I ride in the French alps where the trails can be very rocky, very narrow and completely unmaintained.

My problem isn't going up, but rather going down. At a rough estimate, I would say 5 of my 6 big crashes in the last 10 years have been because of clipping a pedal at very high speed. I've bent 5 cranks this way, broken handle bars, bad back injury and major concussion. It happened on my 2016 jeffsy and 2023 giant reign ebike, both with similar BB height as the stock cube. I have had bikes with 2cm higher BB that I literally never crashed on despite racing at a high level on blind trails.

The following idea is not a solution for clipping a pedal or a replacement for shorter cranks. In my experience, however, plastic pedals like the OneUp Composite Flats can also help to reduce the risk of high speed crashes. I've never heard this discussed or considered as a benefit of composite pedals, but it makes sense that composite pedals suspend some of the impact and don't transfer it all to the cranks and bottom bracket/motor like sturdy aluminum pedals do.

I used to bend cranks and have serious issues with hard hits from aluminum pedals, but in the five years that I have ridden with composite pedals, I have had much fewer issues. Hits tend to be softer and often deflect from the pedal rather than causing a hard hit and an immediate stop or an OTB.

I follow your logic, but I think the 144/177 are exceptions - as I recall, they were among the first Gen5 bikes to be announced so maybe the 400c dimensions hadn't been finalised at that time

Righto. I preordered mine from www.theelectricbikeshiop.com (owned by cube). If it needs an adapter, then I hope they include it in the pack!

RE: the bolt situation.

I spoke to the electricbikeshop (cube) and they told me the issue is that the bolts are too big.

They will be replacing bolts or use a thread-cutting die to make existing ones smaller.

Those of you upgrading to Kiox 400C, are you keeping the Purion 400 display or removing it?
I assume the Purion is installed using a Y cable from the Controller and that you can leave it coiled up the the top tube rather than chase it back to the motor to replace it

I’ll have a look after I pick up my bike on Tuesday. I’m not sure of the need for both and it will tidy it up to remove Purion and cable(s)

Also has anyone replaced the stem and spacers and or headset?

It was a pedal strike riding my one77 wirh 150 cranks that caused me to fly OTB breaking my collarbone. However after visiting the crime scene it was quite a big hidden tree stump that my pedal caught on so it was probably going to happen regardless of bb height unfortunately. Fecking things!

I fancy a france trip I would need to take train though don't trust myself driving. Not sure where would be easiest reached by train though. I was in three valleys last year skiing that would be a choice if not a chew to get to.

There’s a decent train station in Bourg but driving on the continent is easy enough.
Sadly the weather looks shite next week, can’t pretend I’m not a bit gutted!

For christs sake why would a person want to slog it out in a car when there is a restaurant cab that serves tea and meals while viewing the amazing countryside and not the highway Not being from Europe and not a fan of driving, I marvel at the comfort and casual way to travel that is not possible here in the US. I can't wait to start a trip this week using the train system for central Europe in search of single track.

fwiw... I hope to be able to take off the front wheel, use a bike bag (as if it is luggage) and travel spontaneously without making a reservation for the bike.

I got all in one box when I ordered it

slx had only the mini remote and the standard controller. Changing over was 5 minutes but I struggled to pair the mini remote because utube and the app do not tell you to hold the power button whilst putting the battery in

Took yesterday to get the bikes finished after installing invisiframe the previous evening. Was an interesting day pinned cranks turned up but were the fitment for the previous gen (my fault)new correct fitment ordered.

Had a slip through the door for a custom charge of nearly £50 for 2 x AVS motor plates, hopefully will turn up today.

Took the bike out for the first run and my first ebike ride. First climb is very steep long and rocky it was very interesting. I managed to negotiate it with 0 pedal strikes on standard cranks. But can see why it can be an issue.

Jumped in on the deep end and straight in for some very steep tech. This was interesting given the lovely prolonged weather made it like riding on marbles(unable to stop for 3/4 of the decent).


Bike is very capable, had to man handle it round several bends as scrubbing the speed was hard and the brakes didn't quite feel like they were doing there job.

Hit a second decent top flatter section felt good, very fast and composed . Into the steep section and the front lever pulled to the bar not good on a first ride. I finished the decent which pure sketch with the front brake not 100%.

Decided to hit BPW for some out of hours for a decent so my partner can get a feel for her bike. Just rode a flowy blue into a red jump line into a blue (front brake not really needed).

The bike felt very fast an agile on these trails. Easy to change direction and pop. Very easy to jump and pump i didn't notice the weight but the missus did. What I did notice was alot of rattling which I assume is the loose bolt in the battery compartment which I will fix this morning.

Overall a good experience, as of now I prefer the downs on my normal enduros as they are both very capable bikes. Given the ability to get 3 times the decents this may change.

I’ve done a bit more digging and you can have both displays but you can only link one to the mini remote so the Kiox stays on the last used screen.
I’m not sure of the value of this you’re probably better sticking with one or the other

Rando’s top suggestion on marking the suspension linkage/shock bolts with small blobs of paint when at the right torque is here Cube one77 2025

My record of fixing the top battery mount here Cube one77 2025 and an earlier post with pics from the other thread here Cube Hybrid EMTB 2025 looks lit!. I’d also recommend checking the 2 lower battery mount bolts and sticking a 5-10mm foam pad on the flat plastic area just below the top mount mechanism; that stops the slight play at the top of the battery when it‘s clipped in place.

With all of that done I got no creaks or knocks from the frame area, the only knocks remaining are from the front brake pads on first use after dropping into a descent (like they’re clunking back into place, having centred themselves during a ride up/flat). Not sure there’s much to do about that; must be a Shimano XT BR-M8120 brake calliper thing. New pads might have different tolerances and help, but this really is nit picking and doesn’t improve function at all.

At an attempt at humor "bad brakes never stopped anybody" Could I ask what brakes you have and were they bedded in. My all time favorites are the XT 8120's... just love em.

I've got the AT variant with the XT 8120 and they are OK, but not as good as the Hayes Dominion A4 on my Sommet enduro rig. That said, I am used to Shmano XT brakes from the past and do like the serviceability and interchangeable nature of the Shimano brakes if something gets broken (you can easily swap Deore/SLX/XT/XTR/Zee/Saint stuff in).

Nothing wrong with the XT brakes, I’ve gone and put them on my hardtail, replacing the MT5s which in turn replaced Codes which really are garbage. I think all in all they are the best all round brake for the money and work nicely with other shimano product.

I do like the Hays and they do seem quite special (they look gorgeous in both the bronze and the purple) but I’m very much an MT7 Pro HC3 or Hope Tech 4 V4 kind of guy. I’ll be consolidating brands at some point on all bikes and when I do it’ll probably all move to hays or hope.
