Pic of the Day

My office was at the back of a chopper hangar, so I became pals with the guys. I was forever hopping on for free rides & the boys kindly gave my little girl a freebie burn around the place for her birthday. He wanted to let her fly it for a bit but her feet didn't reach the pedals. I never told her mum until she landed.

Great experience 👍

An absolutely glorious day out in the Cheviot Hills today with me marra @The Hodge. I’ll just post a couple of pics and leave the write up to the Quillsmith and giant of the written word Neil to complete the ride description 🤣IMG_9646.jpegIMG_9653.jpegIMG_9664.jpeg
Stunning weather, fab ride and a pint to finish the day off proper like.

I was out locally yesterday, just making sure that my shifting problems were truly behind me (tick).
Right next to where the Viking Way crosses the River Witham, I saw a tree that was so blindingly white that I just had to take a photo.
White cherry tree.jpg

As I approached it I assumed that it was a Blackthorn, which also can display in almost as stunningly white, but they are mostly hedges, not a tree like this one. It turned out to be a white cherry tree, the bark was unmistakeable. I'll be back later this year to see what I can harvest. I had no idea that cherry trees can blossom in any other colour than pink (dark pink, light pink and every shade between, but not white!)
The river is in amongst the green trees in the background. Once I'd crossed the bridge to the right, I saw dozens of white bushes, all forming a hedge. Now they were blackthorn!

The estate I used to live on every house was planted with a cherry tree alternate pink & white ..they are not that uncommon ..
You need to get out more Steve 😂

There were no trees anywhere near any of the estates that I used to live on. If I wanted to see trees, I had to walk to the nearest park. I started off in a fairly big city, grimy smoke-blackened Bradford. Having lost much of its industry and pretty much all of its woollen mills, Bradford is no longer grimy nor smoke blackened. But I moved out before all that happened and they had sand-blasted the city back to its original and beautiful honey coloured Millstone Grit. Peterborough was where I moved to for 8 years. I thought it was beautiful and well laid out with trees and lakes everywhere. I can't recall a white cherry, but there were plenty of Magnolia trees. The population went from 83000 to 130,000 while I was there and it is no longer so beautiful 40 years later. I now live in a small Lincolnshire village with loads of pink cherry trees, along with apple, almond, walnut, plum, elder and all the other usual trees that you see. But no white cherry.

Errr..you wot son ..are you calling me a giant duck ?
Cheviot ride take 2 ..aka ..The things we do for a free pair of socks ..
Not yet fully recovered from my tumble in Slaley Forest..the whiff of a freebie from DFYRS for a pic of their recently acquired Deathray sunglasses and use of the free stickers sent with them was enough to get me off my lardy arse ..that and the fact that it was the most perfect day to ride in our favourite Northumbrian Hills ...this particular loop containing some of the best riding both up & down in the area .
My pics first ..featuring Wayne ..
Half way up the first major climb on the b/way from Rowhope to Rusells Cairn on Windy Gyle

On the Border Ridge ..left side of the fence England right side Scotland ..lots of free range haggis spotted running around ..
1000013260.jpg
1000013262.jpg

The off camber narrow track between Windy Gyle & The Street ..falling off to the left not really a good option
1000013264.jpg
1000013263.jpg

The drop off Middle Hill
1000013270.jpg

Wayne's pics featuring said Deathray Glasses ..very comfortable, adjustable ( nose piece ) and quality lense(s) 👌 1000013278.jpg 1000013277.jpg
The superb drop off Black Braes ..as fast as you dare go ..
1000013294.jpg
1000013299.jpg

Cracker of a day ..with 19 miles covered and approx 2500ft* ascent ..which seems like a whole lot more ..cheers Wayne 👍🏻
* slight variation in the stats between Wayne's on Strava & mine on Outdooractive apps..

Today on the route I had to 🦆.

Mild 25km ride, got to try the new helmet. After several perfect warm Spring days in the week when I was working, as per Sod's law today the temperature has halved and there's a strong cold wind (no, not a South-Westerly ;) ). At least it stayed dry and in fairness not bad for the time of year.

Brilliant ride yesterday Bridge of Orchy to Taynuilt then train to Tyndrum then West Highland Way back to car at Bridge of Orchÿ . Impressed with old battery , 39 miles 3000ft and still 26 percent left in battery. Big search for missing walker 10 vehicles chopper etc stopped a few times and asked if I had seen anyone , his Ebike is still chained up at bottom of hill . Commando Memorial bonus pic.

Epic day at kielder yesterday weather was special If a little chilly int morning
Got to ride the new trails that’s basically finished and ready to open in May
Had a bit craic with the trail builders and forestry that were working there
Got permission to ride them
Nearly wiped oot some melt coming UP the descent and ended up going down the double black section
Which is absolute quality tbh and pretty spicey for kielder
New trails are great but these aren’t adaptive like they opened last year

Also rode on the new section after skydive that opened a short while ago
Continuation of the adaptive trails that there building

Ssshh..you're supposed to keep it quiet ..I was there on Saturday ( pics further up page )
Got an invite for a social ride from Alex Mac. on 3rd May and also for the opening on the 6th .but we will be heading up to Ballater on the 4th ..so not risking anything prior ..
Nice write up apart from letting the world know 👌
