I had an issue with this headset on my Kenevo. Kept on coming loose as the insert at the top of the headset that fits between the bearing and stem was a bit short so the face plate wasn’t putting enough pressure on the system when pre-loaded. Figured out what the problem was and reverted to the insert that came with the Kenevo and it hasn’t budged since.

Strange as this headset is the part number Spesh recommends.

It's the rubber seal etc that's worn and not much more to get a complete thing with bearings for £30. Had my issues with looseness as well I ended up putting star Hope Doctor in or something like that. I keep an eye on it as I used it loose without noticing so wore carbon and needed a new frame but warranty covered it. My pet hate is the top bearing it gets filthy I probably go through 3 a year. I reckon crap gets in through the cable holes in frame.

The bottom center port for the cables, is that dead center when at 0 degrees?
Trying to decide if I can run those bars with the Renthal Apex stem.
 
Maxxis shortie 3c 120tpi DD to replace the DHR11 on my Whyte E160RSX. .......going to be needed now for a couple of months. My mate is getting a Specialized Hillbilly for his Levo so it will be interesting to compare.

Don't ride that on tarmac as it will last no time at all.

The only time I ride tarmac is if I do an XC ride rather than in the forest and there is 1 mile of tarmac (which is usually pretty muddy anyway!!) only before going offroad...the rest is singletrack or bridleway. I have also opted for Max Terra to get a bit more wear from it.

I agree to a certain extent, I think it depends on tyre pressure, I run my front tyre (Maxxis Minion) @ 18PSI and my rear (Maxxis Shorty) @ 19PSI and it’s done nearly a thousand miles, quite a lot of those on tarmac and I’m not exactly what you’d call light 🤔

Hi, yes, the port is dead centre. The rotation of the bars is normally set to match your head angle, so around 64 degrees, not quite sure what you mean at 0 degrees. Anyhoo, had a look at your stem and it’s quite similar to mine, so I think you’d be ok. If you did need a bit more room you could always open out the port slightly if required.

Thanx. With dead center I do not mean center of the lenght of the bar but rather of the thickness of the bar when set at 0 degrees (neutral roll).

Is the hole facing straight down when it's set to neutral roll, or is it facing slightly forwards or backwards?

The Apex stem does not have this "cut out".

Good to know especially as I use very nearly the same pressures as that.
My main reason for the change is that my DHR11 is fairly worn now after 850 miles and whereas it used to clear mud ( certainly better than the Assegai on the front) it now clogs up a lot. This has also been a particularly wet winter so far. I will replace the Shorty with a new DHR11 in the spring.......assuming the trails are drier by then!

I always set my bars with the highest rise perpendicular to the ground. If you set the bars in line with the head angle you are reducing reach, reducing the effective rise of the bars. Some may prefer that but it also changes the intended sweep of the bars.

Dawes Super Galaxy Tourer was feeling left out with all the money spent on Levo. So upgraded to Tectro v brakes what a difference ,£ 40 wellspent.
