Pic of the Day

Great to get up to the Yorksire dales this weekend, -3 to start the day , bit icy in places , but stunning blue sky overhead , made it a perfect day . First ride out with my new range extender , makes a huge difference, plus don’t even know it’s there .

The human snow plower pic was the best.
Back a bit from where he was lying the drift was about 10 feet deep. Cut out about 100metres of the road impressive you could walk on it as it was hard but tyres went right through it .

Typo. It’s fixed now. I need to start proofreading my proofreads.
Some parts of Scotland would say no instead of not. I'm no gonny dee that which means, I'm not going to do that. My area would say , am nae gan ti dee that. Multi lingual on this forum so you get three different meanings for a sentence that's why we argue so much maybe 😄

No we don't. 🤬

When my wife and I visited England and Scotland back in 1996, I found it interesting that there were so many different accents in a nation smaller than the state of Arizona. I grew up in Washington state and you could not detect a different accent in anyone who grew up in the states west of the Rocky Mountains.

When we visited Edinburgh, it seemed like none of the younger people had much of an accent. I was a little disappointed until an older gentleman struck up a conversation with us. I had to really concentrate to understand everything he said. My wife’s ancestors hail from the area around Loch Lyen so we stayed in Aberfeldy while we explored the area. The locals seemed to speak with more of the accent that Sean Connery had convinced America how all Scottish folks spoke. I’m looking forward to visiting Scotland again but, I’m coming in the summer because the only snow I want to see is in a cone, covered in bright-colored sugary syrup. ;)

Anyone else entirely charmed by this? Because I'm entirely charmed by this.

Took a stupid fall today on Red Mountain Rush. Tweaked my knee a bit so might have to rest it tomorrow. Because I had to gather myself and stopped where nobody really ever would; I captured a new perspective.

Sorry to hear about the tumble. Don't rush back, make sure it's at least "mostly" healed. I'm going to have to make a trip to Hawes even though it's on the opposite side of the metro area than my locale.

That’s risky man, you could have been hit by lightning! :ROFLMAO: Where were you riding? I’m always looking for new places.
That pic was on the Competitive Track Long Couse at McDowell Mtn Park. You should make the drive over if you haven’t. The Short course (3 miles) is super fun and playful (at least on an ebike 😂). The Long course 7+ miles) is a little bit more challenging but is also great fun. The Technical course is not much more “techy” other than two big drops, but we just didn’t find it to be as much fun overall. There are many other trails in the Park and nearby.

For comparison you’ve probably ridden the race courses at White Tank on the west side closer to you. We’ve been there once and enjoyed the tracks but not nearly as much as the McDowell competitive loops or other trails. The White Tank Comp loop around the mountain did have some entertaining challenges, but a number of features on the short Tech loop there were above our pay grades at least on a first ride. Because we only visit occasionally from SoCal we’ll probably stick with McDowell which has more trails and is more scenic. We also hope to try Hawes if we can get camping reservations nearby at Usery.

You should reach out to @Powerslider who can provide local advice.

Cheers, L

At least you got a good picture out of it.

I’ve hiked a couple of trails at McDowell but haven’t taken the bike yet. I’ll probably head over this week with a full battery to explore as many trails as possible.

I’ve only been around the White Tanks competitive track twice and the short tech portion once. The mountain loop is fun but I haven’t successfully cleaned it yet. There’s one switchback to the right that keeps thwarting me. I didn’t come close to cleaning the tech part. The last time I was out there I ran across (and almost over) the Gila in my avatar and a 3 foot western diamondback within 15 minutes. I was a little paranoid riding close to bushes after that.

Enjoy your time in AZ!

Ain’t that the truth? And her evil brother the Gravity King. I swear his power is way more than it was years ago. With every passing year, hitting the ground seems to be much harsher and the weights at the gym get heavier.

Yes many dialects in UK. Where I live on the Morayshire coast you would struggle to understand anyone if they speak in local tongue its called The Doric.

Only one i think I had at least four stupid ones my last ride. All in soft snow so ok. I'm a bit aching two days later but I definitely need to take more care. Seat height and wearing loose waterproof trousers doesn't help . You won't need them by the looks of that picture.

A bit sick of Cacti and sand ( not jealous at all by the way 🫣) I thought you boys from So Cal and Arizona way would like to see some good North East of England snow and slop.
A great spring ride with me Marra @The Hodge. Had been a pleasant week here weather wise until we decided to ride on a Friday but hey ho there you go. Turned out be an excellent little jaunt in very testing conditions but good fun was had by all.
Thanks for the pint Neil…….still can’t get over the size of lass’s meal, didn’t know if she was going to eat it or put a flag at the top of if it 😳😳

My feet are cold just looking at that .

You couldn't lift an Ebike up that height , well I couldn't .
Yep, as we approached the hand the initial plan was to have one on each fingertip, but the thumb was the only one we could manage without scaffolding! Some were concerned about damage if (when) the bikes fell off.

I get it. At about 60 miles each way from Surprise to East Mesa it won't be a regular spot. IMO Hawes is worth an occasional trip though.
You'd probably want to park at the new Read Mountain lot. Google Maps

I have to get over to McDowell Mountain Park. I've been reluctant because although I live in North Scottsdale (Kierland), to get over to the other side of the McDowell mountains, it is close to the travel time (35-40 min) it takes for me to get to Hawes.
Always happy to share my experience with Hawes though. Think I've been there about 25-30 times so I have good handle on the place now.
