Ok, so on my way back from the trails, i had the monster on the roof rack, and it was torrential rain, got back home and took it for a blast down my street and noticed the thumb remote has now stopped working. i can still operate from the main buttons. Any suggestions, and any suggestions with regard to very wet rides what to look after or protect.
cheers

My remote also died. No water or anything like that. During couple of rides thru rock gardens it died and later start working again. This happened several times. Well, during ride few weeks ago it just died totally. I checked wiring, it’s okay. Warranty case is opened with LBS.
I think that remote isn’t just high quality part.

One time after washing the bike, it only worked up and not down. After I sprayed some wd40 on the contacts battery-motor, it started working well again.

Hmmm, I wouldn't use regular WD40 on electrical contacts because it leaves a residue (mostly kerosene). There are contact sprays specific for electrical components, many just using a volatile solent such as isopropanol. WD40 does make a SPECIALIST electrical contact cleaner that uses hexane as a volatile cleaner. Hexane is good solvent for greasy stuff, but it's flammable (!) and takes a few min to fully evaporate.

Would the WD40 Contact cleaner be ok to use regularly? Would it have a long term effect on the plastics in the plug socket etc? I guess I would need to be careful not to let overspray hit any areas lubed with grease.
