Pic of the Day

Great to get up to the Yorksire dales this weekend, -3 to start the day , bit icy in places , but stunning blue sky overhead , made it a perfect day . First ride out with my new range extender , makes a huge difference, plus don’t even know it’s there .

Wow, beautiful area and beautiful bike. The podium complements the bike visually excellently. Are you satisfied with the fork?

I’ve barely been in the desert for more than a year, but it didn’t take me long to learn Cholla cactus are the worst.
And they like to grow close to trail obstacles that make you swerve into them.

Pro tip: carry a comb with you in case you become one with the teddy bear cholla. It breaks off the main plant and “sticks” to you. You can use the comb to remove the spike ball.

Oh I bought a 5-pack of combs a while ago! Probably more essential than carrying a chain tool! There’s even one in my golf bag.

Been icing and resting the twisted knee enough to get a good look at the hit the bike took. Got a good impact near the battery door. Not really too concerned about it causing a failure; so I have to look at it as a battle scar. Threw in a picture from my balcony in Scottsdale that shows the unfamiliar a different look at Arizona.

I don’t think you’ll have any structural problems with that. The only way to keep them pristine is to not ride them and that ain’t happening.

That’s a fantastic view you have. While you’re convalescing, head over to Volanti restaurant at the airport and have dinner and a cocktail. I recommend their pork chop. Heal up!

25yrs ago when I came to Aus, Deer were non-existent. About 5yrs ago, they started to appear rarely, last couple of years their population has exploded.
Kangaroos and Emus crunch through the bush like a bulldozer, these Deer tip toe through the undergrowth so stealthily that unless you see them, they're gone without a sound.
They usually run at the sight of a human but this juvenile stopped for a nosy when I was out on a ride today, as soon as I took the picture, it turned, took a few steps and jumped the fence.

Its very rare that I dont see a deer ( Roe) when Im riding in my local forest ( Kielder, NW Northumberland).
The population is so dense that there has been talk of introducing Lynx back into the forest to quell the number but so far there has been major opposition from farmers ( big sheep county ) who fear a loss of stock ..

They cull the deer now in Scotland 1 to 2 hundred thousand a year

Deer populations can get out of hand very quickly without a respective predator population. In the US, hunters take approximately 6 million per year with the automobile claiming an additional 1.5 million per year and the population continues to rise. The abundance of crops in the mid-west and northeastern states provide an readily available food source. They used to fear humans but now they're perfectly comfortable around urban environments these days. Statistically speaking, deer kill more people in the US than any other animal (car accidents).

In the early 1990s in Ringwood NJ a deer jumped off a small cliff and landed on my car's hood and passenger side fender. Really messed my car up at the time. I'll go to my grave professing the deer hit me and not the other way around.

For arguements sake we will say the year was 2015 ( it was on or around that time ) a Deer ran out from a small copse on the military road which sits atop of Hadrians ( Roman)Wall did some damage to the front of my car but spun on the road and when I looked in my rearview mirror it seemed to still be alive ..both myself and my Dad quickly dashed up the road to end its suffering but it had died in the short time it took us to get there ..
My dad whos a bit of a bugger wanted to throw it in the back of the car ..as he loves venison but I didnt fancy the mess ..it had done enough damage to the front bumper without having a valet job as well..
Besides which its illegal to do so ..but by a stange twist in the law if the driver of the next car behind wanted to take it ..that would be ok ..
Weird ..

Same here, they show up almost every time I ride. The downside is that at the same time the prevalence of ticks is also increasing.
Both could be reduced.

I swear that deer are some of the dumbest animals on earth. I saw one bolt out of a field and run head-first into the passenger door of a car I was following. I guess it’s lucky they’re dumb, imagine how many there’d be if they had a lick of intelligence.

They'd be terrifying if they had the capacity for rational or irrational thought.

Yes I sometimes come across them running in same direction as me . We have deer fences to keep them out of areas. They run in front of you and run in to fence to try to get through. I usually stop . Sheep are even thicker they run for a mile on the same road in front of you and no fences . They probably laugh at me lifting a Ebike over a 10 foot high fence as well.

Incidentally, there's four lads with Exposures on full beam behind me lighting that big yellow whatever it is.

Yup, sheep are truly thick. As you say they will run in front of you along the road and keep going even when there are no fences. Late one night I was driving along road past Loch Lubnaig towards Callendar, this feckin sheep ran for a good distance in front of me even though the road was wide enough for it to run off to side. I got so pissed off I got out of the car and chased the bastard till I caught it and kicked it's bahooky as hard as I could.
My mate had a theory that because cars slow down or stop for them, they don't see them as a direct threat, the ones that get killed by cars aren't going to convey the info to their mates. So my kicking that bastard off the road might have changed that ones perception.;)

I was one of the first to herd sheep with a drone in NZ. 2017 proof of concept. Had those Kiwis pasted to my screen. What a hoot !
