To give you a reference point. I have
Deviate claymore high pivot 170/180mm 435cs/460 reach
Trek session mid high pivot 200/200 445 cs465 reach
Crestline S180 VPP 180/180mm CS445/455 reach.

The big advantage of the mid and high pivots is that the rear grows and the bike becomes more stable and speed when diving deeper into its travel and more nimble when using less travel. They also feel the square edge hits as the rear wheel kind of climbs up and over the obstactle.

However wheelies and manuals are harder. My harderest to wheelie or manual bike I have is the claymore as the high pivot changes the cs as you pull for the manual. It makes for funky manualling. My easiest to manual bike is the crestline at 445 chainstay. That has a small amount of rearward path but not much.

When buying a high or mid pivot you really need to consider the sagged CS length. That is what you will actually be riding. My deviate is sags out to 445ish when seating getting to my ideal cs length. That matches the crestline cs length. The DH bike will sag out further and give me closer to 455 cs. That suits its use case of a high speed stable dh bike.

For you riding a small you need to consider of the 440 cs unsagged, closer to 450 sagged, is going to be too long and feel like a bus of a bike that isnt very playful and is pretty damn hard if not impossible to manual.

For a size small i've like to see 430,435cs at the longest on a mid or high pivot bike.

How far away time line wise do you think that is, as that report was published 8 years ago, and nothing has been done ?
NZ government loves to churn out laws. With the amount of e-bikes around nowadays and NZs infatuation with scooters and micro mobility in general. I wouldn’t be surprised to see something within the next 12 months.

I don't think you get a shock with the frame only option, you do get cranks though.

Forgot to add, even if a max speed comes in for NZ it will be 45kph as we have thousands of Commuter/Cargo cycles/pedelecs on the roads in NZ with 45kph limit. I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to change the status quo. Very easy to just make a law stating 45kph is the maximum for electric bicycles though.

Which is all fine and well, but I have a 45km/h limiter and regularly exceed that when riding, both on the trails and on the road.

why do you expect a company that only ships one chainstay length to offer the same adjustment options as a company that allows you to alter the geometry in lots of different ways? can't have all these at the same low price point
 
What are you talking about? I don't expect adjustment options, i like the bike as it is, but want a perpendicular headtube like almost every bike in the market.
that crestline has a 1.5" straight tube so you can use reach adjust headsets to setup your reach, venduro opted not for one, what is not to understand about this!? if you don't have a straight tube you don't need extra material up there. form follows function in that case
 
It reminds me of Evils butt plug style head tubes.
One of the advantages of carbon is you can add reinforcement where its needed easily.

Its good engineering principles, not bad.

If we consider head tube potential failure states of crashing.

A) Hitting something head on. Say run short on a jump and nose into the back face of a jump. That is applying a compressive force at the bottom of the head set trying to push fork through the top tube. The top of the head you has an extension force trying to tear the top of the head tube out.

B) Flat bottom out type. Like running long on a drop and fully bottoming the bike. This failure type is putting a extension force on the bottom of the headtube and a compressive force on the top of the head tube.

Butt plug style head tubes resist Flat bottom out extension forces on the be bottom of the head tube better than straight consistance head tube type designs.

It's not an engineering demand, it's just aesthetic, which i don't follow. DH bikes have perpendicular headtubes with no failure issues.
They are less optimized for weightsavings.... So in that use case run the heavy wall straight through.

In all honesty, I don't care for the butt plug look either. However, im function over form. So it the bike suits my needs then so be it.

Sorry, but aesthetic should match the engineering. The funny thing here is that this bottom bump could be reduced.

But the mission was to make a headtube like it bumped on a wall.

I checked my quiver of bikes. All of them have some form of tapering on the head tubes. The dh bike actually has some formed butt plug style of shape.

It's also worth meentioning that the steerer on dh bikes are also not tapered, leaving a lot more room for material in the bottom section.

I do agree with you. The Velduro is a functional design with less emphasis on aesthetic.
Its like a Telsa. Looks ok, built for functional use. The unno is like a Ferrari, looks like sex on toast. goes like a rocket, might have some impractical points about it, but damn you want it.... the telsa will beat it in a drag race....
 
Rear travel >170mm, mid pivot and frame design is a green flag, if the performance is on par and the european price is competitive, then it's a serious contender in my list.
I would love to see some kinematics graphs.
 
I don't like the last page and a half about a completely pointless and functionally irrelevant detail. Was hoping this page would bring some fresh discussion about a bike I'm interested in, but here you are again...
 
Any more juice on this bike and future demos? Things have been a bit quiet lately. I read an very informal Italian review of a prototype version of the bike, lot of ride/handling kudos but concerns about idler chain noise. Also, has it been determined if the bike has a removable battery or does the motor have to be dropped to get access to it?

Hopefully if be the case, the idler playing up is easily resolved....

If you ordered one of the first production frames it would be arriving in November.
 
Hope some of you NZ guys go and take pics and get fresh impressions for the rest of us. Although charging 20 bucks to demo a bike is a bit iffy tbh.

Pretty standard in the UK, although you often get it back if you buy a bike.
 
I think donating $20 to trail advocacy is an awesome idea. It's a fraction of what a bike rental costs and it also keeps all the people that would get in line with no intention of ever buying it away.
 
I was on the Velduro website last night...for the US frameset, it looks like a fairly large window from late Fall to late Spring delivery plans and $8500 NZ = roughly $5k+/- USD...I've emailed them for confirmation. Then add our dumb US 15% tariff on NZ = $750 (this could been a new RS Vivid shock---we only punch ourselves in the nuts😵) for $5,750. Velduro said on my FB account last month that they were securing US service sites...they didn't say if that was bike shops certified to service DJI or what...its been cryptic messaging at best.😜
 
You were able to order one for US purchase? I didn't realize that this was even possible!!!
 
I have a couple of mates semi interested. I might rip over (7 hour round trip) and have a look. But not if nobody else wants to go because i wont be buying one..... But am keen to test and compare to my crestline.
