Shimano step SC E8000 display is there a way to get it to monitor cadence

The E8000 display can automatically display cadence (you don't need any extra sensor on the crank) - it's one of the "pages" that you scroll to, and then it should stay on that page. Just noting though I don't think the E8000 display is compatible with the EP8 motor if that's what you're thinking?

For the EP8 motor I think the SC-EM800 and E7000 displays are compatible - I assume they can also display cadence like the E8000 display, but never tried one ...

Can also display cadence on a Garmin Edge if you connect that.

The SC-E8000 display is only compatible with the E8000 motor.

The EP8 motor is only compatible with the SC-EM800 display and the SC-E7000 display (+ some 6000 & 5000 ones) - and yes it's oh so confusing that Shimano made the display names so similar!

The SC-E8000 is old now - and it uses a different data format for bluetooth & ANT connections compared to all the other ones - I think that's why they haven't made it compatible with EP8 and must be phasing it out.

I use a Garmin 830 with my SC Heckler with EP8 motor. No problem.

yes.
it's basically the same as the 830 but without touchscreen
