No issues here with the latest firmware update. Never had any issues. Must just be lucky.
Do you have the same Smart Gateway software nr.》 20221017000 《?

And the battery the new one is 》 2317《.

Could be a different one for different regions.

All in all the bike works perfectly, motor, controls...etc.

It's just the power reading are by 100% lower then they were before the update...

Example, in todays 25km 850m d+ ride the average power readout was 8W 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤨...

x2 no issues with latest update.

Also never had any single issue with the bike or problem with the motor, couldn't be more reliable and still on warranty for one more year anyway.

Riding for the last few times this year, still enjoying this bike a lot after 1800kms on it, would buy again!

Ok I can agree that the bike is great, mine has over 2000km in 8 months and runs like a swiss watch...you probably read my review...

But some of us users are also tech and sport analysis nerds beside mtb lovers...so a completely wrong power readout is more than annoying it's a disaster for us/me...especially when a big company like Giant doesn't even post a software update changelog so we could know what was changed. Nevertheless the bikes are our property once paid for and so I think we should know what Giant is doing with our property via the updates...

I just wanted to point out that most likely the majority of us don't have any issue with the update or whatever.

It's still frustrating that some of you are facing weird issues!

I have the same issue, but I am glad I am not alone - I've just bought a Garmin Edge 130 an hook it up to my Reign, but first I updated the bike and Garmin, to be sure everything is as it should be. My first susspect was Garmin, because I got some spikes (and maximum )in powermeter readings - not seen very good in attached image.

All right guys, getting back to the new software update...did a few rides with both(625 and 800) batteries to test everything out...

1. The power readout: I tried to ride with the Giant phone app connected to rule out different parts of story. So the power readout on the Giant app was surprisingly extremely accurate(it wasn't before the update-there were a lot of spikes). This time It showed 171W average and 705W maximum.

Although I don't know if this is motor power values or man power, it could be either.
If anyone has credible info on what power readings the app shows I would appreciate it, otherwise I will send an inquiry to Giant about it.

My Garmin app on the other side still showed extremely low average of 9W and a max of 189W maximum, as did the Ebike field for Garmin that I am using. Have already sent an inquiry to the developer of the field app and will also send one to Garmin.

2. The battery update: There were reports that the battery efficiency/range got a bit better. What I have found is that before the update the first % or the 100th % of the battery(both) dropped extremely fast after about 8m d+, where as now the battery sticks on the first percent(my measurements/same trails) 625Wh 80m d+ and the 800Wh 110m d+. So what I think Giant did with the battery update is that they just changed how the battery consumption is being showed on the first bars. I haven't discharged any of my batteries under 40% on the last rides so can't say how it behaves when you get to the last quarter, usually the efficiency there wasn't the best and the % reading dropped exponentially, will see it It has changed there also. ⚡

Just bought a Rockshox Reverb AXS to replace OE dropper, should pair nicely with my GX AXS RD.

Is routing the dropper cable again a mess and need to drop the motor like some other Giant eMTBs or it's fine ? I will leave a section of the cable in place if it's a mess to do as I will most likely revert the bike to OE parts if I have to sell it someday.

Reverb AXS 30.9 170mm are pretty hard to find so pulled the trigger when I finally found one online, SRAM seem to ship these to manufacturers for their end high end builds and leave pretty much nothing for aftermarket sales.

I took a first look and it looks like there's nothing to properly guide that cable, it's just dissapearing randomly on top of motor, I will assume that you need some kind of trick to get the cable routed or drop the motor to do it easily.

I'll post pics early next week when I receive it.

I applied the update a couple days ago. But I have not been out on a ride since so I can’t comment on the details you posted. The update itself went smoothly and all seems ok from a quick ride around the block. Have a proper ride coming up this weekend. Will report if I notice anything.
I don’t have any Garmin or 3rd party sensors but I am not noticing any major difference in power usage after this update. However, one thing that seems to have gone wrong is my odometer. I had around 600 miles and after update it zeroed. 🤷🏽

i‘m not that impressed with the X2. Thinking about a coil Shock instead.
I would imagine a coil shock will make it less poppy not more poppy. Might be worth having your X2 serviced before shelling out loads on a new shock, it would be a selling point even if you decide you still don't like it and want to sell the X2 and get something else. FWIW I was talking to the guy that services my suspension about X2s and he said that they often come from the factory badly assembled but that if someone who knows what they're doing services them then they're one of the best on the market. I hope he's right cos I have X2s on two of my bikes! 😁

Might be the issue :). I actually starting leaving my emtb more and more in the garage and taking the analog bike instead. It’s just more fun.

I should maybe swap to a light emtb but they are so expensive. The entry level Trek EXE cost more then my E+1. Totally insane. Right now my plan is to get my bike as good as I can.

I recently rode my normal bike again as I snapped the mech on my Reign and I was blown away by how much better it was on descents. Without all that weight you can just put the bike exactly where you want it and as you say they feel so alive compared to the dead feeling you get from a heavy ebike. Pain in the arse riding back up again though! 😂

Exactly :p. My next bike is going to be an light emtb but it’s a few years away before I ca justify the expense :p. 19kg something would be perfect.

For me it would be the analogue bike every time. I find analogue bikes way quicker and more entertaining on descents. My Strava times support this, I'm significantly slower on my ebike even though it doesn't always feel like it.

Coming at it from a different angle: I keep my mtb around from lift access bike parks mostly to preserve my ebike. I actually love riding my ebike without its battery at the bike park, runs sweet. However, between jumps and braking bumps, the bike park is one of the harshest places to ride your bike. I started to worry about BB bearings in particular, on many motors that could be a full motor swap, at the very least a return to the service center. Whereas BB's on the mtb are cheap and easy to replace.

So yeah to put it simply: bike parks break stuff, so I'd rather stuff breaks on my 2.5k YT capra than my 4.5k Commencal meta, they both feel good out there!

just did a 21 miles, with 3700ft climb on a friend's levo. it had a 700wh battery and had about 40% battery remaining at the top. I've been eyeing a 2022 reign e3. i know it has a smaller battery but is that a realistic climb for the reign without running out of battery in mostly "trail" mode?

It depends on your weight, tire pressure, cadence, climb incline.

I am 86kg and my average consumption on the 625Wh battery is 35Wh per 100m(330ft) climbed in the 200% Assistance mode-that would equate to about 50% Assistance on the Levo.

Calculating the average consumption on the Levo 420Wh(60% used) / 1130m from your data would come to about 37Wh per 100m(330ft) climbed.

So the Giant should be slightly more efficient, but if you take the higher weight of the Giant into account they end up about the same, only if you had the Carbon Levo...it's about 2,5 to 3kg(5,5lb to 6,5lb difference.

I manage the get about 1400m(4500ft) - 1500m(5000ft) from the 625Wh battery, but do use higher tire pressure about 30psi on the climbs and also found out that every 1,5 psi decrease in tire pressure equals to a 1 Wh increase in average battery consumption.

My longest ride was on Eco/Tour settings... 63km(39miles) with 1730m(5675ft) climb.
