Pivot Amp’d Avinox

Sadly I had no proper off-road test ride, because there are still no demo bikes in stores near where I live due to low number of bikes which came in the first batch and are now sold out, next batch expected in a few months ... I did only a short test ride around a parking lot on a display bike with near empty battery 🤦‍♂️ My plan is to tune down the motor on a reasonable assist levels (little more than I currently have) to extend range, only using full power on very special occasions 🤣
Also, with my 250 miles I will make more than 30.000 ft of climbing, so I might be using 52T cog quite often 😅

Which superboost wheel did you order? I'm also interested into going full 29 ...

I demo'd a XL XT Di2 build that is exclusive to Pivot demo fleet. I own a Yeti MTe with full Push Suspension and a stock Lte with 120nm update. I had the unique ability to ride all 3 on the same trail system on the same dirt conditions.

The Amp'd was exactly what I expected. Handled and felt like my MTe with more power. Lighter, more playfull than my LTe.
Avinox M2s is quiet and smooth and natural feeling like my TQ HPR60 The Bosch CX5 is louder and not as natural feeling as the Avinox.

I have ridden Maxxis, Conti and Schwalbe radials. I like the feel of the radial casing. I think the Conti Kryptotals have better traction than the radials and wear longer than Maxxis. My perfect tire would be a radial Conti Kryptotal.

I posted this elsewhere but figured why not repost in this bike-specific thread. I really enjoy riding this bike. When someone asks me what it's like the first word is always "fun". I did make a few tweaks:
  1. Replaced stock Continentals with Schwalbe radials
  2. Zeb front fender
  3. Fidlock bottle
  4. Oneup pump and toolkit
  5. Race Face Atlas pedals
  6. Oneup fat grips with matching dropper post lever insert
  7. Freedom Coast horizontal AXS pod clamp
  8. Installed the Maven B1 upgrade kit.
  9. Installed Specialized Power Evo.
  10. Removed both Avinox control pods. I found myself never almost using them and I like a clean cockpit. I can access everything from the touch screen except walk mode which I've never needed.

bought Pivot Amped Gx model 1st upgrade was eddy current tires and with them bike weights 52lbs (size large )

I’m pretty sure I can get near 50lbs switching to carbon parts but mainly with carbon wheels.
Specifically Noble wheels with Berd spokes.

Next upgrade will be switching out oem dampener to MRP v2 lift on Fox 38 performance

How tall are you for the large?

Has anyone switched out that gawd awful stem/spacer set-up?

I'm more keen to Industry Nine stems and like to run a 31.8 diameter handlebar.

Would I be able to replace the purpose build spacers with normal round shaped? Does Pivot sell a kit similar to Orbea?

Amen to that

Does it have Maven A1 and not B1?I mean, B1 were officially released this year, thats kinda strange

According to this review from few months ago A1 brakes is continuing production “to support current OEM orders,” but SRAM plans “to ultimately shift production to B1”
So it is quite possible that first batch of bikes came with A1 and hopefully later deliveries will have B1 ...

Agreed. I suspect Sram is discounting their remaining A1 inventory before they switch over.

But this is a pretty minor thing. I love the A1 Mavens, best brakes I've ever used! IMO the hate is overblown, mostly from people with bad bleeds or just restating stuff they read online.

Yes, they are finicky to bleed but do it right and they are amazing. I never had any issues. I only installed the kit because I ride with my index finger pulling in the lever most of the way through the dead stroke, so I thought the easier breakaway would be nice. In practice it's not a big difference, I'll leave the kit installed but if I never installed it, I'd be fine too.

The Shuttle is my dad’s bike. He finds it awesome but he complains about lack of modulation of Maven brakes. Do you think installing the b1 kit would improve that?

Yes. Or if it’s just modulation preference, try some MTX Red pads. Cheaper and easier.

thanks, happy to read this about the comparison as it is what i was putting my money down for!! A few more days till one here...

has anyone changed the rear shock yet ? thinking an Intend Hover

Went from “Grip dampener” to MRP V2 lift dampener huge upgrade. Oem couldn’t keep up.
As for the rear was going to switch to “X2” but “Fluid Focus” recommended to valve “Float x” which is what I will do.

Do I even want to know what that new Pivot will cost?

I was certain I was going to get a new Amflow, but then Pivot went a fukced it all up with that new rig.

I have never ridden, let alone owned, an e-bike, but I'm prepared to spend whatever it takes to get the one I'll be proud to throw my leg over for the next several years...

I prioritize battery size/range first and foremost, then looks (I admit it), I just assume both are going to ride amazing... so I can't wait to see the new Avinox offerings. Come on April 9th!!!!
Well .. You can have two Amflows - or one Pivot ..if that answers your question on cost
:)

Looking forward to your thoughts.
1 ride so far, didnt think I'd like it as much as I did!

Proper agile, excellent suspension, lightweight for Avinox with 800wh, but the weight distribution seems excellent. I recon they got the battery placement low down on this bike improving the centre of gravity.

Going for a much longer ride tomorrow in Surrey HIlls with it.

Interesting. That 'hockey stick' at the bottom, I presume for battery removal, might notably improve weight distribution.

I feel like for all of the excitement about the slender silhouette of the 800wh Avinox batteries, precious little content mentions the known negative effects of having the battery mounted that high and forward.

Just checked. They do indeed get the battery very low. I took the display off and looked inside. On most 800wh Avinox bikes, the battery is screwed in from under the screen (you need to take the screen out to get to the top battery screw).

On this bike, the top battery screw is actuall on the underside of the downtube. It means they've got the battery weight much further down than usual (compared to my other Avinox XL bikes at least).

I'm a month in on the same color and build, and I like it more each time I ride it. The rear is a bit loose which I enjoy and makes the bike feel fun and light in the corners.

I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on tires. I read 2 or 3 reviews that flatted the stock Conti's. I went with radials with gravity casings since I already had them sitting around but might give the stock tires a chance once they wear out.

Hey Rob

When you stop enjoying yourself on that AMPD can you give me a quick rundown between this and the sc vala. I know the vala only has the 600 battery but would be interested to hear how they compare ride wise. I would be turning the power down on both to match my wife’s rail (without the software upgrades) so I don’t need to worry about the peak power numbers. The rail also only has the 625wh battery so really from a range point of view either would be ok.

I’ll jump in about

I’ll just say I had Kryptotal Enduro casing with Soft (not Super Soft) compound and I thought the grip was horrible here in the desert. What gets me is they’re pretty popular here. To me it’s weird. I think people are seduced by the wear being so long. I just want maximum grip.
