What did you do to your EBike this week?

rode the bloody thing friday afternoon @Bpw, saturday @ dirtfarm and today @ Bpw, rinsed the battery again today so finished my last pedalup with a very heavy non-e-bike 😖
last trails were hard work especially when trying to keepup with friends who had working eeeeeeebs;)


good fun though (25 miles today)

Today, I tried my OneUp EDC tool out on the trail for the first time . On my way to work I took a detour up into the woods, it was pretty steep and gnarly. Riding in eMTB mode and pedalling standing up in a pretty low gear, the chain snapped.
I was very happy to pull out the EDC and break off the destroyed chain link and replace it with a new one. I guess I lost about 15 minutes in the process.
When I get home I am going to measure the chain wear. It might be time for a new one.

Not broken many chains surprisingly . Needed that tool in anger once the chain went down the inside of chainring. Lot of folk don't carry them.
 
I carry a tool, pump, tube, tubeless repair kit, quick links & levers. I've dug myself out of the walk of shame several times in the past year. My mates' crank fell of his Whyte on Saturday & guess who had the right allen key to screw it back on? That's right, me, the white knight on two wheels :ROFLMAO:🦸‍♂️
 
I carry an EDC tool inside my pump because I then know that I'm never going to need either. 😉
Had to Google EDC tool . Mine is a mix the link remover was part of a Gerber multi. Have a chain reaction with Allen keys etc and levo swat. I probably have duplicates one day I may get round to sorting it out . I'm not doing anything that I need to save weight. Flask or stove and lunch are regular addition for anything near 30 miles. Rant over.
 
That's one of the beauties of the Merida sadlle-mounted multitool. It's always there, much like the stem-mounted EDC tools.
Now if only the saddle was comfortable...

I have broken two chains in two years, over a total of approx. 5000km. The first time I had to walk out of the woods, and have my wife pick me up a few kilometers from home. That made me look into tools to carry on the bike, as I rarely ride with a backpack. I carry the EDC in the pump.

When consulting my logs, it seems like this chain has done 2800km, so I guess its time for a new one. It doesn't measure too badly, 0.75% wear on my tool, but most chains measure 0.25% when new on the same tool. The cassette is a bit older, so I might just go on using both, the replace the pair in due time. And perhaps also the front ring while I'm at it.

Lot of miles that pal. Hope you get away with just a chain. Back in the day u could turn the chainring round and get another year out of it haha .

After two weeks off the bike with a calf strain, I finally took it out with the new mini fender installed and then fitted a new saddle to take some of the pressure off my old ass.
 
Went out for a spin with the kids. Didn’t need to turn it on as they’re not very quick yet (only 6 1/2). Good exercise. I probably should have taken out the hardtail or DJ bike but couldn’t be arsed to swap over what was already in the van.
 
IME, the fifty hour thing is arbitrary. I service on condition, more in winter, less in summer. These were last done in March & once I opened them up, I could see they didn't really need it. Mate of mine hasn't bothered in three years & felt like he was going otb every time he used the fron brake. Checked the pressure & it was down to 20psi :ROFLMAO:

I only got last levos suspension serviced once after about 4 years. Just got away with having to get new rear shock. Mate serviced legs on forks maybe twice as well. 10,000 miles when I sold it. 300 pounds for service would not do that every year. I didn't feel much difference to be honest.

Forks & shocks on mountain bikes are generally badly designed as a weight compromise. By design they take in dirt & dust, so most of it is just cleaning & relubing. I find the suspension runs like butter after a service for about a fortninght until the grease & lube starts to ebb away. On the upside I've worked out that changing seals which is the spendy part is unnecessary when you stick to the manufacturer's schedule. I generally change them once a year & haven't found any problems from doing it that way whereas cleaning & greasing really does improve things.

I maybe think the forks are smoother after oil change but i dont notice it for long . I'm easily pleased and don't do much tuning to be honest . Same with tyre pressures if I put gauge on it would be out of curiosity. I noticed the difference getting new levo in April. Bearings well goosed on Expert probably, quite clunky it had a hard life though. I think I pay about £50 for seals and oil change.
