Levo Gen 3 Specialized Gen 3 2022 Levo Megathread!

Without invasively taking the motor apart is the way to tell?
Not really, these changes have been done over the last 4 years. However, anything ending -200 after the motors part number, or any motor carrying the new Brose name "YMESG" (Yamaha Motor eBike Systems GmbH) will have the latest parts installed.

With the exact apk file of the old mission control app you can retive a serial number that you also might be able to see on stickers on the motor. Some people on pedelecforum.de tied some internal changes to those numbers. So maybe search the forums here and there with those serial numbers. But nothing much new after 2023 I believe.

Sorry for my late response. There have been a large number of changes since 2021 to 2026.
An internal seal has been added to the drive side of the crankshaft.
Planetary gear material has been changed.
Ring gear material change.
Small belt pulley material change.
Large belt pulley material change.
Drive belt change.
Large pulley bearing collar fitted.
Several software changes and updates.
Internal torque sensor pick-up change.
And probably a few more I can't think of right now.

We can still improve on this motor, we still add two more layers of sealing, tougher sprag clutch bearings and some exotic lubricants etc.
Does this mean Brose under Yamaha still updates this motor? Is it even used in newly released bikes anymore? From what I've gathered there was a lot of talk about running changes around 2023 when the reliability issues peaked and some people where on their tenth motor. But the changes I can remember where just a stronger belt and a software update that reduced critical power peaks and maybe seals. But after that time the motor fell out of fashion and the updates must have worked because I didn't read as much motor horror stories. But they also didn't subside completely.

My guess is that Brose/Specialized only did changes that made the motors tun long enough that they break when they are long out of warranty. Anythign else would have been to expensive or would have reduced the advertised power too much.
