I’m sure they get a large variety of creatures, but the bears do the most damage to the now collapsed 6’ high fence which borders the “green space”. Creatures now wander in through the opening …day and night.

It’s interesting to watch bear cubs frolicking in the shallow pond while moma sits and watches. On a few occasions we were barricaded inside the house, behind glass doors and windows, but the critter-cam catches everything 24/7.

My back yard. And the trail I use every day to get to the mountain.

Black bear, said to run away if you shout at them.
I don’t know what the secret would be?
There’s a number of factors. Shouting could help, walk in groups, a dog companion, avoidance, waving a bag or branch, awareness, behaving like a predator or hunter, warning noise's (I ride with a jingle bell on my bar), etc.

Not the biggest guy I’ve encountered …but he was on a mission.

I’ve had a few face-to-face encounters during trail maintenance (surprise 😳) and had my backpack and iPhone stolen by a bear.. Took a few hours to find.

At times they can be territorial (breeding season) and definitely give way for mama and cubs.(had a fake charge once). But they wander through our neighborhood all the time in search of food. It’s the Cougars I worry about.

Cougars! Feck, I'd be gone!

I think they can sense whether you’re predator or prey. A few interesting videos available. But they are stealthy 🥷, and dangerous for small pets and children. Warnings are posted in our neighborhood when there is a sighting. We escort the children to school and small pets need constant supervision.

Unfortunately a sighting will cause the Conservation Officer's to take action. Cougar Hounds are dispatched. Treed, tranquillized and relocated.

Edit; I just can’t get the picture out of my head of a cougar holding two puppies under a blanket …someone please post again!!!!

I added a marine horn alongside the bear bells and apart from being deaf for an hour after blasting -

it has moved the lingering black bear along, its the grizzly bears that are pretty unpredictable in my experience - but I would still rather deal with bears than the creepy crawlies of our southern destinations . . .

Well as we fly out to the Cook Islands on Sunday for a month away from our deep freeze I feel somewhat guilty finding an excuse not to take up our Aussi friends offer for a visit to Australia but partly their fault sharing pics of what crawls through their yard

Not much sympathy if your away to Cook Islands , I'm afraid even less if it's for a month . Enjoy your selves.

Out on the Marin with the Bafang BBS01 Motor. And OMG. Do I miss my Merida. It's like I've gone back 2 years in ability. Torque sensors are so important when you are climbing.

And th motor hangs so far down. Just kept getting hooked up in the really technical sections. So used to being able to roll off anything. And when climbing. I so miss being able to stamp on the pedals and get that front wheel up and over anything, then bunny hop the rear up.

Literally night and day difference. Anyway. Hopefully the Amflow isn't too far away.

Some pics.

One of the guys I ride with showed this ^^^ photo to his grand-daughter and she came up with this "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" design for a bike. I told him to keep an eye on that kid ......... :ROFLMAO:

With overnight rain, all my riding mates decided it was too wet to ride. It was a little wet on the trail in places. But the bike didn't get too muddy. Just a little where the chainstay meets the bottom bracket.

My only thought was the blokes in the UK would have a huge belly laugh over how soft they were being. ;)

Overall I enjoyed the ride. Just wish it was on a better EMTB.

Re bears I heard that some people put a anti-bear tag on the stem of their bikes! 😎

Being new to tubeless, I was not expecting to be burping and farting so much…View attachment 154618

You need to adjust valve position and more glitter!

Sunday ride around the Glasshouse Mt's, small step off and a crash and burn trying to clean that uphill. Best part was, I've had a creak in my neck for about 3 weeks, even been to the chiropractor at great expense. All I need was a crash down the hill and no more neck problems, great when it work like that. :ROFLMAO:
