I was out locally yesterday, just making sure that my shifting problems were truly behind me (tick).
Right next to where the Viking Way crosses the River Witham, I saw a tree that was so blindingly white that I just had to take a photo.

As I approached it I assumed that it was a Blackthorn, which also can display in almost as stunningly white, but they are mostly hedges, not a tree like this one. It turned out to be a white cherry tree, the bark was unmistakeable. I'll be back later this year to see what I can harvest. I had no idea that cherry trees can blossom in any other colour than pink (dark pink, light pink and every shade between, but not white!)
The river is in amongst the green trees in the background. Once I'd crossed the bridge to the right, I saw dozens of white bushes, all forming a hedge. Now they
were blackthorn!
