Fuel EXe Trek Fuel EXe Megathread!

Last weekend is happened the second time that one of my cranks came loose. The first time I was not sure what torque Trek had used in the factory, but this time I had applied the spezified torque. The first time was 3 month ago., the bike us one year old.
Did anyone experience that as well? Any tips to make that more permanent?

I had the same thing happen twice. Each time thos craqnks came loose, the bike would start doing the thing where the head unit appeared to be dead and would only function when I plugged in the battery charger (with or without power). After replacing the head unit and tightening the cranks it was fine again for a while, but eventually, the motor failed catastrophically.

I kind of feel like the loose cranks was giving the motor a hard time and that was frying things 'down there'. I check them every ride now!

I’m curious if the EXE has a place in the market now. They’ve always been a potential purchase of mine but really only due to the huge discounts available. If trek maintain the high RRP with only 60nm motor and a similarly small capacity battery, are they going to sell? I suspect the battery size might increase, and if that is still going to be removable easily, they might have a good differentiator to the rest of the SL market. But I suspect they are going to be pricey.

I think if they can come out with a frame that will hold the 360 and the bigger battery, they will have a winner.
Just let the buyer decide. More battery more weight or lightweight package.
I would like a bigger range (battery) but not all the time. I like the relative light emtb it is.
I think the range extender is a very ugly solution. I’d rather pay for a little extra and have a spare large battery at home for ehen I need it.
The 60Nm upgrade is nice for climbing. But in reality I’m completely fine with the current 50.
I use my bike in the netherlands. So not much steep climbing. And I ride alone or the analog bike friends. (Because of Long-covid I can no longer join my friends without my e-support)

Since I doubt that anyone with the f-exe rides the stock tires for more than a few rides, I'm curious which tires you guys use?
I'm currently on Maxxis Assegai Exo+ Maxxgrip front, DHRII Exo+ MaxxTerra rear, but I think about getting some Conti kryptotal (at least for the rear tire) since the DHRII is getting torn apart easily on rocky trails in a short time.

I am also on an Assegai up front, but I use a Maxxis Dissector in the rear. That combo works well for me.
On less demanding terrain I like the Kenda Hellkat at the front as a lighter option.

I've used a continental argotal on front and a Kryptotal on the rear, this was a pretty good combo. But recently I swapped to a schwalbe magic mary radial on the front, and this is really good.

Did you use the Argotal also in dry/dusty conditions, on hardpack, stones etc? Some people say that it performs nearly as good as the krypto on hardpack, but is also far better than the krypto in loose and wet conditions - provided it's the supersoft compound on the front.

Yeah, I used in all conditions, it was a pretty good all rounder. This was ins supersoft dh flavour.

Need to use one of my old Bonty wheels while carbon wheel gets rebuilt. I’m missing the end cap. Anyone know what the part is? Also the other side has been a bit scuffed up. Don’t think this part can be replaced. Just use as it is? This might be the end cap? Not sure! Bontrager Rapid Drive Shimano MS 12 mm Drive Side End Cap | £12.99 from Pedal On

I'm running with the Minion DHF since I got the bike, and just ordered the Kryptotal for the rear. Ran the Stock tyres on the rear for about 2 years but they are pretty terrible for cornering grip!

Hi guys, wondering if I installed my UDH correctly? Decided to try a Santa Cruz Megatower 2 UDH instead of the SRAM one since hey they are supposed to be the same thing right?

After tightening it halfway it doesn't seem all that right. And I can't remove it easily now :(
While trying to remove the UDH, it leveraged the UDH against the seat stay corner so I stopped, and I am worried doing it further will damage it.

Thanks!

Ah, thank you! I will get the correct one.
Now any ideas of how to remove the normal UDH hanger now? Looks like I'll have to sacrifice it and grip it to a vise.

Looks like new Fuel EX-e/Fuel+ has quietly come out. Hate that naming thing trek is doing with Fuel+ btw makes it way harder to google.

Looks like three different versions:

Trek Fuel+ EX - 150/145mm Travel - 29er
Trek Fuel+ MX - 160/150mm Travel - Mullet
Trek Fuel+ LX - 170/160mm - 29er

So effectively a Fuel, Remedy and Gen 5 Slash all in one platform, pretty impressive from a product management perspective to get all of that from one frame, will be a extremely versatile bike.

Also has TQ HPR60 and 580wh battery. Can see the cooling fins below. Looks like the same frame is shared between all of them, just the lower and upper linkages that can be swapped out to change the travel/geometry. Pretty neat.

Looks like it's primarily the top linkage that changes between them. Can see how the seatstay portion changes quite a bit between them. Included some overlays at the end to help show the difference (First overlay is the LX over the EX, Second one is the MX over the EX).

Would be very cool if they sell them aftermarket so you can easily change between long travel/mid travel/short travel.

Clearly shops not respecting the embargo as usual. Trek will probably get them to remove the content. Even here is some spy reads us.

Wouldn't be surprising.

New Fuel+ seems to be much more similar to the Slash+ when overlayed than the outgoing model which makes sense. Looks like it will fit a pretty massive dropper in it at least. Watch them sell it with a 170mm lol.

*Actually looking at the specs they are selling them with 200mm dropper posts which is an upgrade. Found some more pics of the carbon one with a 3/4 angle as well.

I actually like the current trend (at least, that's how I feel about it) towards longer chainstays, maintaining reach, and increasing stack. I had bikes with "massive" reach (515mm for a 6,1" guy) and super shorts chainstays - I oft felt a bit off-balanced in many situations. A reach between 470-490 and cs between 445-450 is perfect for me; also the higher stack helps in the steep.
