Slow forum access/BT Internet

For fault finding, part of the issue is that it's not consistent. BT internet works great sometimes for a couple of threads... Then just stalls, run up the VPN and it's fine again. Stop the VPN 5.minutes later and it works again for a while.

For me anyway.

Been doing some investigating. Its an issue between BT Internet and Cloudflare (company that serves emtbforums)

For some BT/EE folk it goes slow or stalls at random, then sorts itself out but a VPN fixes it because it sends you a different way round the issue.

The specific issue is BT's connection to Cloudflare using IPv6. Loads of places reporting the same issue.

There is a fix workaround if you want to try it. And thats to turn off "IPv6" on your connection.

The proper fix is to disable IPv6 on your end, which forces a clean IPv4 route: on your router: if your hub lets you turn off IPv6, do it there and it covers every device.

That's more a workaround rather than a fix. Dropping back to 32bit IP addressing rather than 128bit.

Guess the BT 128bit system has a fault they haven't traced yet, so falling back to 32 bit uses different routers.

Still running slow
I found I also sometimes had slow response on "3" so must have a similar on and off problem with their cloud flare routing.

Also had the same problem on the gym website, but only on the page where you book classes, switch to VPN and works straight away.

Back in France now and everything works normally all the time.

Another day later and back to fast!

I will say I am with Zen for my Internet service and see no issues with speed so it may well be service provider-related.

I will say the changes to posting pics is a ball-ache with duplicates showing up and images being posted as webp-type content. Webp is not so much of an issue as you just change the Webp extension to jpg if you want to save any...

Another work around if you can't/don't want to change your access to ipv4 and don't want a full vpn install is to install cloudflare warp - this addresses all the issues with IPv6 routing and some other performance issues ..

Just goto : (yes, it's a weird name). Available for most platforms.

When it's installed and run, just select the private browsing option (no logon or account required).

It’s definitely a BT internet and EE issue. I’m on EE and am having it when I’m not using a VPN on my phone.

I’m trying to understand what it is.

What’s the issue you have with posting pics ?

In Hodges case, it sometimes double posts his images. This could just be down to the slow connection and him jumping ahead before it's caught up.

For example :

In this case we tried to edit his posts to remove the duplicate at the bottom by deleting it by clicking on the image within the post and clicking the bin icon. After the edit and save, the image re-appears as if by magic. The only way is to delete the image from the post completely at the bottom using the image links then re-upload the image.

Hi Rob ..It takes multiple tries to post even one pic ..Ive previously said that I get a " Parsing Failiure " message ..whatever that means ..
My last post on pic of the day took between 20-30 mins most of which was trying to upload the photo's ..very frustrating

Thanks for the info Hodge.

That’s really not expected behaviour. Are you on BT? Sorry if you’ve already told me this!

It's been consistently bad for me for weeks now, minutes to load pages if they load at all, Constantly having to refresh.

Also with BT, same result in different browsers.

Can you guys on BT / EE run this cloudflare test (who the forum uses)

AND

Post the cloudflare here, and copy paste the other test (you can delete your IP if you want to)

Not in UK at the moment (will be next week) but will stick mine in (problem free) just so you have additional comparison data :

With Cloudflare Warp Running :
