Stock H15 rear hub is destroyed after 4 weeks

Hi,

Here another no-name POS rear hub that failed after 2 months of use.
Rear hub got stuck a few times and makes a horrible sound when you start pedalling. Let's see how guarantee from Orbea works. If the solution is to replace with a new POS "chosen hub", I might need to look new decent rear wheel. Any recommendation? Would dtswiss E 1900 spline work, or would I need to look for an offset rear wheel as Raceface AR? (Iam assuming that rebuilding the wheel with a decent hub is too expensive to be an option in my market).

I would always go hand built wheels over bought but I build my own.
If you know a wheel builder I would look at DT swiss350 hub, Hope Pro4 or Spank Hex hub rebuilt onto your rim
Spokes Sapim Race or DT Swiss competition
Hub around £150
Spokes £30
Labour £30-£60
You don’t need to rebuilt front rear is most important for decent hub

Depends where/how you ride, I suppose. Rocky jank/loam/mixed/trail/enduro etc etc
I have a Fortus 30 wheelset which wasn’t expensive. Probably not enough angry bees in the hub for some, but it’s well made and puts up with my nonsense.

I will check with LBS the cost of rebuilding using RF AR rim with new hub Vs new wheel.
 
Look on the bright side :D Now you can build a Hope set of wheels :D

My Deore rear hub was loose and the cassette falls off after 8 weeks of riding, but after a tweak by TLBS they are trucking well. I want to destroy them to justify a Hope wheel set TBH. Let's see how it goes !!
 
My friend who blew out his Chosen Hub on his m20 got the warranty replacement hub (another Chosen) and since he bought the bike online, he had to take it to a local Orbea dealer for the warranty. Had to pay $240 in labor/parts to rebuild the wheel and the hub failed again in 3 rides. My friend is a really fit rider, rides the bike 60-70% off, only uses eco when he's tired. hardly ever uses trail, and never Boost so he's not even putting much strain on the hub....
 
Man, those hubs are just crap. I’m glad I was in a position to skip the warranty BS and just get a new hub and wheel rebuilt.
 
I got an interim solution from my LBS (an used wheel from an M20 that has the Shimano MT410 hub) while waiting for warranty on the "Chosen PoS".

I am not sure what will they answer from Orbea, but I am looking for options to rebuild the AR30 rim with a Shimano XT rear hub (about 70/80 Euro) or a DT Swiss 350 here (a bit more expensive, aroind 200 Euro). Rebuilding it should cost around 80 Euro.

No way to rebuild it at LBS though. They might both lose a customer with this issue.

My second option is to go for budget DT Swiss E1900 spline wheelset.

It is a pity they ship few-thousand-Euro bikes with that crappy hub when, although not exceptional, MT410 are more robust and cost 30 to 40 Euro only.

Well, I finally got a solution through LBS from Orbea: new wheel with AR30 and Shimano rear hub.
Warranty went terribly slow in my view, but worked at the end.

A friend is going through the same issue fore the second time. Seems like a hub shortage so time unfortunately is what it is. Took 6 weeks for the first and has been the same so far this time and still not back yet. First replacement lasted 2 rides.
 
My H30 doesn't have any graphics on the hub either..... :rolleyes:
Will have to see how it goes, I've just dropped 100+ quid on tyres that (hopefully) won't try to kill me when it's moist like the factory maxxless...

If the hub is an issue I'd probably go for some hunts or as others have said just get some built, rims don't seem too bad so far??

Expensive hobby these days this biking lark! :D
 
As above, get yourself a pro4. And given the old exchange rate is about £1-$1 you should be getting than at a good price.

That is right, there's a shortage in components in general these days.
When it comes to the "Chosen" I was told the weak part is the aluminum based freewheel, so they will probably keep rear hub shell and ship a new reinforced micro spline compatible core/freewheel piece in short to solve the issue.
 
An update. The hub bearings are loose again. Twice I'll be at LBS in 4 months with this issue. Ridiculous. Will definitely be grabbing some hope hubbed wheels but very annoying to have to do this on a 9.5K bike. Grrr.

Any chance to apply blue loctite to the axle thread if you have Shimano cone and cup bearings (MT-510B hub)? Maybe that could help. If you have MT410 hub, that one uses sealed bearings if I am not wrong, so different animal.
I just got my MT501, so will give it some time and see.

But yes, going for Hope, DT, or Industry Nine as pointed in this thread is the best way forward if you have some bucks to spend in new wheels.
 
Anybody removed the free hub on a chosen hub? My friend received his driver....It's a shit hub so end caps don't seem to pop off like normal hubs.

I've joined the gang, My Bike (H15) with the no name hub is at the LBS along with someone else's H30 with the same problem. My bike has 400km on it. Let's see what the outcome is

Just heard from LBS Orbea are sending a new wheel with there updated hub. Hopefully this one will last longer 🙏 🤞
 
Buy a hub & get old wheel rebuilt with new hub then have spare wheel
 
I've just checked. My rear hub is a Shimano 510 on my new H15. Although I've also just spotted I've got a flat front tyre so a changed tube is needed! Edit - at least the wheel went straight up tubeless

Just had my hub fail on my H15 at 9 weeks/ 300 miles. The freehub locked up and the chain was rotating with the wheel instead of freewheeling. I've stripped it down and managed to free it off but it's definitely toast. The freehub itself is made of cheese and the pawls have eaten there way into it. Probably not up to analogue mtb use never mind emtb use. Definitely not fit for purpose.

Same issue here with 100 miles on new Orbea Rise H15 with the Non Shimano Hub with no identification. LBS says he has seen about 30 of these hub issues. Asked if it was better to just build a new rim because I heard some of the replacements are also junk. He said he would wait and that they switched to a better Shimano Hub. Not very impressed and hope the bike holds up otherwise.

A good compromise hub that is not too expensive is the Bitex 12x148. It is a six pawl hub with TPC bearings. Available in the US at the bikehubstore.com, Universalcycles.com and Modernbike.com with multiple driver options.

Spank makes the

BOOST 148 HG E-PLUS​

For ebikes. Again cheaper than the boutique brands like Onyx and i9 but a good high quality hub.

I use standard Spank Hex on my Rise, Nukeptoof Horizon V2 uses same freehub as fitted one to my Hex hub as wanted XD hub
 
Has someone put the AR30 Wheels with the Deore Hubs on a scale?
Are they around 2kg or way heavier?
