 Team Issue tires on the bike up until now in all conditions and surfaces and hope that it isn’t that different related to how heavy the ride feels, as now it feels quite easy to ride on even paved roads and don’t feel that I need faster (easier rolling) tires.
Would love to learn about others experiences.

I have a magic mary radial ultra soft on the front, but a regular tyre (continental Kryptotal) on the rear. The mm is good, will buy again.

I just bought a Magic Mary Radial Trail Pro Ultra Soft for the front wheel (1.220 g) and a Albert Radial Trail Pro Soft (1.180 g) for the rear wheel and hope that I will like them.

Bontrager SE5 Team Issue weights in at 1.100 g, so my new tires will be a little bit heavier.
Not sure I will notice though, but I will for sure notice better grip as I’m not too impressed by them SE5.

I suspect you will think you are doing a different sport, wet weather grip of the Bonty SE5's is notoriously rubbish... while the traction from the radials is leagues ahead!

I just hope I won’t feel them drag too much. I ran MM front ond rear on my old Epic, but even though I loved them on the trails in all kind of conditions and especially when wet, they sucked the power out of me and could not keep the speed up for too long, and ended up with Nobby Nics. I hope the HPR50 will give me the extra oomph to get the flow that I want. Fingers crossed. 😊🤞

Sometimes my Trek Central app doesn’t track my ride. I always turn my bike on, pull the app up on my phone and put it in my pack. I do it the same way every time. Any idea what could cause this?
 
First time poster :)

I'm thinking of investing in an EXe 9.7. I currently have a great analogue gravel bike that I use for gravelling and commuting, but I want something a bit different to compliment it. I live near the Peak District, so lots of nice off-road opportunities.

Anyway, my questions. How are you finding the EXe on the road? is it easy to maintain 25kph with moderate effort in a higher assist mode??

I can currently commute 30km in around 75 mins on my gravel bike, but as a round trip it can be a bit draining and would appreciate sometimes doing it with some assistance, hence why I'm considering an eMTB. However, I'd feel a bit cheated if I couldn't get my commute time down to around an hour on an eMTB (it's an undulating route, so it's mainly the hilly sections I would look to pick time up on).

So partly due to the feedback here I bought the 9.7 SLX/XT. Only had a couple of rides so far, but overall I'm enjoying the experience, with 1-2 caveats.

First ride I did my regular undulating 32km circular route I usually ride with my gravel bike. Time-wise, the Trek wasn’t that much quicker, but it was significantly easier. Plus, I was comparing against my fastest August times, where conditions are better and I’m fitter.

Commuting was the same experience. 60km total, and both ways were similar times to my gravel bike, but with no anaerobic activity which it what I wanted as I want to get to work without feeling drained HR generally sat around 125. The battery also got me there and back off a full charge, which was a major consideration.

In summary, it’s ticking all the boxes except the overall speed – I was hoping to get my commute times down to closer to 1 hour. On any kind of climb of ~2% upwards, the speed is great. Ditto descents - I hit similar speeds to my gravel bike but feel significantly more stable and in control as it soaks up any imperfections in the road.

The only significant downside is the flat/minor descent speed. Once I hit the limit (25kmh in the UK), it feels like cycling through treacle. Any thoughts about methods for increasing the speed? Feels like 30kph would make a significant difference. Speedi seems an easy solution – is chipping better? Any other potential solutions??

Oh, and what’s the views on the stock saddle? I felt it was really uncomfortable, but that might be due to limited rides over the last 6 months and then doing 100km in 2 days...

Well this is strange. I have my bike set up for miles, not Kilometers. But, my range estimate in High power is in kilometers, while Mid and Eco are in miles.

let off the button, and then down and hold again. The 2nd down and hold engagement is the trick. However, you have to press and hold the button the whole time whilst pushing you bike up the hill. It literally kills my finger. The walk feature is my biggest frustration on this bike .
 
First ride on a 9.8...cable rattle towards the front was quite bad so opened it up and looked under the display unit. Surprised at how much water is in there and no obvious way for it to get in. The cable entry holes look quite well sealed to the cables. Should there be a rubber seal or something under the display unit? Thanks

Hello, I just bought a Fuel EXe XT and I have an issue with my dropper post. Even when the dropper is fully down, the saddle is still too high.
I have a size Large bike. I know the maximum insertion is 250 mm according to the official site, but I’m pretty sure there might be a little extra space for a longer dropper—I just can’t test it.
The problem is I can’t just buy a dropper, scratch it during installation, and then return it if it doesn’t fit.
I think I need a 200 mm dropper, which usually has around 280 mm insertion length. Will that fit inside the frame?
Has anyone tried a dropper larger than 170 mm and managed to fully insert the lower part into the frame?

Are you sure you purchased the right size frame? The Exe already has a very low top tube and if the seat is too high when dropper is lowered then perhaps the bike is too large?

you may be right but your frame have in official sheet 265 for L and i wanted fit in 200mm its sounds right to me even on EXE
 
Are you sure you purchased the right size frame? The Exe already has a very low top tube and if the seat is too high when dropper is lowered then perhaps the bike is too large?
no its exactly my size and fits me well but need put in seatpost because when is down i can fell restriction in movement during jumps and cornering maybe more in head than real but if there is a option for better i want it

My bike is an XL (Mullet) with 2.5" tyres - most bike carriers seem to be on the short side & the wheel trays pretty narrow, so not really suitable.
I would get a 2 bike carrier & think the clamping method would need to be a lot more flexible than most to work with the Exe frame config.

There seem to be some very good options for a US Hitch Type mount, that use the wheel for clamping (so no worries on the frame config or damage), but nothing similar for a UK towbar fitting.

Hi.
I use a Thule Euro classic G5. It's an old model no longer made but works great.

My wife and I both have exe and they fit on the rack well, never had any problems with fitting the clamps, the position is very adjustable.
