Doesn’t have to be challenging. The older you get, it’s just great to be out there. The day got away from me today. Woke up late, and every single thing I did took longer or went wrong, requiring yet more time to sort it out. Decided not to put the bike on the car, but to ride locally instead. That should catch me up. It is a route I first did twenty years ago when I got my first mtb. Actually, it wasn't an mtb, I just thought it was. It was actually a cruiser bike. Bloody great heavy thing (19.5kg), but hey, it had wide tyres (26x 1.95), 3x7 gears, and 50mm of front suspension!!!!! I absolutely loved that bike. One morning I just went out on the bike, without a map, and just followed my nose. The route I found all those years ago is the one I did this morning.

That was him pulling over for me. He had been doing the side of the Hawthorne hedge and he had been completely blocking the way. I just had to wait. While I was waiting, I spotted two Hawthorne spikes in my front tyre. By the time I had got them out and got my camera ready, he had pulled over.

Which way now? There are actually six signs there, the last one is another Viking Way hidden by the one you can see. I took the uphill stony one (Viking Way).

Right on top of the hill, this monstrosity can be seen for miles and miles. If you estimate the door at the base as 2m tall, then you can begin to assess how tall the structure is.

This is a brick bridge built in 1815 over the River Witham. It is just outside the village of Marston in the UK. It is no longer used for vehicles. You can see why if you zoom in on to the parapet. Those beautiful Willow trees on the edge of the Witham are in some lucky person's garden.
Not a challenging ride in any way, but very enjoyable in the lovely weather.
Woe manAnother handy present would be a man -size box of tissues?

You can never win sometimes. We get rain forecast so try to organise a Pacraft trip . It's either too big when we can all go or too dry. Also had an amazing summer.
Hopefully this Winter/Spring won't be like 2023/2024 when February 2024 was the wettest since 1836 for us (Southern England). It was a freaking mud bath.
