I regularly get up around the 50km/h mark on a gravel road at my local bike park/trail centre where there's a "big dipper" section where if you crank hard enough in turbo, you can almost get up the other side without changing down a gear or 10. It's steep but wide and well packed as it's a forestry road. When descending on nice and smooth tarmac with a long straight road ahead, (ie as easy as it could be), I start to brake as I approach 30mph (48kph). Never quite reached it yet! The thought of coming off and hitting tarmac at that speed (shudder), it would be like landing on a belt sander!![]()
Heard the van stopped to take a phone call . Head down on tri bars may look cool but ????Maybe it was on bike rack on tow ball?![]()
Are you sure you didn't receive a brain injury too?..................
I also used to road race when I was a kid - came off on tarmack at around 80km/h and did a good effort of grating my face on the road. Thankfully was young enough to heal properly, so I'm still a devastatingly handsome specimen today in my mid-fifties.

That's Drummond not me . Some weight that saw. You’re holding the correct end…on your way to being fully qualified.![]()
The faller/trainer in me starts to emerge but I’ll reserve my opinion on the condition of the stump. The important thing is that the tree is down …safely. That's Drummond not me . Some weight that saw.
I asked lad so he took a lot of stuff off side nearest castle then attached rope or something on other side and tied to some vehicle. They had a cherry picker as well. Stump rotten at base I'm thinking it was cut further up initially as there are a few slices maybe a foot thick lying about. I could be totally wrong though. Won't be a cheap job that's for sure. The faller/trainer in me starts to emerge but I’ll reserve my opinion on the condition of the stump. The important thing is that the tree is down …safely.
The saw looks to be a Stihl 066 size with a 36” bar. Kinda long in my opinion for this tree …but that’s ok.
I used 3 different size motors. 084, 066, and a 032. My bars were 32”, 36”, and 42”. You definitely started to feel the weight of an 084 Stihl with a 42” bar after 6 hours of work.
I rarely fell a deciduous tree. Very dangerous and sometimes unpredictable. Coniferous trees on northern Vancouver Island. Big’n’Tall but very unforgiving.
Yeah, you’re probably right. Those tree trimmers take the tree down piece by piece with a cherry picker. Still dangerous though. Looked like the worker had decent PPE.I asked lad so he took a lot of stuff off side nearest castle then attached rope or something on other side and tied to some vehicle. I only worked in woods in winter what I call a big tree be small to you. Yes we had a lad failed the test kept cutting the hinge off . Yes lot of cowboys at it in our area when they get enough for drink you never seen them till they are skint.Yeah, you’re probably right. I really need to stop watching the falling videos on YouTube. My heart starts racing just before the tree crashes through the house. Some are funny and some bring back memories..
I never felled trees close to a structure or power lines. I’ve been asked numerous times to clear trees away from structures. I just say no…hire an expert with the right knowledge, tools, and insurance.
Woh steady on man for Petes sake.
That toothpick or cigarette is on the wrong side of his mouth …what an amateur! The problem with those saws made in UK is the starter on the left side. Found a way starting right handed!
