Rear brake faded completely. I thought I could fix the master cylinder …and failed.
(Rubber seals and piston was toast.)

So…I bought and installed another.

I’ll rebuild the old parts and keep them as spares.

I was given a mates set of MT7's to fix. leaking master cylinder. New leavers bought from Ali Express (these are going on the HT) as the god awful Avid/SRAM nastyness tries to kill me every time I ride it.

Rode the bloody thing 😜

***Did replace the front tyre lastnight so a new Continental Kryptotal (downhill casing. / supersoft for front)

Had a ‘first-look’ at Dyfi Bike Park which involved ~20 miles riding with Landrover uplifting 😎

No fast times today but enjoying the lesser trails 😎

During a long spell of no riding, whilst I gave the garage a complete makeover, the pads/discs became contaminated, both ends! I have no idea how, because I had a big sheet over the bike while I was painting. I was out on Sunday for the first time and the howling was intense and the braking wasn't too good either. New Shimano finned resin pads fitted today, bedded in etc. Stops on the spot now, very controllable. Marvellous! :love:

While I have no interest in converting my forks to coil with a Smashpot, I am interested in the Avalanche open bath cartridge and how it performs.
I’m still of the mind that modern forks don’t have enough oil on them for longevity and the only reason they’ve been designed that way due to people giving too much of a shit about a few hundred grams.

Not my first time with a pressure washer and bike. I'm sure more water got on my Nytro motor when I was caught in a rain storm a week ago.
 
So Nextie asked me for the serial number for their records, and they gave me a discounted "crash replacement" so stripped down rear wheel and await the replacement. I think I have been lucky it didnt completely fail on Sunday hitting some big fast trails.

I changed my brake pads and topped up my tubeless fluid. I also aquired all the items I need to mount my Bosch Kiox display onto the top tube. Problem is I can't decide if it's worth the bother so I'm holding back. I have an Orbea Wild and the adapter needs to be mounted at a point with a 1mm curve. This puts it a little further down the top tube than I would have liked and it may also stand a little too high for my liking. I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure :) .

If you went for it, what is the worst that could happen? :unsure:
I'm assuming that you can always remove it and revert to where you were before.
 
Is it wireless? cant you mount on the stem / bars?
I wouldn't want it on my top tube either.

It is mounted on the stem. It's particular issue when I turn the bike over to take the front wheel on and off so I can get the bike in the car. I would prefer a cleaner "cockpit"

Yes I put pads at the end of the bars to stop shifters etc touching the ground. Depends how big that bit is though.
 
I agree there are work arounds but it gets a little tiresome and at times it's easy to forget then you end up with a marked display. Mine is already scratched along the top edge so perhaps I've left it too late.
 
Rode a track where logging had been done during winter. Had an unfortunate encounter with a dry branch laying on the ground.
Fortunately it was only 5-6km, mostly down hill, to get back home.

The question is then: should I replace it for another XT derailer or should I upgrade to wireless?

Edit: when I see the prices of the wireless types, it will most certainly be another XT.

I was going to buy new chain, cassette and chainring anyway, as they are all worn.

I've broken three in 3 years it's easily done . All been small pieces of wood or bits of heather .I just went cheaper .
